Brazilian Jazz Submersion.......2000-10-26
The compilation is a collection of some top-notch Brazilian jazz tracks that have been released in the past 6 years, including a strong track from Bossanostra and Bruna Lopez. All the tracks are on the downtempo chill-out side of jazz, and have a genuine Brazilian feel. That is to say, they don't just sound like electronic tracks with samples of Brazilian jazz. The lineup features Irma artists, but not exclusively. Sister Bossa features solid tracks from DJ Rodriguez, Jazzedelic, Montefiori Cocktail, Balanco, LTJ Experience, Fez Combo, Hammond Express and Quintetto X.
There is hardly a letdown on this compilation. All the tracks have a soothing effect and recall the feeling of being on a cruise in the summer time around the tip of Manhattan or Rio de Janeiro as the sun is setting. Gold and crimson warmth enveloping the cruise and as a catchy bossa beat and siren-like vocals serenade you. This is quality chill-out music that will keep us electronic junkies grounded with nature. I remember when world music used to be chanting monks and pygmies. Now, it includes quality jazz from other cultures.
So, if you didn't know, now you do. Keep your eyes out for Irma! They have some really quality stuff for the electro-jazz fan coming out, as well as, in their back catalogue. They've got a lot of music from around the world to sink your ears into. I now gladly accept Sister Bossa into my collection of CDs, along with another Irma gem, Afrodesia: The Tribal Sound Of Irma.
