better than I thought.......2007-07-07
After listening to the Three Cheers singles, I decided that MCR are amazing from going from Three Cheers to The Black Parade. I thought the singles were mediocre at best, and definitely emo. But then I listened to the rest of the album and I was plesantly surprised. Though the entire album is pop-rock, and yes, still a bit emo, it really isn't a bad thing. In the context of the album, the singles seem less emo and more mainstream, straight-up rock. As a guitar player, I can respect Ray's playing a lot. In a mainstream music industry where guitar solos are as rare as fat girls (more of both of these things would make me endlessly happy), hearing a good solo now and again is really refreshing and uplifting.
The highlights for me are "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" which at first really just made me cringe at the melodrama. But that comes with the territory with this band. Also the other two singles ("Helena" and "Ghost of You"), plus my favorite, "Cemetary Drive." The rest of the songs are entertaining, and there isn't one that I don't like. While some are forgettable and they all seem to run together after only a few listens, if you give the CD a chance you'll begin to distinguish between songs.
Though it's not nearly as good as The Black Parade, Three Cheers is a good solid CD. Don't expect miracles, but it's better than what most rock-snobs give it credit for. And that's coming from a fellow rock-snob.

If the comics on Saturday Night Live ever wanted to spoof the current line of mascara-painted '80s revivalists such as the Killers and Bravery, it's unlikely their efforts would be nearly as successful as She Wants Revenge. It's not that the Los Angeles duo made up of party DJ Adam Bravin and former De La Soul copycat Justin Warfield means for its self-titled debut to be funny. But the group's one-note impression of dark new wave acts like Joy Division, The Cure and Bauhaus is just so blatant--from the ominous bass-lines and fawning band name (Peter Hook's New Order side project was called Revenge) to song titles such as "Tear You Apart" (Ian Curtis fans would be right to notice the similarities to their beloved "Love Will Tear Us Apart") and Goth 101 lyrics ("Take your hand, and smack me in the mouth, my love") -- it's hard not to laugh. --Aidin VaziriAlbum Description
Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin (aka DJ Adam 12) met as kids in the San Fernando Valley in 1986. Growing up listening to everything from Run DMC and Public Enemy to The Cure, Prince and Depeche Mode, they would each develop as musicians, djs and producers, pursuing critically acclaimed careers, each in their own right. They assembled a live band to accompany them, and after only 3 mind-blowing hometown shows, set out on two legs of the North American Bloc Party tour. Since then they have played in the UK, and have begun to amass a sizeable local following in Los Angeles, opening for such acts as The Raveonettes, Moving Units, The Kills, Bloc Party, and OK Go.Customer Reviews:

STOP bickering.......2007-06-26
Stop and shut up. You don't need to come rushing to a SWR CD to write bad reviews just because someone said it was better than your favorite band. If you disagree, disagree and that's enough.
I like SWR a LOT. I think all of the bands that "sound similar" are good, it's just that SWR is exactly the style of that type of music that I like.
They have a good sound, I like it. Unfortunately, all of their songs have pretty much the same sound- but AGAIN- I still like it.
But enough of the 'She wants revenge copied ____ because ___.'.
No one gives a hoot!
Lots of bands sound like other bands. And though there are some similarities, there are some HUGE differences.
Example being Radiohead vs. Muse.. they had like one similar song and have some similarities with the voice, but their styles of music are TOTALLY different.
C'mon. Leave SWR alone. It's like two older guys who like writing and music and finally decided to make a band. They're not the best, they're not the worst. It's a matter of opinion. You like it or you don't.. just like any other band.
But one thing you can't deny is the fact that the lyrics in She Wants Revenge music are very, very good. There's always an interesting story or something. That's the main part. The music accompanies it well. It's incredibly catchy at times.
Well, their new album is coming out this fall. Hopefully it will be better.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!

Allison and Catherine Pierce are from Alabama, they're sisters, they're rather attractive, one of them is supposedly (as of this writing) dating someone from the Strokes, and as kids they were both "accomplished" ballerinas. Together they make some pretty fine, artsy pop with provocative lyrics vaguely in the vein of Regina Spektor. Thirteen Tales is the first album the duo has made with their own say-so; their earlier records were pleasant if innocuous, slicked-up folk. There's a dramatic flair to their country-inflected orchestral New Wave folk-pop. With its doubled-up and contemporary-sounding pop vocal style, the macabre "Secrets" sounds like the soundtrack to a Tim Burton movie with words written by Dame Darcy, as sung by half the members of the Pussycat Dolls. If anything, they're a little too ambitious on their third album. With each track assigned its own stylistic variation (however slight), the album is scattered as a whole. But this is definitely a super entertaining duo, one to watch out for. --Mike McGonigalCustomer Reviews:

Fifteen years of recording and alt-country's smartest smartass has never released a live album or a greatest-hits collection (the odds 'n' sods Very Best Of doesn't count). This two-disc set just about settles the score. On disc one, a good slice of Fulks's best songs gets the full roots-rock-weirdo treatment with his longtime road band: the closing triad "Rock Bottom, Pop. 1," "Cigarette State," and "Let's Kills Saturday Night" shows Fulks on top of his skewed country-rock game. On stage, he may distort and twist lines like a psycho-hillbilly jazz singer, but he'll never sing a song the same way twice. On the superior second disc, however, he plays acoustic, showing just how much he learned as a bluegrasser and just home much he's willing to chop and screw those lessons. His deathless folk homage, "In Bristol Town One Bright Day," is transformed into a fractured guitar epic, and his take on Cher's "Believe" (complete with hiccups to mimic the diva's robotic pitch-shifting) is as passionate as it is hilarious. Fulks claims he hates live albums: they're just rip-offs, with weaker versions of old songs, he says. So he adds a good number of unreleased covers and new original songs: "The Bluebirds Are Singing for Me," "On a Real Good Day," and "That's a Good Enough Reason" are especially fine. Yet if you're looking for an accurate document of what a Fulks show is like, you won't find it here. Jokes, banter, and spontaneous crowd interaction are minimized--with the notable exception of an extended intro to "I Like Being Left Alone," a sweet and sour comedy, and the best of his new tunes--and most tracks fade down over applause. As a record maker, Fulks's heart really wasn't into releasing a live set; as a performer, though, his heart, even at its most sarcastic, is never in doubt. One listen to the closing hootenanny stomp (featuring Kelly Hogan on harmonies) of the Carter Family's "Away On the Old Saint Sabbath" is all the evidence you need. --Roy KastenCustomer Reviews:

There is plenty of fun, energy, good pickin', and a few new gems. Surely worth owning, but not a good starting place. Get this to complete your collection, but first be sure to hear Georgia Hard, South Mouth, 13 Hillbilly Giants, Let's Kill Saturday Night, Couples in Trouble, and The Very Best Of. Fulks has never made a bad record, and this one keeps up his winning streak. Still, I cannot wait for him to get back into the studio.

During the second half of the 1960s, before he became a ubiquitous TV star and commercial pitchman, Bill Cosby was America's most popular--and influential--standup comic. Unlike the generation of Borscht-Belt funnymen that preceded him, Cosby didn't tell jokes, per se. Instead, he delivered colorful, tightly structured tales drawn from his experiences as a child and a parent, adopting a multitude of voices to portray the colorful array of characters who populated the Philadelphia neighborhood in which he grew up. Cosby's 1967 album Revenge is awash in bittersweet, hilarious accounts of snowball fights, scary monster movies, and youthful one-upsmanship. --Scott SchinderCustomer Reviews:

For his third album, John Prine returned to the fuller sound of his landmark debut while venturing into increasingly cryptic lyrical terrain. Songs such as "Mexican Home," "Accident (Things Could Be Worse)," and "Blue Umbrella" are open-to-interpretation explorations that reveal the songsmith's intrepid reflections; they're also among the 12-song set's best numbers. "Dear Abby" is a comical novelty number while "Christmas in Prison" is a doleful in-the-clink carol. The openhearted "A Good Time" slipped into the shadows after Sweet Revenge (like Prine's other Atlantic albums) failed to hit commercial paydirt, but it's as touching as anything Prine has penned. This outing isn't as musically distinctive as Prine's other albums from his early period, but as collections of songs go, it's first-rate. --Steven StolderCustomer Reviews:

Chamillionaire gets all the people in the clubs to come out on the floor, with the big bangers like 'ridin' and 'turn it up', he gives million dollar beats but with some meaningful lyrics, this guy isen't about how many b*tchs he can get in one night, he's about showing the people that rap means more than thugs with baggy pants and not everyone who has big chains and tall tees are criminals. But don't think that because this guys diffrent, it dosent make him bad. All of his tracks give some great thumps and some of the most ground breaking chain of ryhmes I've ever heard. He's got all of the dirty south's top tier names, he's got southern legend Scarface, the king of underground Krayzie Bone, with Lil Flip, B Bun, Killer Mike, Lil Wayne, even his brother Rasaq.
Basically, it comes to this, Sound of Revenge is one of the best albums out on market, he's giving the people what they want, and its good. Real good.(Sophmore album 'Ultimate Victory' comes out July 6)

Album Description
2007 release from this duo of powerful Metal vocalists, the sequel to their 2005 album The Battle. Russell Allen is the singer of the American Progressive Metal band Symphony X,. Highly rated ex-Masterplan vocalist Jorn Lande has a vocal capability that is world class, distinctive, rich and spanning a large range. As on The Battle, the songs were written by guitar sensation Magnus Karlsson (Startbreaker, Lal Tribe), Heavier and with a tighter production, thanks to the involvement of Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Angra, Place Vendome) at the mix, this album will excite the many fans who loved the first chapter and everyone who declares themselves fan of quality Hard Rock or Metal. Frontiers Records. 2007.Album Details
Second Chapter of the Mega Alliance Between Jorn Lande (Ex-masterplan) and Russell Allen (Symphony X). Songs Written by Magnuss Karlsson (Starbreaker, Las Tribe) and Production by Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Angra).Customer Reviews:
Revenge sweet revenge - Hard Rock Strikes Back.......2007-06-22
Russell Allen is the singer of prog metal Symphony X besides being main singer for Arjen Lucassen's Star One project. Jorn Lande sang with Malmsteen, ARK, Company of Snakes (Whitesnake tribute), Masterplan and a dozen others. Where Allen adds an almost bluesy feeling and roundness, Lande comes with agression and that Robert Plant's "rudeness". Together they duet like I have never seen before. And you see tons of catchy vocals, cheesy choruses, hooky guitar riffs and inspired solos (courtesy of the great Magnus Karlson), all with that melodic hard rock positive optimistic attitude. The Revenge flows naturally from one song to another and there is not one of them unworthy of being a smash hit. If it were the 80's, The Revenge would figure on the world's charts for weeks, earn a platinum album, MTV would be filled with its videoclips, the singers would show up at David Letterman and so on.
THE REVENGE is the mindblower hard rock opener with one of the catchiest singalong chorus I've ever seen. OBSESSED alternates melodic guitars and somewhat agressive vocals. VICTORY has a humalong ultramelodic guitar line and a duet chorus that will catch you straight through the heart. MASTER OF SORROW is one of the best ballads in rock's history, amazing feeling and power. WILL YOU FOLLOW mixes some poppy punk with modern In Flames and the result is very good. JUST A DREAM could be an MTV Hit with it's Sammy Hagar's Van Halen inspired melody. HER SPELL deals in melodic metal territory with those keyboard fast lines, crescendo bridges and raise-your-fists chorus. GONE TOO FAR is pratically a Dream Theater wonderful slow ballad leading to one of the best mindblower, singalong cheesy chorus I've ever seen. WAKE UP CALL adds some complexity, changing pace, heaviness and mood quite often, and its chorus could be soundtrack to any Rocky Balboa's movie. UNDER THE WAVES also changes its mood often, changing from Dream Theater ballad to modern In Flames inspired guitars passing through an easy chorus that will get you singing in no time. WHO CAN YOU TRUST reminds me of Lande's ex-band Masterplan, heavier and less "optimistic". And WHEN TIME DOESNT HEAL is the finishing acoustic-power ballad, that perfect psicological support for any broken heart, lots of feeling.
Buy it and taste The Revenge. You will want to repeat it on and on and on...
Blow Your Mind!!.......2007-05-25
Lightning strikes twice.......2007-05-20
The Revenge brings both powerhouse vocalists back together for another dozen high quality melodic metal songs, again courtesy of Magnus Karlsson. Beyond providing some very excellent guitar work on this album, Karlsson once again proves why he is considered one of the best songwriters/producers in the melodic metal genre. If anyone is better than Karlsson, it would have to be Pink Cream 69's Dennis Ward, who is also on board mixing the Revenge. With such a stellar team in place, expectations for the Revenge are understandably high.
Fortunately, the Revenge lives up to those expectations. Both singers have been busy lately (Allen with the long awaited Symphony X album Paradise Lost and Lande with a pair of compilations), but their performances here are as solid as ever. Each vocalist has a unique and dynamic style, and hearing them perform together is a vocalist fan's dream come true. Fortunately close to half of the songs on the Revenge feature both singers. Karlsson's songs range from harder-edged melodic rock to progressive metal, and totally capitalize on each singer's capabilities. Ward and Karlsson's production skills are also showcased to great effect, as the Revenge has a very crisp and clean overall sound. All in all, the Revenge is a first rate melodic metal album, and a more than worthy successor to the Battle.
The Revenge is another must-have melodic metal fan, and is an early contender for album of the year. If you're a fan of Russell Allen, buy this album. If you're a fan of Jorn Lande, buy this album. If you enjoy top quality melodic metal bands like Pretty Maids, Last Tribe, TNT, Pink Cream 69, Starbreaker, and Sunstorm, you absolutely must buy this album.
PS - I'd love to see this idea expanded a bit to include vocalists like DC Cooper, David Readman, Tony Harnell, etc. in some sort of rotating friendly competition among the genre's best singers.

For Thy Pleasure: Yeap, It is Very Enjoyable .......2006-10-25
Buying the cd gave me a lot of joyful time. All the music in the cd were excellent. I believe there are a lot of musicians who are techically perfect but only a few of them can give me this kind of pleasure. All the music are beautiful and graceful. On top of that all of them are absolutely enjoyable.
Please try the last track, "Canon In D: The Pachelbel 'Loose' Cannon" when you are blue.
