4 out of 5 stars better than I thought.......2007-07-07

I'm one of those people who started out in rock thinking anything mainstream is bad (because, let's face it, it usually is). I listened to all my rock-snob friends who said MCR are emo crap and never gave them a chance. Then one day I heard "Welcome to the Black Parade" on MTV and thought, "Now this is some good music." When I found out it was MCR I was immediately appalled and intrigued at the same time. I went out and bought The Black Parade and immediately loved it.

After listening to the Three Cheers singles, I decided that MCR are amazing from going from Three Cheers to The Black Parade. I thought the singles were mediocre at best, and definitely emo. But then I listened to the rest of the album and I was plesantly surprised. Though the entire album is pop-rock, and yes, still a bit emo, it really isn't a bad thing. In the context of the album, the singles seem less emo and more mainstream, straight-up rock. As a guitar player, I can respect Ray's playing a lot. In a mainstream music industry where guitar solos are as rare as fat girls (more of both of these things would make me endlessly happy), hearing a good solo now and again is really refreshing and uplifting.

The highlights for me are "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" which at first really just made me cringe at the melodrama. But that comes with the territory with this band. Also the other two singles ("Helena" and "Ghost of You"), plus my favorite, "Cemetary Drive." The rest of the songs are entertaining, and there isn't one that I don't like. While some are forgettable and they all seem to run together after only a few listens, if you give the CD a chance you'll begin to distinguish between songs.

Though it's not nearly as good as The Black Parade, Three Cheers is a good solid CD. Don't expect miracles, but it's better than what most rock-snobs give it credit for. And that's coming from a fellow rock-snob.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ALL THE WAY.......2007-06-20

This album is outstanding. I am a big System of a Down fan, and usually can't put there stuff down. I have been an MCR fan for about six months. I just happened to hear I'm Not OK, and thought it was one of the best songs I ever heard. I don't listen to radio much, nor do I watch a bunch of music videos. But I have to say it impressed me enough to go buy this cd, and between this and the Black Parade, I am astonished. I literally have not listened to anything else, but maybe a few times since I started listening to them. Once you get hooked on one song long enough, you end up getting hooked on something else. There isn't a single bad song on this cd. The lyrics and the music, just go so great together. Do yourself a favor and join the parade, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Not love at first hear, takes a few listens to fully appreciate.......2007-06-08

I originally bought it because the three singles that came off of it were so good, and I already had their new cd and loved it. At first I wasn't that impressed, but it grew on me. Probably doesn't hurt that I've seen them in concert twice since I bought it, and they played a lot of songs off this at their concerts.

5 out of 5 stars If only for "Bury Me in Black"-get this one-some good acoustics too.......2007-05-24

This one has a range from very Metallica-ish (Bury Me in Black)-good hooks and riffs to "Interlude" acoustic & pure. Has the big hits like "Helena"-the tribute to Gerard & Mikey's Grandma and "I'm not okay"-fun to sing in heavy traffic. Bet you'll see several of these on a "best hits" if ever there should be one in the future. Yet, another must have.

5 out of 5 stars I love it.......2007-05-07

I think this is one of the best cds!!i rearry like it!

If the comics on Saturday Night Live ever wanted to spoof the current line of mascara-painted '80s revivalists such as the Killers and Bravery, it's unlikely their efforts would be nearly as successful as She Wants Revenge. It's not that the Los Angeles duo made up of party DJ Adam Bravin and former De La Soul copycat Justin Warfield means for its self-titled debut to be funny. But the group's one-note impression of dark new wave acts like Joy Division, The Cure and Bauhaus is just so blatant--from the ominous bass-lines and fawning band name (Peter Hook's New Order side project was called Revenge) to song titles such as "Tear You Apart" (Ian Curtis fans would be right to notice the similarities to their beloved "Love Will Tear Us Apart") and Goth 101 lyrics ("Take your hand, and smack me in the mouth, my love") -- it's hard not to laugh. --Aidin Vaziri

Album Description

Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin (aka DJ Adam 12) met as kids in the San Fernando Valley in 1986. Growing up listening to everything from Run DMC and Public Enemy to The Cure, Prince and Depeche Mode, they would each develop as musicians, djs and producers, pursuing critically acclaimed careers, each in their own right. They assembled a live band to accompany them, and after only 3 mind-blowing hometown shows, set out on two legs of the North American Bloc Party tour. Since then they have played in the UK, and have begun to amass a sizeable local following in Los Angeles, opening for such acts as The Raveonettes, Moving Units, The Kills, Bloc Party, and OK Go.

5 out of 5 stars I love this album.......2007-06-27

This album has all kinds of evil, hate-filled lyrics, but the music is just so darn catchy! This band just kept growing on me until I had to run out and buy the album. If you like Interpol, Editors, or that style, this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars STOP bickering.......2007-06-26

It's just as annoying as the Muse vs. Radiohead fan-clash.

Stop and shut up. You don't need to come rushing to a SWR CD to write bad reviews just because someone said it was better than your favorite band. If you disagree, disagree and that's enough.

I like SWR a LOT. I think all of the bands that "sound similar" are good, it's just that SWR is exactly the style of that type of music that I like.
They have a good sound, I like it. Unfortunately, all of their songs have pretty much the same sound- but AGAIN- I still like it.

But enough of the 'She wants revenge copied ____ because ___.'.
No one gives a hoot!
Lots of bands sound like other bands. And though there are some similarities, there are some HUGE differences.
Example being Radiohead vs. Muse.. they had like one similar song and have some similarities with the voice, but their styles of music are TOTALLY different.

C'mon. Leave SWR alone. It's like two older guys who like writing and music and finally decided to make a band. They're not the best, they're not the worst. It's a matter of opinion. You like it or you don't.. just like any other band.

But one thing you can't deny is the fact that the lyrics in She Wants Revenge music are very, very good. There's always an interesting story or something. That's the main part. The music accompanies it well. It's incredibly catchy at times.

Well, their new album is coming out this fall. Hopefully it will be better.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT ALUBM!!!! one of my top 5.......2007-06-21

what can I say, if you like Alt rock/indie. You have to buy this CD!!!! This is one of those rare albums that doesn't have a bad track on it. You can put the CD in and let the whole thing play with out having to skip crappy songs. these guys have a great sound and i cant wait to hear their new album! plus i met these guys in Tokyo last year, they are down to earth and really cool.

3 out of 5 stars So what ISN'T derivative today??.......2007-06-01

Yeah, it sounds like a lot of 80's stuff, but who doesn't sound like SOMEBODY today? Bands like Nickelback can sell millions of CDs sounding like every generic band I've ever heard over the last thirty years. With almost every new band today plugging into the same tired, rehashed nu-metal/screamo/emo/shoegazing/pop-punk krap formula that wore out its welcome years ago, at least these guys are heading in the right direction. I long for the days when alternative radio stations were playing The Cure, Depeche, New Order, Tears for Fears, Talk Talk, etc., instead of the geared-for-tweens junk we hear now. And while SWR won't win any awards for songwriting originality, they at least show promise for what is, after all, their first effort. I think they could go far with their subsequent albums. My first suggestion for the next album? Add a real drummer!

5 out of 5 stars That's why it's so good.......2007-05-13

Everyone that is complaining about it sounding like Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy need to get over themselves. That's what makes this album so much fun. Every album doesn't have to be deep and meaningful or so new it destroys convention... sometimes it's just kinda fun. This album is that. I got it not really knowing what it was but am totally happy with it. It's a GOOD listen.

John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21

product: Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V), included as bonus disc in Episode III soundtrack.

The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.

With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21

The Episode III soundtrack is very good. Not great, but very, very good. You can tell that Williams is getting old, but he still manages to weave together a very memorable score.

My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."

Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.

Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

See Yu

5 out of 5 stars John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20

There is little more I can say that hasn't already been said about the soundtrack to Episode 3, especially what Amazon contributor Dan Mohr wrote in his review of the soundtrack on 2/2/2006. His review captured almost all the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had when I first listened to the soundtrack, and was, IMO, the best review of John Williams' greatest masterpiece.

Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.

Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Conclusion to the Prequel Trilogy.......2007-04-07

This is a great work of art. I rank it 4th among Star Wars soundtracks after A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Phantom Menace. I had a hard deciding which I thought was better, The Phantom Meance or Revenge of the Sith, but I decided that The Phantom Menace lays the foundation for so much that is in this soundtrack and is thus the more masterful work. But that doesn't mean that this score still isn't great. Every piece is a thrill to listen to and pace never lets up. "Battle of the Hereos" is an amazing piece and the rendition of the "Funeral Theme" from Episoded I captures the film's tragety magnificently. Also I do not think John Williams could have portrayed the Jedi's extinction more perfectly than he did in "Anakin's Betrayal". This is without a doubt the best score of 2005 and one of the best of the decade.

2 out of 5 stars Williams is slumming it.......2007-04-01

Williams's score for Revenge of the Sith is almost entirely overbearing, lacking any emotional subtlety. The music is overcomplicated and even a bit confusing, especially in the tracks that correspond to action sequences in the movie. His overuse of choral tracks and vocals is too bombastic and irritating to be listened to without the explosions and laser blasts of the soundtrack to soften them. (Yes, this music is actually softened by the sounds of warfare.) Worst of all, much of the music has simply been lifted from earlier scores. At times his self-imitation was so blatant that I actually wondered whether the editor who had complied this score had made a mistake and I was listening to The Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope. Also suffers from not including the entire score, in some cases cutting out musical segues in obvious and awkward ways.

Allison and Catherine Pierce are from Alabama, they're sisters, they're rather attractive, one of them is supposedly (as of this writing) dating someone from the Strokes, and as kids they were both "accomplished" ballerinas. Together they make some pretty fine, artsy pop with provocative lyrics vaguely in the vein of Regina Spektor. Thirteen Tales is the first album the duo has made with their own say-so; their earlier records were pleasant if innocuous, slicked-up folk. There's a dramatic flair to their country-inflected orchestral New Wave folk-pop. With its doubled-up and contemporary-sounding pop vocal style, the macabre "Secrets" sounds like the soundtrack to a Tim Burton movie with words written by Dame Darcy, as sung by half the members of the Pussycat Dolls. If anything, they're a little too ambitious on their third album. With each track assigned its own stylistic variation (however slight), the album is scattered as a whole. But this is definitely a super entertaining duo, one to watch out for. --Mike McGonigal

5 out of 5 stars Thirteen tales of love and revenge.......2007-07-15

I am a new fan of The Pierces, a sister act. I have read a lot of good reviews about the group The Pierces which got my attention. I was curious to hear their music. I recently picked up their latest cd THIRTEEN TALES OF LOVE AND REVENGE. I am absolutely hooked. The music is catchy and a lot of fun to listen too. I guess I would describe their music as indie pop. The lyrics are as quirky and playful as their music is. The group uses a lot of interesting instruments on through out the album like the glockenspiel, Hawaiian lap steel, slide whistle, sitar, and autoharp which you wouldn't hear on your typical pop album. THIRTEEN TALES OF LOVE AND REVENGE is anything but your typical pop album. The lyrics are laced with bitterness and anger over relationships that went sour. The sisters' vocals reminds me a bit of Gwen Stefani (like on "Lights Up"), Alanis Morrisette, and Fiona Apple but for the most part they have their own style of singing. I usually am not fond of when music critics fawn over certain artists because they tend to not live up to their hype but this is not the case with The Pierces. The critics were spot on with this talented duo.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect suggestion by amazon.com.......2007-05-23

I had never heard of the Pierces before and came across this album on amazon.com, it was listed as a suggestion for me based on my previous likes and purchases. I have to say, what a great way to find out about them! It fits my eclectic taste perfectly, it is sometimes sweet, has tongue-in-cheek humor and conveys many different moods. These girls are amazing, I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

The newest album of The Pierces called "Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge" is chocolat for the ears! Their lyrics are funny, bold and kinky in an innocent-school-girl kind of way. It is like the novel "Special Topics in Calamity Physics" by Marisha Pessl put into music! Shockingly good!

Fifteen years of recording and alt-country's smartest smartass has never released a live album or a greatest-hits collection (the odds 'n' sods Very Best Of doesn't count). This two-disc set just about settles the score. On disc one, a good slice of Fulks's best songs gets the full roots-rock-weirdo treatment with his longtime road band: the closing triad "Rock Bottom, Pop. 1," "Cigarette State," and "Let's Kills Saturday Night" shows Fulks on top of his skewed country-rock game. On stage, he may distort and twist lines like a psycho-hillbilly jazz singer, but he'll never sing a song the same way twice. On the superior second disc, however, he plays acoustic, showing just how much he learned as a bluegrasser and just home much he's willing to chop and screw those lessons. His deathless folk homage, "In Bristol Town One Bright Day," is transformed into a fractured guitar epic, and his take on Cher's "Believe" (complete with hiccups to mimic the diva's robotic pitch-shifting) is as passionate as it is hilarious. Fulks claims he hates live albums: they're just rip-offs, with weaker versions of old songs, he says. So he adds a good number of unreleased covers and new original songs: "The Bluebirds Are Singing for Me," "On a Real Good Day," and "That's a Good Enough Reason" are especially fine. Yet if you're looking for an accurate document of what a Fulks show is like, you won't find it here. Jokes, banter, and spontaneous crowd interaction are minimized--with the notable exception of an extended intro to "I Like Being Left Alone," a sweet and sour comedy, and the best of his new tunes--and most tracks fade down over applause. As a record maker, Fulks's heart really wasn't into releasing a live set; as a performer, though, his heart, even at its most sarcastic, is never in doubt. One listen to the closing hootenanny stomp (featuring Kelly Hogan on harmonies) of the Carter Family's "Away On the Old Saint Sabbath" is all the evidence you need. --Roy Kasten

3 out of 5 stars Any Fulks is Good Fulks.......2007-07-02

Robbie Fulks is a favorite of mine. His best work, for me, ranks right up there with Hank Sr, George Jones, and Johnny Cash. He's a brilliant songwriter and he has mastered many styles of country music. His best stuff, judging from this set, comes from the studio. No doubt he is great to see live, and this set has many gems, but none approach the genius found in 2005's "Georgia Hard" studio disc.

There is plenty of fun, energy, good pickin', and a few new gems. Surely worth owning, but not a good starting place. Get this to complete your collection, but first be sure to hear Georgia Hard, South Mouth, 13 Hillbilly Giants, Let's Kill Saturday Night, Couples in Trouble, and The Very Best Of. Fulks has never made a bad record, and this one keeps up his winning streak. Still, I cannot wait for him to get back into the studio.

4 out of 5 stars Robbie carries on.......2007-06-20

Bought on a whim, but really enjoyed this 2 disc set.

5 out of 5 stars robbie fulks is the man.......2007-06-02

if you are already a fan of robbie fulks then you know that you will love this album. his humor comes through on the first track which is an ode to traveling on the road. he recorded new material which is spliced in with the live tracks. the album is two discs with the first one being electric guitars drums and bass with robbie on his trade mark acoustic and the second disc is all acoustic. this album is a must have for any robbie fulks fan and a great introduction if you havent been fortunate enough to hear him. i had the pleasure of seeing him live and meeting him and the album captures his stage whit and energy.

During the second half of the 1960s, before he became a ubiquitous TV star and commercial pitchman, Bill Cosby was America's most popular--and influential--standup comic. Unlike the generation of Borscht-Belt funnymen that preceded him, Cosby didn't tell jokes, per se. Instead, he delivered colorful, tightly structured tales drawn from his experiences as a child and a parent, adopting a multitude of voices to portray the colorful array of characters who populated the Philadelphia neighborhood in which he grew up. Cosby's 1967 album Revenge is awash in bittersweet, hilarious accounts of snowball fights, scary monster movies, and youthful one-upsmanship. --Scott Schinder

5 out of 5 stars Revenge.......2007-03-15

I grew up listening to this album over 30 years ago. I hadn't heard it in years, but when I listened to it again a few weeks ago, I realized I remembered almost every line. I'm so glad this album is in CD form!

5 out of 5 stars "July...".......2006-11-10

"Revenge" is Bill Cosby's 1967 comedy record, and is filled with classic tracks about growing up in Philadelphia, his friends as a kid, his daughters, his brothers and the introduction of Fat Albert (who features in "Buck, Buck"). He captures his life pretty well with his stories, and it's funny too. I like the way the album is produced and paced, with themes runnning through the routines (like monsters and being scared, etc) and the steady flow of one routine to the next.

Definitely worth a listen for fans of comedy.

5 out of 5 stars Bill Cosby is "Smoking!".......2006-07-29

Revenge, Smoking, 9th Street Bridge and Buck Buck are my favorite tracks on this CD. The other tracks are OK. I grew up listening to Bill Cosby and his childhood stories are woven in with my own memories. Few things I remember as clearly as listening to Bill Cosby with my brother and sister. It was not too often that we would have fun together - but listening to Bill Cosby tell the stories of his childhood stopped our bickering and brought us together for a short time. And of course we could watch the stories come to life every Saturday morning on the cartoon FAT ALBERT.
Revenge, has one of my favorites, "Smoking." As the oldest and first to try everything - Smoking - brings back my own memories of trying 'be cool' in the early 1970's and enables me to shake my head and laugh at myself.

Don't miss out on this great live recording. Suitable for most ages.

5 out of 5 stars Master storyteller.......2006-04-14

Bill Cosby has had a phenomenal career as one of America's best-loved comedians. This collection of his stand-up material from the late 60s shows why. Cosby is a talented storyteller who eschews jokes and one-liners for humorous tales (often drawn, as is the case with this album, from his childhood) full of rich, comic detail. In these routines, he introduces some of his best-known characters, such as Fat Albert and Old Weird Harold.

5 out of 5 stars Revenge is sweet........2006-03-17

Bill Cosby is at his best on "Revenge," which contains one of his well-known routines, the title track involving Junior Barnes and slushballs. Cosby's memories of raising children are priceless, but his memories of being a child himself are some of his most vivid, hilarious stories. If your friends don't know who Fat Albert is, or what Buck Buck is, either get new friends, or force them to listen to this album. There's no way to explain these things to your friends either, but to let them hear it from Bill Cosby himself (pun intended for those who truly understand).

For his third album, John Prine returned to the fuller sound of his landmark debut while venturing into increasingly cryptic lyrical terrain. Songs such as "Mexican Home," "Accident (Things Could Be Worse)," and "Blue Umbrella" are open-to-interpretation explorations that reveal the songsmith's intrepid reflections; they're also among the 12-song set's best numbers. "Dear Abby" is a comical novelty number while "Christmas in Prison" is a doleful in-the-clink carol. The openhearted "A Good Time" slipped into the shadows after Sweet Revenge (like Prine's other Atlantic albums) failed to hit commercial paydirt, but it's as touching as anything Prine has penned. This outing isn't as musically distinctive as Prine's other albums from his early period, but as collections of songs go, it's first-rate. --Steven Stolder

I love Prine's music. I own more of his albums than I can count. If I had to pick 10 desert island disks, 7 of them would be by Prine. Out of all of them, this one is my favorite - it's the one I find myself listening to over and over again. Great songs, lively music with an edge, and some great guitar playing by Steve Goodman and others. A masterpiece.

Overall rating: Three and a half stars.

3 out of 5 stars Songs' value lost in production.......2004-05-15

I love John Prine. He has the ability to make you laugh while you're crying. His songs are masterful blends of dark sorrow and light humor. Howerver, that magic is lost for me on most of this album. The production is way too thick for my attention to pierce to access songs like Blue Umbrella amd Mexican Home. These songs are better realized on "John Prine Live". Granpa Was a Carpenter and Please Don't Bury Me are staple Prine but in my opinion, best aquired in a collection like Prime Prine. Leave this one 'til last.

5 out of 5 stars I got kicked off of Noah's Ark...........2004-02-20

With this line John begins to take us on a wonderful ride of emotions, wit and sadness in the span of about 40 minutes. You might say "hey, this dude never had a hit record in his life" and you are right but that's one of his better qualities as far as I'm concerned. His slice-of-life songs are so memorable that you'll have a hard time forgetting them. "The Accident" and "Dear Abbey" are hilarious. "A Good Time" and "Christmas in Prison" are breathtaking. I could go on and on but the best advice is to just listen and soak it all up.

Huston's finest, Chamillionaire, along with the 'Color Changin Click' boys, come out from their underground mix-tape days and step up into the major leagues, with King Koopa's(chamillonaire) debut record 'Sound of Revenge'.

Chamillionaire gets all the people in the clubs to come out on the floor, with the big bangers like 'ridin' and 'turn it up', he gives million dollar beats but with some meaningful lyrics, this guy isen't about how many b*tchs he can get in one night, he's about showing the people that rap means more than thugs with baggy pants and not everyone who has big chains and tall tees are criminals. But don't think that because this guys diffrent, it dosent make him bad. All of his tracks give some great thumps and some of the most ground breaking chain of ryhmes I've ever heard. He's got all of the dirty south's top tier names, he's got southern legend Scarface, the king of underground Krayzie Bone, with Lil Flip, B Bun, Killer Mike, Lil Wayne, even his brother Rasaq.

Basically, it comes to this, Sound of Revenge is one of the best albums out on market, he's giving the people what they want, and its good. Real good.(Sophmore album 'Ultimate Victory' comes out July 6)

Lets get one thing straight. Before this album, Chamillionaire wasnt singin, he was snappin. When Lil Flip dropped with the freestyling mixtapes, a Paul Wall and Chamillionaire mixtape with freestyles was the next best thing. You could count 50 punchlines in every song. Now he sounds like 50 cent long lost brother. he even look like him now. The album straight because he jumped on real topics, but he aint a real topic artist. Why is everybody from Texas switchin up tryna prove that they hard or something. its just entertainment. U could probably try Devin the Dude in the streets and get yo head blown smooth off... but he dont say that on every song.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Revenge sweet revenge - Hard Rock Strikes Back.......2007-06-22

If you liked Allen-Lande's first album The Battle, be aware that The Revenge tastes much better. This is in fact top-noth hard rock with some AOR performed by two of the best singers today and a disc that will become one of your favourites after one listen, so great it is. The abundant catchy melodies, vocal lines and choruses wont leave your mind so soon, believe me.

Russell Allen is the singer of prog metal Symphony X besides being main singer for Arjen Lucassen's Star One project. Jorn Lande sang with Malmsteen, ARK, Company of Snakes (Whitesnake tribute), Masterplan and a dozen others. Where Allen adds an almost bluesy feeling and roundness, Lande comes with agression and that Robert Plant's "rudeness". Together they duet like I have never seen before. And you see tons of catchy vocals, cheesy choruses, hooky guitar riffs and inspired solos (courtesy of the great Magnus Karlson), all with that melodic hard rock positive optimistic attitude. The Revenge flows naturally from one song to another and there is not one of them unworthy of being a smash hit. If it were the 80's, The Revenge would figure on the world's charts for weeks, earn a platinum album, MTV would be filled with its videoclips, the singers would show up at David Letterman and so on.

THE REVENGE is the mindblower hard rock opener with one of the catchiest singalong chorus I've ever seen. OBSESSED alternates melodic guitars and somewhat agressive vocals. VICTORY has a humalong ultramelodic guitar line and a duet chorus that will catch you straight through the heart. MASTER OF SORROW is one of the best ballads in rock's history, amazing feeling and power. WILL YOU FOLLOW mixes some poppy punk with modern In Flames and the result is very good. JUST A DREAM could be an MTV Hit with it's Sammy Hagar's Van Halen inspired melody. HER SPELL deals in melodic metal territory with those keyboard fast lines, crescendo bridges and raise-your-fists chorus. GONE TOO FAR is pratically a Dream Theater wonderful slow ballad leading to one of the best mindblower, singalong cheesy chorus I've ever seen. WAKE UP CALL adds some complexity, changing pace, heaviness and mood quite often, and its chorus could be soundtrack to any Rocky Balboa's movie. UNDER THE WAVES also changes its mood often, changing from Dream Theater ballad to modern In Flames inspired guitars passing through an easy chorus that will get you singing in no time. WHO CAN YOU TRUST reminds me of Lande's ex-band Masterplan, heavier and less "optimistic". And WHEN TIME DOESNT HEAL is the finishing acoustic-power ballad, that perfect psicological support for any broken heart, lots of feeling.

Buy it and taste The Revenge. You will want to repeat it on and on and on...

5 out of 5 stars Blow Your Mind!!.......2007-05-25

This is another stellar and exceptional performance from all who were involved in this project. I was anticipating this cd since its annoucement last year. I knew I had to get because I have the 1st album and that sounded so good. And now finally have this cd in hand it's an extraordinary experience. I have since listen to this entire album 9 times and am extremely happy with the outcome of this album. Melodic and heavy at its best. What else can I ask for when this is a TEN star product. All credits goes to MAGNUS KARLSSON for writing, composing, playing and executing this to perfection. Russell Allen and Jorn Lande is the icing on the cake. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Lightning strikes twice.......2007-05-20

In 2005, the fates (and the good people at Frontiers Records) brought together two of metal's most powerful vocalists - Symphony X singer Russell Allen and journeyman Jorn Lande (ex-about a dozen other bands) for a special project called Allen/Lande: The Battle. The album featured songwriting, production, and guitar work by Last Tribe's Magnus Karlsson. The result was melodic metal perfection and one of the year's best albums. Two years later it seems that lightning can indeed strike twice, as both vocalists have returned for another album, this one called the Revenge.

The Revenge brings both powerhouse vocalists back together for another dozen high quality melodic metal songs, again courtesy of Magnus Karlsson. Beyond providing some very excellent guitar work on this album, Karlsson once again proves why he is considered one of the best songwriters/producers in the melodic metal genre. If anyone is better than Karlsson, it would have to be Pink Cream 69's Dennis Ward, who is also on board mixing the Revenge. With such a stellar team in place, expectations for the Revenge are understandably high.

Fortunately, the Revenge lives up to those expectations. Both singers have been busy lately (Allen with the long awaited Symphony X album Paradise Lost and Lande with a pair of compilations), but their performances here are as solid as ever. Each vocalist has a unique and dynamic style, and hearing them perform together is a vocalist fan's dream come true. Fortunately close to half of the songs on the Revenge feature both singers. Karlsson's songs range from harder-edged melodic rock to progressive metal, and totally capitalize on each singer's capabilities. Ward and Karlsson's production skills are also showcased to great effect, as the Revenge has a very crisp and clean overall sound. All in all, the Revenge is a first rate melodic metal album, and a more than worthy successor to the Battle.

The Revenge is another must-have melodic metal fan, and is an early contender for album of the year. If you're a fan of Russell Allen, buy this album. If you're a fan of Jorn Lande, buy this album. If you enjoy top quality melodic metal bands like Pretty Maids, Last Tribe, TNT, Pink Cream 69, Starbreaker, and Sunstorm, you absolutely must buy this album.

PS - I'd love to see this idea expanded a bit to include vocalists like DC Cooper, David Readman, Tony Harnell, etc. in some sort of rotating friendly competition among the genre's best singers.

For the first time, I listened to LAGQ from Vermont Public Radio while I came back home. After listening to "Little Fugue In G Minor", I could not get it out of my mind. I like the original version of Bach's organ music but the LAGQ version gave me a different feeling of music: True melancholy.
Buying the cd gave me a lot of joyful time. All the music in the cd were excellent. I believe there are a lot of musicians who are techically perfect but only a few of them can give me this kind of pleasure. All the music are beautiful and graceful. On top of that all of them are absolutely enjoyable.

Please try the last track, "Canon In D: The Pachelbel 'Loose' Cannon" when you are blue.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Guitars...And Then Some!.......2006-10-17

As a guitarist(mostly metal, neo-classical, rock, and blues), I have always been seeking that one 'classical' album that is just guitars working out entire orchestrations; no violins, cellos, etc(nothing personal, mind you...). This is that album. From the subtle to the intense, these 4 players work effortlessly together, putting together some faithful and authentic renditions of some familiar(some not so familiar)classical pieces. I was amazed at first just by the blinding technique, but began to appreciate the much more hidden aspects of this CD on multiple listenings. It has inspired me to look into a whole new style of playing. This is a really good starter CD for someone like myself who is just looking for some nice classical guitar ensembles.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasure For Your Musical Soul .......2006-02-22

I listened to this CD three times straight to make sure I heard every outstanding note. The arrangements were superb, and the talent....
This CD is a must for anyone who loves guitar and arrangments that will have you humming in your sleep!!

5 out of 5 stars Just amazing playing!.......2005-05-17

This cd is great, the repertoire isn't played very much, and these four gentlemen play it so well! My personal favorite track on the disc is the "loose" cannon! Just a fun arrangement of one of the most popular classical songs of all time, and it's virtuosic in every way! Another great CD. Enjoy!
