Country rock at its best.......2006-07-29
Best Southern rock from my high school days........2006-07-04
I listened to this album on 33 1/3 rpm about a thousand times when I was in school. The melodies are sweet and the guitar work is polished. I broke a few hearts with "So Long."
Firefall still plays, and I have seen them several times here in Colorado.
Luna Sea.......2006-02-25
An Under-rated Band.......2004-12-05
In my opinion, internal squabbling, substance abuse and perhaps just plain lack of a break, prevented these guys from being as big as the Eagles. This album, along with the following Elan and Undertow albums are fantastic examples of songwriting craft, tight harmonies and superb musicianship. Get 'em all!!

Luna Sea has come full-circle.......2004-04-04
Fans from their indies days may complain that Luna Sea's style has changed too much--and, indeed, "Lunacy" is a far cry from the days when Ryuichi screamed more often than sang, his macabre lyrics sliding into gothic darkness. Yet "Lunacy" is a gem, an album of musicians highly-polished and mature, one last testament to the powerful unit they had become. Sugizo's tribute to James Bond--"Sweetest Coma Again"--rings with his genius and talent, in structure as well as aesthetics (his lead guitar never ceases to amaze), and as always Inoran complements him perfectly as Second Guitar. Shinya and J provide the solid backbone of "Lunacy", unspoiled and amazing, with percussion and bass guitar that seem almost unreal; while Ryuichi's infamous voice matches every note, nuance, and tone with the pop majesty that he has so comfortably groomed himself into.
"Lunacy" is the end of a story: shortly after its release, Luna Sea disbanded and its members went their separate ways. While it may not hold the passion of earlier albums ("Mother" and "Style" for example), or the sharp angst that propelled songs from their more visual days to beautiful ubiquity ("Rosier" comes to mind), "Lunacy" can stand by itself as an album of particular craftmanship and ability.
Tracklisting:
Be Awake * Sweetest Coma Again (featuring DJ KRUSH) * gravity * KISS (featuring DJ KRUSH) * 4:00 AM * VIRGIN MARY * white out * a Vision * FEEL * TONIGHT * Crazy About You
More sensitive fans might wish to note that there is some distinct profanity in "white out".
'Slave' from Malaysia.......2002-09-24
Many fans complaint about this album coz they can't accept LS's new style
This album is pretty good but I prefer 'Style' coz their way of playing is really special in that album
Great song from Lunacy
4:00am
one of my favourite,Ryuichi(vocal) sounded really 'lazy' in the beginning ,at first it sounds pop but in the ending part they changed it to alternative that sounds awesome
Virgin Mary
A masterpiece. It's the best track of the whole CD.Ryuichi did a great job in the chorus.
If u like ths song try one of these track from their previous album=Another,Moon,Genesis of mind,Forever and ever
Crazy about you
The chorus was really good ,the ending was near perfect
Gravity
The guitar sounded really cool.J(bass) did a wonderful job in this track
To me,the way to like a song is by understanding it,not by language but by music......DPO
A little bit disapointed.......2002-03-27
I recommend you to buy this CD or any other by Luna Sea if you like groups that sound the same in every single and song. Also if you are their fan. It's not a bad group, only a simple one, nothing unique in their songs. Their best song is "TRUE BLUE", the only one that seems to be "REALLY COOL".
It's an average group. That's all.
Luna Sea does it again!.......2001-07-03

The Definitive LUNA SEA Album: "Mother".......2005-09-06
Released in 1994, following the waves of such contagious successes as the very VK "Image" and "Eden" albums, Luna Sea's "Mother" showcases ten near-perfect tracks reflecting the opulence and anger of the burgeoning times it was conceived in. The compact disc starts of more slowly with "Loveless"--an almost "pop" song of simple instrumentation and catchy refrains--but the second track sets the LS standard for years to follow. "Rosier" is a fantastic (perhaps somewhat over-played) Visual Kei anthem with edgy lyrics propounded by Ryuichi's daring vocal range; amazing, ethereal guitars; a solid bass line; and Shinya's infallible percussion. If one could only pick a single song with which to define Luna Sea's exceptional talent and vision, "Rosier" is that song--it's THAT good. Yet following with "Face to Face" (track three), "Civilize" (track four), and "Genesis of Mind ~ Yume no Kanata e" (track five), Luna Sea quickly branches away from the spiritual angst of "Rosier" and shows just how diverse a band they can be. From a song that was apparently written for the sole purpose of extended make-out sessions; to an 'industrial' cacophany upon the ears; to an exquisite epic showcasing the celebrated talent of Sugizo in particular (his creative use of his triple-neck guitar is an exceptional treat); Luna Sea explores various venues within their music and brings up a "perfect ten" every time. "Aurora", "IN FUTURE", "FAKE", and "True Blue" round out the second half of the album with more mystic, catchy, and straight-forward rock melodies, and to crown it all is the song that only Luna Sea could have devised: "Mother". The Japanese rock band with a penchant for sticking reflections of Christendom randomly within their songs (like "Jesus" from the "Eden" album), "Mother" has lyrics alluding to the Virgin Mary falling dolefully against a backdrop of Sugizo's expressive, wailing violin.
While earlier albums held less polish but more raw emotion, and later works shone with perfect performance yet more of a "pop-rock" feel, "Mother" caught Luna Sea within the world that they knew best: angry, spiritual, philosophical, and full of feeling (even the album cover--while exceptionally disturbing with the image of a nun wearing a blood-soaked habit--perfectly expresses this chaos). And while others might argue that Luna Sea's "Image" captures more of the ephemeral Visual Kei philosophy, it goes without saying that "Mother" is the definitive album of Luna Sea, and a necessity for any serious connoisseur of modern Japanese music.

Slave ^_^.......2004-08-20
Luna Sea never fails to deliver, yet something is lacking..........2004-04-24
Now, standing on their own, there are some wonderful hits on this album: great rock singles like "STORM", "TONIGHT", and the quintessential "ROSIER"; slower, more ballad-style songs such as "I for You", and the infectious fan-favorite "WISH". (It's also worth mentioning that, as far as I know, this is the only full-length album that the touching "LOVE SONG" can be found.) Yet this compliation lacks some of the slowly-built energy that songs such as "Genesis of Mind ~ Yume no Kanata e" or "Forever & Ever" exploded previous albums with... and the song selection of this CD is not very diverse in style. I think "Civilize" would have added a different feel, with its signature industrial tone; or perhaps "Providence" featuring Sugizo's beautiful violin solo. Regardless, this disc showcases enough of a variety of Luna Sea's work (fifteen tracks) that you can't say you don't get your money's worth, although perhaps you may feel a little jilted in the aesthetics department (pure white cover, no pictures or photos of the band inside).
Maybe it's just me, but in this instance when the cream was all brought together, it didn't quite make butter. However, if you're new to J-Rock and just want to try it out, or are looking for a one-time stop regarding Luna Sea, this album will probably be just what you're looking for.

Calm Seas, Tropical Nights.......2006-08-25
About halfway through the Concert drummer Michael Clarke introduced his friend Rick Roberts and out to the stage with only an acoustic guitar the great man bounced. I was right down front and like a Eighties Booberoo, I yelled out "So Long", Rick turned my way, gave me a big smile and launched right into "Just Remember I Love You"... Mouths dropped. All bloodshot eyes focused, Even the Waitresses shut up. Of a night of Amazing Music Rick Roberts shone through like a Diamond in a Coal Field. He could have ran for King of the Planet that night, he was that good.
This was the first thing by this Group I had bought. The first Record "Firefall" had been a huge sucess and I had heard "Cinderella" & 'Mexico" on the Radio but I did bybass that record for some reason. In the summer of 77 I spotted record No. 2 "Luna Sea" in the record bin and picked this one up ($5.99) I had not heard a note of this second release on the Radio yet.
"So Long" is the opener and it's a stunner, this is a GREAT Rock song, this Band could Rock and this is the Proof. Over- looked as a single still it stands as one of the best pieces of Music Produced in the 1970's. I would have enjoyed to have had Firefall continue in this direction but it seems their Record Company was pushing them more to the Ballads which translated to big Radio Plays and Big Bucks.
This is why Track Two, "Just Remember I Love You" was the Single from this record that is best remembered and it topped at No.11 on the Pops Charts.
Other songs overlooked at the time shine here such Larry Burnett's great rocker "Sold On You" in which Rick and Larry share the Vocals and twist the style and tempo back and forth (But Larry wins on this one, it's his song). "Someday Soon" yet another big ballad from Rick is Perfect, This was not a Single but it could have been...Another Gem.
"Just Think" by Larry is Da Bluze and another showcase for some Great Guitar playing from a Band not remembered for this sort of thing. This was a Highlight on stage for Firefall Concerts of 77 & 78...Don't overlook what Larry brought to this band as he had the Fire and by the laughter at the end the band was having big fun here.
"Getawy" continues in the Rock Mode as does "Head On Home" and "Only a Fool" & "Piece of Paper" are lighter acoustic pieces. The closer "Even Steven" has some silly Lyrics but it sure is a catchy Tune...Great Melody.
This Rhino Release has added four Bonus Songs from "Tropical Nights" the Original planned 2nd Record that was scrapped mid way through when the concept was changed to "Luna Sea". The track "Tropical Night' sounds like it's right outta "Pet Sounds" (Beach Boys circa 1966) it's a sleepy Experimental number, Pretty but it seems unfinished. The instrumental "Rainforest" is very Classical and it is mixed right into a great Larry Rocker called "Ya Never Know"...Whew, this is serious stuff here, No Kidding, Now I'm wondering if there is more of this project in the vaults and if it COULD be released. "Luna Sea" could be done up as an "Deluxe" 2 Disc Set. Let's hope... Oh, yeah there's the Roberts track "Over You" which is alot like "So Long" and it Bookends this version of "Luna Sea".
For me "Luna Sea" & "Elan" are the two best Records from this Great Band, But I can't understand why there is not a Box Set (at least 4 CD's) for the "Firefaithfuls....SIGH.
Good Effort from a Great Band.......2000-02-08
