Kardes Türküler's album "Dogu" has absolutely everything. Pain, joy, sorrow, light, darkness, rebirth, death, contrast, sincerity... A diverse instrumentation (massive percussion section, a range of wind and string instruments, multiple male and female vocalists), combined with flawless compositions and arrangements, create a modern masterpiece. Kardes Türküler manages to sound deeply authentic but at the same time futuristic in their unique approach. Not only are the layer upon layer of intricacies spectacularly engineered (I have never heard percussion sound even remotely this amazing), but Kardes Türküler also have a unique social agenda: creating cultural tolerance between the diverse cultures of their homeland (Turkey). This album can really be anything you want it to be: something to sing along to, something to dance to, something to read to, something to analyze and appreciate with undevided attention. I predict that this album has something for everyone.

Although Amazon apparently doesn't carry them, Kardes Türküler has at least 4 other albums: Hemâvâz (2002), Bogaziçi Gösteri Sanatlari Toplulugu (1997), and two film sountracks, Vizontele (2001) and Vizontele Tuuba (2004). These are available in the United States if you search for stores who specialize in importing Turkish things, and because Kardes Türküler seems to enjoy a broad popularity in Turkey, most stores of this type will carry their albums. I hope that Amazon eventually carries all of them, all of which I highly recommend.

I was in Istanbul and bought this album upon the recomendation of a music store clerk. We wanted traditional Turkish dancing music, and this album is it, but much more. You can dance to this for a real fun time and even sit down and listen to every song with a deep amazment. Music lovers will feel new doors open to them if they've never heard Turkish music and this album is a great place to start.

brilliant music.......2001-05-13

i get this beautyful cd by my brother and i have to say that im very impressed by it. the artists play turkish, kurdish and armenian folk music. the sound is just great, very good production! and every song on this cd is a masterpiece. just brilliant music.
