I Love This cd!!.......2006-03-05
Very very good!!!! I think the song called "on and on" is amazing I herd it on "chill with chris botti" and all the other songs are great! but this cd!!!
A fun album.......2006-02-17
Delightful mix of old-fashioned jazz and new sampling. very enjoyable party album.
If you love jazz you'll love this!.......2005-10-17
Excellent album! I almost didn't buy this CD it was in the used bin and I figured I like his last CD Aural & Hearty so it was worth giving it a shot. I hadn't even heard of this album or Mocean Worker releasing anything new. I was totally suprised to find an excellent buy. This is what new jazz should sound like! Not the usual crap like Norah Jones or all the typical pop friendly, adult comtemporary s**t that's flooding the airwaves. My God what the f**k? People burn all those albums and buy something from a real artist like Mocean Worker. This album is just amazing! It reminds me of music from a jazz era forgotten. It's got blues, doo-wop, loads of jazz and an electronic (trip-hop, downbeat) background with slight touches of samples like Nina Simone doing Blackbird all blended together to create an excellent CD. It's an amazing album and it's infectious as soon as you pop it in it makes you wanna get up and groove to the first beats of Chick a Boom Boom Boom. Definitely worth checking out.

A must have!.......2005-08-20
I origonaly heard 'Chick a boom boom boom' on a local Jazz station & had to write down who it was so I could get it ASAP.
Jazzy/Funky-I do love the entire CD-which is a rare deal in a world of 1 or 2 good track's with a lot of filler.
I have a new favorite artist.......2005-03-16
The first time I heard "Right Now" on the radio,I stopped and thought, "What is this? This is cool." It seemed to be a blend of blues/jazz/techno. I'd never call myself a techno fan, but with the blues/jazz stylings, this just WORKED. I immediately went out to buy the CD, but no one had it. So, I ordered it and waited. The whole time I was waiting, I was thinking, "Man, I hope the rest of the CD is as cool as 'Right Now'." When I was finally able to pick it up, I immediately threw it in the CD player and smiled. It was. As with most albums, there are a some tracks I like better than others, but one thing I can say is that they're all different. This isn't bubblegum pop where every song sounds the same. Some tracks are fast, some are slow, but they're all interesting. I highly recommend this album, if you can find it.

Pleasant but Lightweight.......2005-07-22
A friend recently decided to thin out her huge CD collection, and she offered me my pick of the ones she was donating to charity. I grabbed this one, because I had fond memories of the song "What You Won't Do For Love" from the late '70s. I like this album, but I can see why I might wind up giving it away after a few years.
Caldwell's music is soulful and pleasant, but there's a lightweight quality to it. The melodies are catchy but forgettable, and the lyrics tend to be sugary and banal. Caldwell is a good singer, and his phrasing and timbre are reminiscent of Stevie Wonder, but Caldwell's songs have none of the sexual or socio-political edge or emotional depth of Wonder or other great soul artists.
Having said that, this album is solid easy listening fare. The song "What You Won't Do" stands the test of time as a distinctive pop soul classic. Other good songs include the ballads "My Flame" and "Take Me Back to Then." If you enjoy light, breezy pop soul, you'll probably like this CD.
You can't miss out on music like this!.......2004-12-24
This one that made it big for Bobby Caldwell. It's orignally titled "Bobby Caldwell" but was forced to change it due 2 total reasons. Can't say much about it, this is a good album that anybody who wants to hear good music 'cuz my dad said he's was once discovered by Barry White. Everybody should know that the title song to this CD is a all-time favorite slow jam one that would go on years to come.
I recommend u should buy this instead of a hip-hop/rap album I used to buy all the time.
No one should live without this!
some great stuff here, but simply not enough.......2004-11-22
This 1978 album was Bobby Caldwell's first--I believe it was originally a self-titled effort, and that the title was changed to "What You Won't Do for Love" when the song of the same name became a hit. There is some great stuff here, but unfortunately, it seems that Caldwell just didn't have enough material and/ or was in a hurry to meet a deadline, because there is a considerable amount of blatant filler, including overlong fades, & the album runs less than 35 minutes in the first place. Also, the lyrics are often very slight. He's clearly in disco territory on a couple songs--the album opening "Special To Me" is way too sugary, but the wonderfully melodic "Love Won't Wait" is an irresistible, somewhat jazz-flavored tune. The smooth, wistful soft rock ballad "My Flame" is captivating with great hooks, but there are a couple really weak ballads as well with the ridiculously sappy "Come To Me", and "Take Me Back To Then" which is a song about wanting to be a kid again and has a very annoyingly overblown lead vocal. Plus, the funk-flavored love ballad "Can't Say Goodbye" is really let down by the overwrought vocals, lame lyrics, & the excessive, overlong fade. The super mellow album closer "Down For The Third Time" has cool, jazzy guitar, & it's an infectiously catchy tune, but it has a fade that's really long, really repetitive, and really dull. He also slips in an instrumental fragment "Kalimba Song"--it's less than a minute & 1/2 long & fades out so abruptly that it leaves you with an undeniable "What, that's it?" feeling. There's no denying though that the soulful title track is a classic--it's got a great horn riff, cool orchestration, an ultra-catchy melody, & Caldwell's vocals on it are terrific--he sounds quite similar to Stevie Wonder, but without the annoyingly overdone 'show-biz' mannerisms that Wonder has a tendency to indulge in; this song also has a very long fade, but this time it's to nice effect--it's got a nice contemplative, atmospheric feel to it. In the end, the album is a heck of a mixed bag--it's a shame, because the best stuff demonstrates that Caldwell was capable of a masterpiece. As it is, this is still worth getting if you see it for a low price--there is some must-have material on here that makes the album worth having.
Torch Songs, Bobby's Way.......2004-10-31
Unrequited love can't get the best of you lovers out there -- that is, not if this sublime CD is part of your pop/R&B collection. I have the original CD of this set of songs, titled "Bobby Caldwell," and I love kicking back to listen to it when I'm feeling a bit haunted by ghosts, uh, lovers of the past.
My first time hearing "What You Won't Do for Love" was the morning of Valentine's Day on a Top 40 radio station. The DJ announced Bobby Caldwell's name excitedly, and I remember being puzzled because I had never heard of the singer before that day. I probably was late for school because Bobby Caldwell's smooth, soulful vocals blending with the Earth, Wind & Fire-influenced groove had me hypnotized in the middle of my room. Not since Deniece Williams' "Free," released the previous year, had I received such an exquisite lesson in adult-themed romance and intimacy.
As an adult, I love to imagine that Caldwell is crooning to me when I listen to slow cuts like "My Flame" and "Down for the Third Time." I also admire his fast-tempo tracks, but on the slow songs Caldwell gives a nod to Sinatra in his ability to transport the listener to a cozy jazz club setting. It's just Bobby and I, and he's onstage leaning down with the microphone toward me while I sit there blushing at the table-for-one -- ahem, sorry, I guess I got caught up in the moment.
While "What You Won't Do for Love" holds a special place in my memory, "My Flame" has become my favorite in recent years. On that track, the wistful kalimba and guitar pluck on the heartstrings while Caldwell interprets what could be any of our romantic experiences. For example, how many of us still have that "picture on the shelf" (or in the attic or closet -- but not buried there)? And how many of us wish we had a personal time machine that would allow us to demand to that former lover: "Tell me you still want me"? Just listen to the way Bobby Caldwell turns mellifluous on the word "flame" in the last refrain and you'll understand why he's a master of the torch song.
A final word about "My Flame": It has endurance not only in the minds of Caldwell's longtime fans but also in the music industry. Only a few years back, I got chills upon hearing Vanessa L. Williams' alluring cover of the song. (Only one of her greatest-hits collections includes "My Flame," so check out the track listing carefully.) It doesn't matter whether it was her decision or her record label's to record it, but she personified Desire in a way that probably made Caldwell proud -- royalties aside.
As for the midtempo "Down for the Third Time," Caldwell sounds as hip as ever singing about love and independence. The song's melodic ending, with its descending chord progression and Caldwell's undulating "oohs" and "ohs," is so infectious that you'll regret not having programmed the track back-to-back on your CD player.
This guy is a genius..........2004-02-09

Amazing Music.......2004-09-05
This is some of the most relaxing music I have ever heard. I was introduced to Caldwell's music after seeing his name as the songwriter to the Peter Cetera and Amy Grant duet "Next Time I Fall". His songs are very melodic and powerful. His music definitely reminds me of Peter Cetera's music and 80s Chicago. There is not one filler song on this cd. It is the best smooth jazz cd I have ever heard. All of the songs have lots of layered keyboards and guitars that make the songs just flow. Essential for smooth jazz and soft rock fans.
Why don't they play THIS on the radio???.......2004-01-30
I really miss not having a smooth jazz station in Boston, MA. That's where I first heard Bobby's music. This cd I bought after seeing the songs that were on it, and after having purchased his first Anthology cd. I had my my favorites before buying it "Heart of Mine", "Next time I fall" "What you won't do." But now, that list includes "Shape I'm in" "Janet", heck I can't name them all, but buy this cd, or borrow a friends, you'll want it for yourself!!!
OUTSATNDING!!!!!!!.......2003-12-18
Bobby is fantastic!!!!!!!! This is a great album.
Open Your Eyes...and ears........2003-06-10
Thank goodness for Larry Carlton. I was looking for his collaboration with TOTO's Steve Lukather, and pretty much right in front of it was this CD. Up to that point I had been familiar with Bobby Caldwell only as a songwriter (and a great one at that), so was surprised to learn of his extensive recorded output.
Opening with "What You Won't Do For Love" (which, I swear I had never heard before) the disc is a delight from start to finish, and seems to sound even better each time you listen to it. Amongst my favourite cuts are "Open Your Eyes", "In The Name Of Love", "Janet", "Where Is Love" and "Rain". I was also most surprised to find that his version of "Heart Of Mine" - probably the first of his songs that I had known - managed to surpass the hit version by Boz Scaggs in quality. "Next Time I Fall" is also superior (IMHO) to the duet version by Peter Cetera and Amy Grant, which I always thought was brilliant as it was.
A great artist, and one this collection has made me very interested in investigating much more thoroughly.
Great stuff.......2001-10-19
What can I say? You get all the great stuff here. Classics like "What You Won't Do For Love", "All or Nothing at All", and "Heart of Mine" are here, as well as newer songs like "Without Your Love" and "Cry". There's also two brand new songs, including the catchy and uplifting "Every Time You Say My Name".
Now I can only hope that he would like to release a 3rd part Anthology album (maybe titled "Timeless"?), with songs like:
1. Back to You
2. First Time
3. Don't Give Me Bad News
4. Stuck on You
5. Love Won't Wait
6. Take me Back to Then
7. China
8. Words
9. One Love
10. Walk on by
11. I Don't Want to Lose Your Love,
12. Show Me, and
12. Promise (This song is just so sweeet!)
These are the best of him, I hope he knows it. I heard that he's going to release a new album in 2002...can't wait to hear it!

A bright diamond.......2004-04-29
Roomful of Blues has demonstrated throughout the years to be one of the best blues bands around. However I believe that their "First Album" is their best album ever. This is just a magnificent collection of great blues, jazz tinted songs. There is something about this album that no matter how hard you try you will never be able to replicate. The atmosphere and the feeling are so, how to say, they are so "unique" that they make this work stands out. Duke Robillard guitar playing and singing are simply outstanding and Al Coply piano playing has probably never been so good. So if you know and love the band's sound and you don't have this one you should rush and buy it, if you never heard about them this his the right CD to start with and I bet...in a matter of weeks you will be ending having the full collection!
First album.......2003-06-05
If you know Roomful, you know how the band has gone through stylistic changes over the years. This album, the first Roomful album, seemed to define their style through the upcoming Ronnie Earl days as well - a blues band that swings, is not limited to Chicago or Texas styles, embraces Kansas City, and has that great big horn section. Seems like the current lineup (see the new 2003 album) is returning to this style (it swings!), but extends it further (following a years-long post-Piccolo interlude with other front men and musical styles). The first Roomful album also contains a cameo one-song appearance by Duke's hometown tenor sax man Scott Hamilton, a jazz player of significant note. Check out Hamilton's many albums - he's a monster player in his chosen style. The first Roomful album was my introduction to Roomful, and I recommend it to you as a first introduction, or to broaden your appreciation of the band (if for some reason you haven't hear it yet). Nothing outlandish, but all solid. Get it.
A MUST Own CD.......2003-05-21
What a gem of an album. This is well crafted, horn-backed blues with hollow body guitar in the lead. Duke Robilliard is at his best on both vocals and guitar. Al Copley is sensational on blues piano as well. All ten songs work well together and move from fast to slow, moody to upbeat. I have never had someone listen to this and not buy it for themselves...now here's YOUR chance!
Roomful Smokin' out of the Gate!.......2003-02-22
This is an incredible big band blues album. From the very get go Roomful were a force to be reckoned with. Its leader Duke Robillard is red hot! And the band follows in kind. A cornerstone modern blues album for sure.

What a discovery! I vaguely remember Bobby Caldwell from my sixth grade days, back in 1991, when he did a duet with Marilyn Scott, "Back to You". That song was just beautiful and timeless. Then recently, I heard "Real Thing" on the radio, and I instantly fell in love with it and can't stop playing it in my head! I did some research on the net, and found out that he has released many albums before, even before I was born... So I ran to the nearest CD store, and bought Timeline (too bad his CDs are hard to find here), so that way I get to hear all the greatest hits from him... And what a great CD it is!
Here's some of my favorites:
1. Real Thing: no wonder it's a big hit, especially here in Asia. It's very catchy and very uplifting.
2. Don't Ask My Neighbor: a great song, you can't help but sing along.
3. Let It Be Me: another classic song, but it's different when Bobby sing it.
4. Once upon a Time: a very romantic song, just listen to the melody.
5. Don't Lead Me On: a unique "doo-wop" style, we don't hear it often nowadays.
6. Baby, It's Cold Outside: a marvelous duet between Bobby and Vanessa Williams, another uplifting song.
7. Good to Me: a brand new song and a very touching one.
But these are just some of his masterpieces. To get the "real thing", you simply MUST BUY this CD! You won't regret it!

New breed of Male Vocalist.......2007-06-14
Good production and selection of material. Although not as popular as Michael Buble, Caldwell has the technique down well. I'm not familiar with his other recordings, so this may be an exception to his usual style.
Weary.......2006-02-08
I grow weary of those who complain that Caldwell "sounds like a Sinatra". Bobby shares the same background as Eckstine, and Torme' in that they were Jazz musicians before they hit it as singers. Of course their intonation is improvisational, but anyone listening to Indian Summer (my favorite) on this CD and thinking that Sinatra would sound the same is poorly mistaken. Bobby has good "ideas" in the jargon of the Jazz musician. Don't fault him for that.
Great Crooner!.......2005-09-28
Bobby Caldwell has come the closest I can find to a modern Frank Sinatra. His voice is smooth and full!
The choice of material on this cd is great and Bobby's voice does all of them justice!
I would encourage everyone to give this one a try, especially those out there who like Frank, Mel Torme or any of that sort.
Superb Standards Album by a Fabulous Soul Singer.......2005-07-25
On the heels of Bobby Caldwell's knockout live big band performance on "Jazz Central" on the BET Jazz Cable Channel, this studio CD arrived with most of the same songs and arrangements intact from that sizzling hour-long TV appearance. So I bought it. And what a magnificent CD, it is. We're seen a bevy of singing stars doing their "standards" albums to extend their careers, but many have fallen short of the mark because they floated on the surface of those beloved Tin Pan Alley songs. Not so with Caldwell, he gets INSIDE of each song, physically and musically, with the same 'flare for the dramatic' that helped Sinatra, Bennett, Darin and others sell these songs. And Bobby's great big band and exceptional arrangements elevate this CD into the 'Must Have' category for any music fan. My Pieces D'Resistance: "Beyond the Sea", "Come Rain or Come Shine", and "The Best is Yet to Come".
Not only that, this is Caldwell's second CD in this genre following another fabulous big band "standards" CD called "Blue Condition" from 1996, which contains killer versions of "I Concentrate on You", "Don't Worry About Me" and "Street of Dreams" as well as a "Girl I Dream About" that is simply sensational.
Look for the repeated telecasts of that BET Jazz Central appearance and you'll want both "Come Rain or Come Shine" AND "Blue Condition" too. Bobby has continued to develop his style, since his R&B mega-hit "What You Won't Do For Love". This blue-eyed soul meister is a natural for the 'standards' and he doesn't compromise his voice and phrasing to imitate anyone. Even Alicia Keyes and Lou Rawls gush over Bobby's performances. And don't miss Bobby on the concert circuit, especially with his former protege' smooth alto saxist Dave Koz.
What a dandy album!.......2004-01-05
In this album, old and good songs seem to have been revived by Bobby's excellent vocals which touch a chord within us. when I listen to Frank.S.(such as "The Rat Pack"), it reminds me of old&good days of USA, but when I listen to this album, I feel something "today" on the gorgeous bigband jazz tunes, even though some of these songs use the same arrangement as Frank's original style's. When Bobby sings these masterpieces, these become Bobby's love songs, his vocal sounds like the picture of his heart there. So I feel the breath from all the songs. It lets this album be something contemporary ....... That's amazing! This album shows us he is a really superb vocalist.Good songs are succeeded like Bobby, like telling story.... What a dandy album he made!

Erasmus Hall Doo-Woppers.......2007-04-28
I went to Erasmus Hall High School with Kenny Vance. He led the boy's group of singers and I led a girl's. We sang in those wonderful resonant old marble hallways inbetween classes, going from one to the other. How fortunate we were to be there at the beginning of the Doo Wop and Rock & Roll eras! One of our classmates was Bobby Fischer, the chess genius, and another one was Barbra Streisand. They were probably the two oddest pupils in the school. Check out "Her Name is Barbra" by Randall Riese, paperback version, pgs.42-43. The OTHER Barbara
A Religous Experience.......2006-12-20
This is a religious experience! These guys are Doo-Wop saints. They sing Doo-Wop hymns. They capture it all - the sound and their story - the story of their time - 1955+.
I have not enjoyed a record this much in a very long time.
Found my Echo.......2006-11-04
I like doo wop music. I grew up with it and it really touches my heart. This CD takes me through so many of my life experiences. The group, Kenny and all the rest are like dear, close, loving friends. Their music is superb. I will buy more of their CDs. I hope they never stop their marvelous work.
FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL,.......2006-09-26
This CD is a breath of fresh air. I would Recommend it to all my friends. These guys are fantastic. It brings back memories of a simple and fun life here in America. Can't wait to get the DVD. I love all the songs, but one especially, Looking for an Echo. The CD should be a 10 stars instead of 5.
5 stars for "Looking for an Echo-cd" 1 star for Amazon's customer service.......2006-06-27
I ordered this item on 6/7/06 for my dad as a gift for Father's Day. He LOVES it. I also ordered the vhs and dvd so he can watch it anywhere. The vhs showed up right away since that was from an outside vendor. The cd got here just in time (6/15/06) since I changed my shipping method. The dvd order however, has been hanging in limbo. First I wasn't even informed of the delay until I logged on the week before father's day. Then, I realized what was up and split the order so the cd would get here on time. Had to pay extra shipping charges for this. Have contacted Amazon several times in an attempt to get credited for this since they never notified me of this delay to begin with. Have heard nothing back from them. While I'm pleased with the gift, I am not so pleased with Amazon's customer service related to this order.

....If you don't know Bobby Caldwell by now, GET TO KNOW HIM!!.......2006-06-22
I can't say this is his best, only because Bobby puts it down every single time!!! But if you can get your hands on this CD and you are a lover of R&B(I mean the good stuff) and a lover of Jazz with a hint of Latin flavor...just a hint, you owe it to yourself to own this one -You'll see what I mean. I just saw him perform at a Jazzfest in Baltimore and next week I'm going to see him in NYC on the CD 101.9 Jazz cruise. At the Jazz fest, What this man did to the song 'What you won't do for love' was incredible! he put a whole new twist on it -took it to another level, sort of the way he did it on the Timeline album. I cannot stop playing the Perfect Island nights CD. I mean he just puts you in that "I need to be sitting on a tropical island" mood. The CD will take you to another place. If that's what he was setting out to do, mission accomplished! If this is any help to you, Tracks 1, 3, 5...hell, just play the entire CD...TRUST me you will luuuuuuv it.
If you love Salsa like me or any type of sexy-move your hips type music, The song Donna (Track 3 is Muy Caliente -VERY HOT!)
Bobby has done it again!!!
Bobby C. If you ever stumble across this review...
THANK YOU. YOU ARE THE MAN!

Perfect Island Nights is Perfect!.......2005-11-09
I fell in love with Bobby Caldwell's voice and writing style, the moment I heard, "What You Won't Do For Love" almost thirty years ago. I've been following him ever since. I've loved much of his work, but nothing seemed to compare to "Heart of Mine." That is, until "Perfect Island Nights." Like "Heart of Mine," it's one of the few CDs im my collection that won't let me skip over a single track. It's that good. Bobby can wear his heart on his sleeve like no other. He teeters at times on the edge of cliche, but he never crosses that line. His arrangements are impeccable. And his harmonies rival artists like the Beach Boys and Chicago. If this CD were an LP, I would have worn it out already.

Customer Reviews:
CD's of Bobby Caldwell.......2007-03-13
CD's were in excellent condition and wonderful. Those of you how love Sinatra will LOVE Bobby Caldwell! He is awesome. Thank you for the great price and condition! I'll order again.
Just sit and listen? NO WAY!.......2006-04-08
Listen to this guy do "I Get a Kick Out of You", with that powerful orchestra right behind him, both components absolutely on point-and I will defy you to hold yourself still.
This man has a great, strong voice harnessed by very fine control.
I feel a little useless and bored writing this review, because what I'd much rather be doing I can't do here in Lizard Lick-and that's hearing Bobby Caldwell live, where there's a great dance floor and some very stylish company, ladies who know how to move and won't mind dancing with a guy who's never learned how to do it properly.
If you liked Sinatra, listen to Caldwell. He delivers. And the orchestra is stunning. There's a lot of power and life in this collection.
Fabulous Standard Performances by a Great Singer.......2005-07-25
Five stars indeed! Bobby delivers killer big band performances of these exceptional Tin Pan Alley/Pop classics. Other artists take note, this is how you do these songs!! The big band and arrangements are exceptional.
As I mentioned in the review of the equally wonderful "Come Rain or Come Shine" CD, many of these songs were heard on a live performance by Bobby on the BET Jazz Channel that was jaw-dropping in it's intensity. My Mom was so floored by the TV appearance (which is still being replayed in 2005 on the BET Jazz channel's "Jazz Central" show) that she asked me to buy his music. She'll get both "Blue Condition" and "Come Rain or Come Shine": one for Christmas and one for her birthday.
The Pieces D'Resistance are versions of "I Concentrate on You", "Don't Worry About Me" and "Street of Dreams" as well as a "Girl I Dream About" that is simply sensational.
This blue-eyed soul meister is a natural for the standards and he doesn't compromise his voice and phrasing to imitate anyone. Even Alicia Keyes makes no secret that Bobby is one of her many influences. Hearing the great Lou Rawls gush over Bobby's performance on the BET Jazz Channel says all you need to know about the music that was later recorded on this CD. Bobby has come along way since his mega-R&B hit "What You Won't Do For Love" and this CD is a sizzling example of how he has expanded his repertoire' beyond 'blue-eyed soul'. Thank you, Bobby for some truly memorable big band music.

BOBBY CALDWELL DOESN'T NEED TO TRY TO SOUND LIKE ANYONE ELSE.
HE IS BOBBY CALDWELL. THAT'S ALL WE NEED TO KNOW. HE STANDS ON HIS OWN MERIT....

Well done.......2003-12-10
I can't quite understand the criticism that's been leveled at Bobby Caldwell for "Blue Condition" and "Come Rain, Come Shine". Some complain that the arrangments are unoriginal, that the songs belong to Sinatra, Darin and others, that Caldwell copies Sinatra's phrasing, that Caldwell's voice doesn't measure up to Sinatra's or those of the other singers of these songs. As these criticisms relate to "BC":
1) The arrangements aren't groundbreaking, and maybe they owe a debt of gratitude to those arrangers of the past. With those concessions, I find the arrangements extremely solid, reasonably interesting but not obtrusive. And the orchestra delivers them with an extremely professional touch.
2) These are great songs, and as long as contemporary artists respect them and the singers who popularized them, what's the problem? Caldwell is extremely respectful of the songs and the singers, and that's all that needs to be said.
3) I've listened to a fair share of Sinatra recordings, and the thing that stands out most is his unique (and at times even peculiar) phrasing. Caldwell could try for a million years to copy it and never succeed. If anything, Caldwell is guilty of straight forward phrasing. Why anyone would think Caldwell is ripping off Sinatra's phrasing is beyond me.
4) Caldwell's voice doesn't measure up to Sinatra's? I'm not so sure. What made Sinatra unique was his phrasing and his style, part of which was visual. It wasn't necessarily his vocal qualities. If you listen to Sinatra for awhile you'll notice that his pitch isn't always perfect. I don't think the same criticism applies to Caldwell. Caldwell possesses very good pitch, a smooth, silky tone and good control throughout his range. Caldwell's voice bears a striking resemblance to Bobby Darin's, which tells you all you need to know.
"Blue Condition" is a respectful, classy and satisfying record, and I recommend it.

Mellow Moonglow.......2007-01-11
This is a very, very mellow album featuring two of today's top jazz guitarists, Pizzarelli and Frank Vignola. Vignola does most of the soloing, which is minimal, but the interplay between the two artists is worth the price of admission.
Raining on the Parade.......2006-08-28
Well, 2 1/2 stars, but that isn't an option.
I hate to disagree with the other reviewers of this CD who seem to think it is wonderful. I'll meet then halfway, and say that Bucky Pizzarelli is wonderful. As for Frank Vignola? He demonstrates a very tinny and nasally tone throughout. Some people like this timbre; I'm not one of them!!
Overall it reminds me of that John Denver recording from the 80's, "Perhaps Love", where Johnny D joins up with Placido Domingo. John does fine in his own element, but once Maestro Domingo enters, the difference in skill level is painfully evident. Same here: Vignola is probably fine on his own, but put him up against a legend like Pizzarelli, and he ends up coming across as the proverbial "chopped liver".
The liner notes by Joel Dorn are entertaining, if not relevant, except to demonstrate the writer's love of Italian cuisine.
Great Guitar.......2006-03-14
This CD makes one want more and more. It's my new favorite. I highly recommend this one.
Best Guitar Album I Own.......2006-02-18
I've never written a review for any CD, but felt I must for this album. I own loads of guitar albums - of all genres - and Moonglow is head and shoulders above the rest. It's absolutely sublime. You will fall in love with this CD.
