Three albums into Tegan & Sara's career, it's still somehow necessary to get a couple of facts about them out of the way before diving into their latest offering. They are, yes, identical twin lesbians, and they do occupy the space--more like a vacuum, really--between the riot-grrl menace of Sleater-Kinney and the un-fun folk of Indigo Girls. That out of the way, So Jealous is the duo's best disc yet, meriting more than the mainstream notice that has so far evaded it. All the components are in place: a beyond synthy, full-throttle band, including John Collins and David Carswell of New Pornographers, and songwriting so honest as to make a person--any person--check to make sure no one has been snooping in her diary ("I won't mistake you for problems with me/I won't let my moods ruin this you'll see," from "I Won't Be Left"). The vibe is early-80s pop-punky (Tegan & Sara's singing can sound like Missing Persons' minus the squeals) spiked with a rock'n'roll edge--if the title track were noisier, it might sound at home on a Yeah Yeah Yeahs disc. Destined for hugeness, if only in indie circles for now, Tegan & Sara provide something crucial for pop princesses to be So Jealous of, and that's genuine talent. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
SO JEALOUS is the follow up to Tegan and Sara's critically acclaimed 2002 release IF IT WAS YOU. The band toured with Ryan Adams, Ben Folds, and Hot Hot Heat, were featured on MTV's YOU HEAR IT FIRST and hosted 120 Minutes and generated a huge press buzz.SO JEALOUS is the next musical evolution for Tegan and Sara and finds them delving into new musical territory. Tracks such as "Walking With A Ghost," "I Bet It Stung," "We Didn't Do It," and "Speak Slow" find the girls hitting a new level of maturity in their songwriting. A special enhanced portion features a behind-the-scenes documentary.

My Favorite CD of 2004.......2007-03-30
"You Wouldn't Like Me" really blows me away: beginning with some six-string strumming and just a single voice, the song builds up until in the end it resembles a pop triumph.
The great thing about Tegan & Sara is that they come up with great melodies and then stay on melody. No extra trills or frills.
The contributions from New Pornographers' members just make this disc all the more interesting.
If you like more obscure folk pop, the kind you just might not hear while shopping at your favorite natural health foods store, you owe it to yourself to search this out.

Another Collection You Wonr Find Anywhere else.......2003-05-06
Continuing their unique practice of giving us both well known hits and impossible to find rarities, Eric presents Volume 2 of "Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals". This one is, in my opinion, even better than the first.
First off, the sound quality of this disk is ASTOUNDING. ERIC has gotten the various reissue departments to provide them with absolute first generation mono and stereo masters and this CD proves it. The aural quality is breathtaking. The fact that Orchestral music is so beautifully suited for true stereo playback is exhibited here, as a whopping 15 of the 20 tracks are True Stereo and sound magnificent.
There are, of course, the big soundtrack hits here, like 'The Day The Rains Came" "Rocky", "Ben Casey", "Theme from The Apartment", and " Nadias Theme". All top 30 and well remembered. However, for this 43 year old fan, it was the some of the lessor known tracks, in particulatr the 1963 Colpix low level charter "Theme From The Long Ships" that really makes this collection the gem that it is. Outstanding tracks include "Theme From The Sundowners" , "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "I Will Follow Him" , all tracks that will suddenly sound familiar again after first listen.
Therein lies the BEST part of this collection. When you put this on your player, you will be treated to a nostalgic feast,
a time when the magic of Orchestral music still ruled the charts, and existed in all our homes. And you'll certainly remember most of these once you hear them, which is the fun part!!
There arent enough great things I can say about this collection AND its sister CD "Hard To Find pop Instrumentals- Part 2" I personally liked this volume better, but if you dont have either yet, give yourself a musical treat, and some REAL listening enjoyment and pick these up...
Its listening the way it used to be.

Doris Day - Perfect Casting!.......2007-05-09
Usually, Hollywood gets it wrong. They denied Ethel Merman for "Gypsy" and hired Rosalind Russell, who could not sing; they bypassed Julie Andrews for "My Fair Lady" and hired movie star, Audrey Hepburn, who also couldn't sing and Carol Lawrence was told "you're out and Natalie Wood is in" when "West Side Story" came to the screen. Natalie couldn't sing either. Marnie Nixon's voice was used for both Wood and Hepburn and Lisa Kirk's voice subbed for Russell.
With Doris Day, they got everything: a top movie star, an expert singer , a trained dancer and skilled actress. Plus, she was beautiful and took full command of the role of Babe. I just wish they had kept "The Man Who Invented Love" in the picture. I've never seen a Day musical in which she didn't have a couple of ballads of her own. In this film, they attempted to right that wrong with "Invented Love" but dropped it so that Doris could reprise "Hey There" for historical purposes. They wanted Day on film singing that legendary song.
Overall, a wonderful transition from stage to screen.

Day sings it better, however the Broadway cast album has better sound as well as an overture and three songs, "A New Town is a Blue Town", "Her Is" and "Think of the Time I save" were dropped from the movie.
The soundtrack album, however, includes extended dance music from "I'll Never Be Jealous again" and "Once-a-year-day" and despite the boxy Warner Bros soundtage sound, the music is given a lively performance.

In contrast to the parade of guest stars who grace most of his late-period career album, Jealous is a down-and-dirty effort from Hooker's seasoned tour band. Outstanding Musical Score.......2006-08-09
One of those rare exceptions..........2006-03-14
Carlo Siliotto's score manages to capture both Frank Castle and the Punisher while keeping the atmosphere of the comic books. At times frightening and speedy, at other times melodramatically slow, almost kitschy. Almost.
Unlike the movie, the soundtrack works.
Great Movie + Great Score.......2005-12-07
"While I was writing this music, it was exciting for me to mix such diverse elements as sadness and hope, along with love and darkness, with jealousy and friendship, all combined with bad memories and good memories which, 'Can save your live.' And this quote from the movie has been the key to helping me to create the soundtrack.
I hope my music is something The Punisher would appreciate and feel like its part of his own character."

The above section is from a letter written by Carlo Siliotto to the Director, Jonathan Hensleigh. The letter in it's entirety is included in the Score Booklet.

Wow Joe really suprised me with this album. There's not one skippable track thus making it a classic. Production is top notch and Joe's flow and lyrics again make the tracks banging. Definitely check this out if your a fan of his, Terror Squad or New York hip-hop.
Fat Joe's Key Sucess Back In '95 [4 stars].......2006-05-19
The album starts off with no gimmics, as KRS-One is the first to rhyme as he introduces the album on "Bronx Tale". He keeps his grimy, street type flow momentum on most of the album as the L.E.S. produced "Fat Joe's In Town" and "Respect Mine" with the help of Wu-Tang's Raekwon who borrows a line from C.R.E.A.M. and uses it as the hook. Primo was busy too as he produced the better version of "Success" and "The S*** Is Real" both nice tracks. Joe himself would get behind the boards himseld and produce "Dedication" as he gives thanks to a lot of people. The album would finish off with the song "Bronx Keeps Creating It."
Most of this album is filled with real nice production some of an early/young Fat Joe's lyrics. I'd say the only two tracks I didn't like that much (not saying they were bad, put pushed the album in another direction) was "Envy" that uses elements from Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" and the origonal "Sucess." But other than that this album holds its own. I recommend this to fans of Fat Joe's work probably up until the year 2000, because this was one of his best albums.

Solid Album From Fat Joe, 4 Stars.......2006-10-31
I think Joe finally started to realize.......2005-07-31
Come on, it's not that bad.......2005-07-27
The first few songs are nothing special really, they sound like everything else Joe has ever done in his career. "We Thuggin'" is good, with R. Kelly, strong track, there's a remix here too. "What's Luv" with Ashanti and Ja Rule was a good track too, I like the production. "Get The Hell On With That" was good too, Ludacris does a good job as a guest. A lot of the other songs are pretty forgettable, but if you listen to them, a lot of them are okay and he makes some good raps on them. Joe is pretty tight here and his career only got better from this point.
Fat Joe is not a great rapper by any means, and Terror Squad isn't amazing either, but through the years they've made some good tracks and collaborated well, and "J.O.S.E" was no exception. 50 Cent should leave Joe the heck alone because Joe has been around longer and is true to his roots, not like 50. This album isn't really worth buying unless you're a TS fan, but there are some good songs on it.

Based on the novel 7-1/2 Cents by Richard Bissell, The Pajama Game hit Broadway in May 1954 and ran over 1,000 performances. The plot revolves around a labor dispute at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory, with two couples (Eddie Foy Jr. and Carol Haney, John Raitt and Janis Paige) in the middle of it. The score, by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, includes Raitt's classic ballad "Hey There" (dueting with himself as recorded on a dictation machine), the humorous "Think of the Time I Save," and "Steam Heat" and "Hernando's Hideaway," both set to memorable choreography by a Broadway novice named Bob Fosse. The following year, the Adler-Ross-Fosse team would team up again with Damn Yankees. The 2000 remastered version of The Pajama Game features vastly improved sound and bonus tracks taken from a 1954 radio show: Raitt's "The World Around Us" (dropped from the show) and Raitt and Paige's "There Once Was a Man," both with a rehearsal pianist, and Adler and Ross themselves singing "Hernando's Hideaway" with Ross at the piano. --David Horiuchi

Just Like I Remeber When I was Young.......2006-07-27
More is less........2004-08-15
The movie retained all of the original cast leads except for Janis Paige as Babe (replaced by Doris Day.) Day sings Babe's songs better, so your choice between the cast album and the movie soundtrack will depend on whether you need the whole score or not.
As for ths reissue...once again Sony has done a first-rate job. The sound is full bodied and rich, though necessarily mono, and the package includes some well-written liner notes.
A great recording, with the best cast, but..........2004-05-03
This recording of The Pajama Game, a remastered version on the original cast, has VASTLY improved sound and some great extra tracks. Despite the new tracks, though, a lot of the score is completley missing from this recording, and a lot of the songs have been abridged, cutting out dialogue sections and a lot of dance music, like the wonderful "Jealousy Ballet" number, but the loss can be both a blessing and a curse.
The cast is the best recorded, in my opinion.
John Raitt as Sid - I'm not sure if this show was Raitt's star turn or Carousel was, but regardless, he is a fantastic talent and it really shows on this recording. His solos on this recording are superior to any other renditions. "Hey There", "A New Town Is a Blue Town", and "There Once Was a Man"(my personal favorite) are just fantastic. Great all around.
Janis Paige as Babe - Ok...she grows on you. If Paige is not singing in a more characterized voice, than she needs to be shot because she sounds like a wounded animal, BUT for the role her funky voice is very well suited. Her belt voice doesn't use much vibrato or any classical broadway norms, but her much grittier voice brings a more "real" feel to her character. "I'm Not At All In Love" is great and her comedic-like turn in "There Once Was a Man" is also fantastic.
Eddie Foy Jr. as Hines - I just recently finished performing as Hines in a production of "The Pajama Game" so I know the role well. Foy is my favorite recorded Hines, he has such a different voice and personality to his character that simply cannot be imitated. It's a shame so much of his role was cut from the movie. "I'll Never Be Jealous Again" is pleasantly comic, "Think Of The Time I Save" is cute and pleasant, and the opening is also great. An excellent performance.
Carol Haney as Gladys - Gladys is THE show stealing role of "The Pajama Game", and the underrated and underused Carol Haney stole this production way back when. Haney is cooky, lovable, and on stage, a fantastic dancer. Haney stepped into the role originally envisioned for Gwen Verdon and made it the role it is today, funny and wonderful. Haney sings two of the show's classics, "Steam Heat"(the best recorded), and "Hernando's Hideaway" both totally wonderful.
Stanley Prager as Prez - A really great performance. Prager gives a rough, growling voice to Prez and it comes off as a great perfomance. "Her Is" is great, as is "Seven and A Half Cents"(although Prager's voice humorously cracks in mid-verse). A good performance.
Reta Shaw as Mabel - Can't pull off a cute and perverted old lady any other way. Shaw's performance is solid in "I'll Never Be Jealous Again" with Foy. Pleasant to listen to.
Well, all in all, this recording, though very abridged, has the best cast and is just as good as a choice for a recording of the show. Both is better, but for casual and curious listeners, this one beats the London cast. For those who really want the full score, go London. If I had to pick the superior, I would very reluctantly choose this one(reluctantly, due to the abridged score and Ms. Paige. One thing is for sure, every theater lover must own a copy of this wonderful show.
Excellent musical...one of the best.......2003-05-28
I also have to _deeply_ disagree with Mr. Stuart Howard, and to suggest that he in fact has no idea what he is talking about. All the musicals he said were "more important" than the Pajama Game only seem that way because they have been revived time and again. "Pajama Game" simply had the bad luck to become hopelessly dated due to cultural changes, and thus nearly impossible to revive successfully. Still, I personally think "Hernando's hideaway" and "Think of the time I save" still qualify as modern classics, and certainly it's hard to argue that "Once-a-year-day" hasn't been absorbed into our cultural consciousness.
As for Ms. Paige, I _love_ her cynical, witty delivery and extremely unique voice and style of singing, and I tend to believe that anyone who can't see her appeal has, to be blunt, outlandishly poor taste in music.
I love the Pajama Game, and, incidentally, I _highly recommend this CD. John Raitt's voice is a little cold, but it is also amazingly beautiful. The three comedy relief roles will all have you howling, Janice Paige is, as stated before, a genius, and unlike in my musicals, the songs will give you a sufficient idea of not only the story, but the characters...and "The Pajama Game" has deeper and more complex characters than any of the other old-fashioned musical comedies I can think of.
