The Seiko I love best.......2002-01-20

I bought this album when it was first released to Canada in '84. It was probably good timing, I was just beginning to go steady with the woman who was later to be my wife, and so there was a certain positive spontaneity that went with the time. I had already fallen in love with things Japanese and music was the next step. However, as time wore on, this album stayed with me, surviving all the musical trends that came, mesmerised, dwindled and vanished. Unlike many other singers, Seiko's pronunciation is clear and crisp and impossible to miss.

I think what I really enjoy is Seiko's enthusiasm - and it seems to come through best on this album. The Japanese girl everyone has dreamed about. She's had a sad life over time, as we all have had, I suppose, but it is so nice to kick back and listen to the woman with the little girl's voice and the stars in her eyes, and remember that there is still a wistful, hopeful perspective to life somewhere in our hearts.
