I CAN REALLY DIG IT, SO WILL YOU.......2007-06-20
I RECENTLY PURCHASED AROUND 1000 WORLD MUSIC CDS AND HAVE THEM ALL IN MY COMPUTER AND I PLAY THEM ON RANDOM -- EVERY TIME I HEAR A REALLY COOL SONG THAT I SIMPLY MUST STOP WHAT I'M WORKING ON TO INVESTIGATE WHAT IT IS, 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 IT TURNS OUT TO BE ONE OF THE SONGS ON ONE OF THE 4 TANTRA LOUNGE CDS I HAVE. I FELT COMPELLED TO WRITE A REVIEW BECAUSE I TOOK A CHANCE IN BUYING ALL THE WORLD CDS I HAVE TO EXPANSE MY LISTENING HORIZONS AND REALLY WANT TO PROMOTE HOW MUCH I LIKE THIS LABEL.
Nearly perfect.......2007-03-06
It's a rare time when you listen to a CD without knowing what to expect short of a general categorial association with Thievery Corporation, and find some of the most moody, breathtaking beats and melodies to ever grace your ears. Yes, it's that good. Not perfect, there are a few tracks that I usually will skip over, and some of these tracks do tend to break the trance you're in. But what a trance! When the collection of songs are at their best, you may drop into a daze and start invisioning secluded mountain villages deep in the Himalayas. Relax, this is perfectly natural, don't fight it. Some of my favorites: Aini, Raga, Shiva, and Beauty and the East, are just about the greatest things to come out of southeast Asia in... well, ever. And I haven't even listened to the other Tantra Lounge albums yet. Looking forward to it though.
they got this one right.......2006-09-09
I have the first two albums in the Tantra Lounge series, and found that they seem to lack something. I could never define what, but I wound up not really listening to them.
This one is completely different. Whatever they were missing, they found it. From the moment I heard the sample of "The Baghdad Groove" I knew I had to buy it. I went on to discover more gems like "Beauty and the East", "Ohm", and "Mystic Caravan". Of course it also never hurts to include some of my favorite artists (Thievery Corporation and Natacha Atlas).
Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised with this album. The only songs I'm not immediately in love with are "Raga" and "Flight 828", but that's just personal taste. I hope they continue choosing songs of this quality for future compilations!
STUNNING! .......2006-06-19
I was absolutely thrilled to learned of the fourth entry in the "Tantra Lounge" series. I already had the third one and have been enjoying it since I got it in October of 2005. Now with the fourth entry, the series takes on yet a new color altogether. The fourth entry in the series takes the series on a more romantic, slightly more acoustic, turn with the tracks having a more jazz-oriented sound and away from the electronica of the previous entry. Although slightly shorter in length, being at 75 minutes versus over 79 minutes as was the third one, "Tantra Lounge Volume 4" has more than enough great music to satisfy one's tastes in adventurous music.
Major beauties include the opening track "Aini" by an artist/group called Akim El Sikameya which has beautiful keyboard arrangements before blossoming into an exotic danceable track.

Upbeat Zen.......2007-01-09
If you like upbeat Zen type music, this album and the sequels are pretty good.
Simply incredible! There are no words to describe it!.......2006-06-17
I was totally mesmerized at what came out of my headphones when I popped in this CD. Granted, it was the first of this series that I've bought and it costed me almost an entire 20 dollar bill but it was absolutlely worth the price.
Tantriffic!.......2005-09-22
This is a very nice compliation of electronic music in south asian themes. It's all real music and the editor managed to avoid tedious repetitive music. All cuts are densely layered pieces that you can listen to over and over. It's real music, too, not some computerized elevator music. If you like dancable lounge and chillout with a mysterious south asian and middle-eastern themes, then this is your album.

3Excellent sophomore entry in the series!.......2006-09-25
The second entry in the series is much more electronic and exotic with a more mainstream appeal throughout. "Calcutta" is a beautiful song as well as "Eastern Dawn" and "Matter". The 1991 remix of Jhoole Jhoole by the late Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan is my favorite track on this CD. Highly recommended.
Excellent Indian Lounge & Trip Hop.......2006-03-25
All too often, what purports to be "Indian/South Asian" lounge is just some soft noddling music or New Agey music with some sitars and tablas dropped in - and they call it a day.
This however is a great collection of real Indian musicians or at least musicians who really appreciate and understand Indian music ... and of course, real lounge & trip hop music.
About 50% of the CD are definitely cool, exotic lounge - about 50% of the tracks really fall under the definition of Indian trip hop and not really lounge. They are still excellent tracks and if your music horizons are broad - they are excellent Indian trip hop tracks - just be aware they are not all 'lounge or chill tracks.'
The last two tracks are really New Age or old school ambient techno ... they don't hold up as well as the other tracks but overall, an excellent collection of world class tracks.
3rd times a charm... don't miss this one.......2005-01-16
I got a copy of this off a coworker and it didn't strike me on first listen... though kept it around due to the names associated (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Thievery Corporation et.al.). Through it on my ipod and over the next 6 weeks it would show up in my random shuffle and would rarely get skipped. It is now something that I actively go and turn on (versus just in the rotation) and has become a favorite. This is definitely in the same vein as the Outcaste Newbreed collections. Give it a go..

Good equlibre between West and East.......2003-11-28
This lounge collection it's very nice and it's very simple.
Each song is in equlibre between the indian (oriental and arabic in general) and the western sound.
No esasperet sounds from India no boring tribal music with mystic voices.
It's for sure a lounge music cd with oriental influence...not a new age cd for meditation and relax.
All the cd it's of top level, in particular :
Nitin Shawhney - Sunset
Transglobal Underground - Vanilka ....(even 6 stars!!)
DJ Cheb I Sabbah - Shri Durga
but really great also Lemongrass, James Asher and Digital Blend.
Dont' worry you can put this Cd in all the occasion don't only when you would like to be oriental oriented...
Better than a Bhudda bar...for sure!
Medicore.......2003-11-14
Ok selection of music, but definitely not the best out there. There are better blends of eastern/Indian and electronica. For something that's supposedly an exotic mix of music, it's fairly bland. That said, it's got some good music on it, but for the money there's better to be had.
The group Lumin are great, as is Six Degrees' Arabian Travels 2. If you're looking for something with an Eastern flavor to it, I'd recommend those over this collection. I believe you can find both here at Amazon.
Like It !!!.......2003-10-15
I don't know what basis people use for deciding how they want to rate a CD. I like this CD. It's been my constant listening companion since I purchased it 3 days ago. I know that eventually I'll be ready to start listening to other artists but I find this CD very pleasurable to listen to. There are plenty of songs on this CD that make my body want to move and that's what is important to me, does my body want to move to the rhythm. No, I don't feel that way about every song but I'm more than happy to listen to the songs that don't inspire movement.
