If you know Twiggy only for her modeling and acting talents, you will find her song stylings a tremendously worthwhile surprise. She delivers her material with a compelling, credible authority that you will absolutely adore.

And if you're already familiar with Twiggy's wonderfully charming renditions of Gershwin and Coward standards -- such as those found on the highly recommended soundtracks of "If Love Were All," "My One and Only" and "The Boyfriend" -- the Twiggy you encounter on this CD will be a further revelation.

On "Midnight Blue" she has applied her remarkable interpretive abilities to contemporary music, and the results are, to say the least, stunning!

From standout versions of '60s pop anthems ("Be My Baby," "Needles And Pins" and "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow," for instance) to terrific interpretations of rock music of a more recent vintage ("Diamond," "Johnny and Mary" or "The First Cut Is The Deepest"), the tracks have an extraordinary freshness and sparkle. "Arabian Nights" is highly hypnotic, and virtually all of the songs demand repeated listenings.

Carly Simon contributes background vocals on the opening track, and additional support comes from highly professional producers, imaginative arrangers and strong musicians.

Twiggy's a Great Singer!.......2003-08-21

"Midnight Blue" is an excellent compilation of her 80s recordings which are featured on CD for the first time. Twiggy's vocal abilities show an increased power and range since her earlier recordings in the 70s. While Twiggy has always been a fine singer and an interpreter of songs, her foray into musical theatre, "If Love Were All", "My One and Only", and the brilliant album "London Pride" already showed that Twiggy has a true gift as a singer. It is refreshing that this CD brings her back to pop music.
There are covers of some of her favourite songs of the 60s and Twiggy makes them her own while still being true to the originals. "Baby I Love You", "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", and an amazing rendition of "The First Cut Is the Deepest" are all sung with pathos and sincerity. This is definitely Twiggy's gift as an artist: she puts herself into a song with true feeling. Included is a superb duet with Leo Sayer, "Save the Last Dance For Me" and a haunting rendition of "End of The World" which is unforgettable.
This is not an album of covers; there are many superb new songs and most are uptempo such as the brilliant opening track "Stay" with Carly Simon audible on back up, "Johnny and Mary", "Temptation", "Hiding From The Eyes of Love", and "Nervous Tension" which is a great dance number. The title track is another song that lingers in the mind long after hearing it and it is a beautiful song. "Midnight Blue" is a song to be played again and again. The entire album is to be played again and again. Twiggy. The name still brings to mind images of a model who entered into the public eye during the British Invasion. She was only a model for four years and she has done so much more as an actress and singer. Once this sublime CD is on the earlier image is forgotten and her talent as a singer who is gifted with a unique and beautiful voice will carry the listener to who Twiggy has evolved into: A truly talented woman of Today! "Midnight Blue" is a CD to be enjoyed again and again. It deserves the five star rating. Enjoy!!!

Of course you knew about Twiggy and her world-famous stint as a fashion model... but did you know she is a legitimate stage star, seasoned in such musicals as "Me & my Girl" and "The Boyfriend"? Yes... Lesley Hornby, a/k/a Twiggy [Lawson] is a major icon with a talent of her own that is tangible in this CD.

Including music from all sort of revues from the West End, including a marvelous rendering of a little-known Porter song "The Physician" --which, if you listen closely to the words is... hilarious!- this record is the showcase of a great talent, and if you love musicals, this is definitely for you.

I have always liked Twiggy's voice,and the years have shown that she just gets better and better. She was not born a singer,she has worked at it, and it shows.Her renditions of "Dancing On the Ceiling","If Love Were All",and "Once You Lose Your Heart"are sheer magic.Twiggy has done country,rock,and other styles of music.This is but one fine example of a lovely lilting voice that will charm you with a wide range of songs that come from a wide range of London musicals. "On My Own" is superb.Twiggy has proven herself to be far more than a 60s icon. She is a fine actress and this album is proof that she is a very fine singer. Like show tunes? Then buy this CD, you will enjoy the wide array of fine songs by a very fine artist.She sings from her heart and that makes this album such a gem.

not disappointing at all.......1999-03-07

This is very good. Most broadway CDs are not as good as this one and not as intreging. I'm new to the music world but this is one piece I love and think everybody who is interested in broadway music should own. It was a plesure to listen to this CD. Others I have listened to have not had good selections or a bigger variety. I am very proud to give this magnificent Cd 5 stars.

Listening to it now.......2005-03-10

I just got this in yeterday along with 2 others i orderd. I absolutly love it. I have been a manson song for as long as i can remember and i love to hear there music portraid so well. Although there are some songs that i thought could have been added , i still love the songs they coverd.

No Title.......2004-02-27

This CD is pretty good, but, as has been said by quite a few people, the song choices could have been better. They should have just completely left out the PoaAF songs, as they don't go to strings well. "A Place in the Dirt" and "Speed of Pain" were great choices because they fit the style of the insturments playing the parts, "The Nobodies" and "Man That You Fear" may have been other selections they may have wanted to put on the CD. Other than that, the CD was fantastic.

its ok but............2003-10-08

i dont know, the idea of doing a string version of manson's greatest songs is a damn good idea. However, it was not pulled off as well as id hoped. when listening to these tracks, i always got the feeling that something was missing, while each song is tabbed to near perfection, the overall package still seemed kind of cheap.

i dont know if its the musician's fault, bad or equipment or just simply done intentionally, alot of the string insturements give off a scratchy tone while leading which does not sound good.

another complain is the choice of songs, some were great choices, but when leading mansons vocal parts, the melody becomes bland and makes you wish that that part was just taken out.

overall, lots of effort was put into this and it is good, but just feels like much more could have been done

My thought on the Cd.......2003-06-20

In this CD Marilyn Manson Portrays a different Image, I myself have been a Manson fan since the 7th grade, this CD gives his musci new meanings and shows he truly is an ecclectic Artist when he can take his area of hard gothic rock and transform it to this wonderful symphony. I highly consider all Manson Fans to purchase this Item.

The album cover is very... stupid, to be blunt. It's really not what I think of when I think of these songs or Marilyn Manson but the string covers are excellent, despite the fact that these songs are probably the most repetitive or weakest choices they could have made excepting the 'Place In The Dirt' song. Most of them are overplayed and outplayed in concert, or done to death in live albums, dvds, vhs, or cover cds, well, here they are again! It doesn't breathe new life into songs that have lost their magic some years ago, but it's fun for awhile. There could easily have been more music or better selection. ...
