I will forever be grateful to Nikos Xilouris' son, who owns the best record shop in Athens and introduced me to his father's music...

This Nikos Xilouris' recording is a masterpiece of Cretan-Greek music, accessible to one who can't understand a word...(and many Greek speakers themselves have great difficulty deciphering the dialect). The music is muscular, urgent, intense, committed. It reminds me most of Bob Dylan's "Desire" sessions and second Rolling Thunder Review tour. Maybe, Ronnie Lane's Passing Show touring circus. Vagabonds, Troubadours, making passionate music with insistent beats behind raving chants, intent on awakening the gods to their pleas--for love, for justice, for forgiveness. Lyra, Laouto, tamborine, violin, guitar, and muscular baseline combine to create a whirling alchemy that you will gladly surrender yourself to--if but for forty-minutes at a turn. Take a chance...if you are one of the few that seek music that gazes into the abyss and reaches for immortality and unadulterated integrity.

this is one of the best greek cd;s i have ever heard, a lot of people dont like it because the dont understand what the guy is singing about. just give it a shot and pay attention to the lyrics!!!!!!!!!

The name Zilouris is connected with cretan music, which is very very different from greek music. Especially the lyra is an outstanding feature in cretan music. This record is nothing of the kind, just ordinary boring greek music.
I'm very disappointed and will never again buy a cd, when there is no possibility to listen to samples.
