Surprise,surprise, surprise!.......2007-05-09

I bought this album listed as Bossa Nova Loung-American chill out. I thought it would be various artists. But, happily no! Imagine flying into Grand Rapids, Michigan or Des Moines, Iowa on a sales trip. Tired at the end of a day you go into the bar there at the Doubletree Hotel and walk into the lounge. It has that hokie turning disco ball and everything is colored fire wagon red. You note a small trio who's guitarist is quite a tasty jazz man and then that voice. Sensual, evanescent Bossa nova treatments of great American standards by Maria Augusto. The dozen or so patrons and the lounge staff move over to the band as every one is mesmerized by this Sambalera in Des Moines-of all places. I never heard of Maria Augusta before, and I do not know the band's names. Shame on you for no liner notes! This woman is a bitchin' singer. I don't know where she is from nor where she is gong, but this band and Ms. Maria got it going on. A greatly enjoyable cd.
