Listening to this CD over and over and over and over...etc........2007-07-05
It's become a part of my daily routine. There was some love and passion when this CD was made!
Ram Ram Ram Ram .......2007-03-28
Another wonderful set of cd's from Krishna Das. The chanting is beautiful, the music sublime...It doesn't get any better than this. Another beautiful CD from a Master. My fiance and I have gotten addicted to Krishna Das & listen to his CD's every morning. You can't explain perfection.....you just listen and enjoy.
moving into peace.......2007-01-19
I own a yoga studio and teach several times a week. Krishna Das' music is always a favorite, but this CD in particular is perfect for a lively, upbeat yoga practice. My students connect with the beat, helping them move smoothly through the poses, connecting with their breath. As the chants become slower, more meditative, the practice also begins to slow. It is a wonderful transition for any yoga class. I highly recommend it!
Beautiful!.......2007-01-10
This is my first experience with Krishna Das. I've enjoyed listening to this CD very much. I feel calm during and after I listen to the beautiful voices.
greatest hits krishna das.......2007-01-10
A great package with the bonus dvd.The music is sublime and lets you be taken away with the chants. The bonus dvd is as equally impressive with a visually enthusiastic crowd totally involved in building some chants to spine tingling conclusions....highly recommended.

If you love Krishna Das ..........2007-05-13
I need say no more.
If you havn't heard him then this is a good place to start.
Somewhat relaxing but mostly monotonous and dreary.......2007-03-31
I am new to Krishna Das. I first remember hearing a song by him on a chill out compilation a few years ago. What stood out for me was his deep, rich voice. I recently found a copy of his "Door of Faith" cd at my local library and thought it would be a good introduction to his music. For the most part I found "Door of Faith" to be very relaxing to listen to especially on a rainy Saturday morning with a steaming cup of coffee. My favorite track on the cd has to be "Sita's Prayer/Hey Mata Durga". Unfortunately this cd gets awfully monotonous because of Krishna's vocals within half way through the cd. It doesn't help that some of the songs are over several minutes long. The music is beautiful and I do like Krishna's deep, sensuous vocals but I think the cd would have been even better had the songs been edited.
Chanting for mind, body and soul.......2007-01-11
I've listened to Krishna Das in reverse order (from most recent recordings to this one). His voice is amazing, the chanting so soothing. One of my favorites.
Ever-New Bliss.......2006-07-29
There are many adjectives the might describe this CD - warm, soothing, inspiring, simple, complex, gentle, comforting, melodic - but they would simply demonstrate that music, and this music in particular, is beyond words. It is balm to the soul and body.
Compelling; Heartful; Genuine.......2005-07-24
I consider myself a novice when it comes to Sanskrit Mantra, chanting, and the legends of Hindu Deities. All I can offer is the personal experience of listening to Krishna Das and his chanting. It is subtle, compelling, provoking, emotive, truthful, devoted, and inspiring. I purchased this CD on the blind, having never listened to any of the songs on it before, not knowing about the Shiva Stuti or Hanuman Chaleesa. I was just getting used to Krishna Das's Hits of the Kali Yuga when being fortunate enough to attend a Kirtan, "Door of Faith" was there too.
I've listened to these chants almost daily for the last few months, and its not like conventional songs where they become repetitive - these songs, using words of power, just keep building the internal vibration of love and compassion.
You don't have to be a Hindu, or practice Yoga, or even know Sanskrit words (the CD comes with a FULL listing of the words plus background notes) to get benefit from these songs. My kids automatically chant along now and miss it when its not being played.
Yes - it does pull at the heart, and yes - from time to time it does instill tears. If you want something groovy and light - this is not for you. But if you want something deep and resonant, powerfully drawing you into Love, then this Bhakti Yoga CD (devotion) is 62 minutes of pure bliss.
You don't have to spend thousands of dollars going to India to get the real thing. Just light some incense, a candle or two, grab a cushion, some hankerchiefs, and open your heart. Can't wait for Krishna Das's next compilation.
Shambo Sadaa Shiva!

Soothing.......2005-03-25
Planet Yoga, a two-CD set of Indian chants songs and ambient creates the perfect environment for the practice of yoga, exercise, contemplation and relaxation. The first CD is designed as an accompaniment to yoga. The second CD in the collection is designed to enhance relaxation and meditative practices by presenting an ambient soundscape that creates a space that engenders a vibration of peace.
This is one of the most relaxing CD's you'll find. This is a great CD to listen to on the way home after a long, stressful day at work.
Two great differing discs.......2005-01-27
These two discs will make a welcome addition to a collection of music used for Yoga and contemplation. The first disc offers music with lots of melodic pulse. The second disc is much more mellow and beautiful in its own way. The various artists featured are all great. They are my favorites! You'll benefit from the artistry of Deva Premal, Jai Uttal, Drala and much more. You can't go wrong with this compilation.

The legendary guru Bhagavan Das is known as the Wildman of Kirtan, which is an ecstatic brand of call-and-response chanting. The holy man has published three books, but Now is his first proper album of chants set to music. With Beastie Boy Mike D producing, arranging, and cowriting this album, never has chanting sounded so hip. Das's vocal mantras in ancient Sanskrit--and occasionally English--are well complimented by highly textured drum 'n' bass programming. D has also brought in live musicians, on modern and ancient instruments, to make the ever-shifting integration of ancient and modern sounds a smooth and hypnotic one. If the album's opening call to prayer isn't an obvious enough clue, this is religious music, and one can hear and feel the ecstasy in Das's voice as he chants and riffs. Interestingly, Das and D reference gospel on "Shiva Gospel" and the blues on "Shiva Shambho" with equally interesting results. This album should surprise many if they take the time to check it out. --Tad Hendrickson

chanting, rock & roll and devotion.......2007-03-28
I liked this CD. I'm always looking for new meditation and chanting tapes. Sometimes these are so quiet they can put you to sleep - which is fine - but this is a CD for ACTIVE meditation. The chanting is great and the music is infectious...a really great CD.
Stirring, Exciting, Modern and Traditional all at once!.......2007-03-14
I am ECSTATIC about this album!!
I did not realize that it was mixed by Mike D at the time that I purchased it. I just sampled a few of the songs, thought it was beautiful and would fit in well with my devotional music and purchased it. I was awed by the beautiful and respectfully resplendant blending of gospel and blues on "Shiva Gospel" and "Shiva Shambho" - it truely puts you in the mindspace that ALL is GOD, no matter what tradition you prefer to follow. I could listen to this album all day, and often do!
The beats and grooves by Mike D make this a wonderful addition to the modern music library, without lessening the spiritual impact one bit.
Uplifting and Memorable listening.......2005-09-05
I had the pleasure of meeting Bhagavan Das at store in Asheville, NC, where he was promoting his CD. He spoke enthusiatically of the CD and his work with the Beastie Boys. I purchased the CD (he autographed it as well) and took it home not sure what to expect. I thoroughly enjoy listening to the music - it's upbeat and catchy. I've played the CD while working and found myself humming along. If I ever see Bhagavan Das again it would be my pleasure to tell him Now has become of my favorite CDs.
BEYOND HIP!.......2005-05-22
FANTASTIC! BEAUTIFUL!! CREATIVE!!! EXPRESSIVE!!! ORIGINAL!!! INSPIRING!!!
GET IT!!!
It didn't feel like chanting to me.......2004-11-09
I have listened to a variety of chanters from the Christian, Native American, Sufi and (like Bhagavan Das) Indian traditions. What strikes me about the chanting tradition is that it is the voice which is the primary instrument which must be the vehicle of this music. This CD has such a sophisticated sound mixing of the various instruments, and also highlights the instruments, to the point that the voice is simply part of the mix. I find the Vedic/Sanskrit chanting of Krishna Das, Wah, etc. to really put the voice out front even when a bunch of instruments are playing, and that allows the listener to key into the words (or more easily chant along), which strikes me as the point of chanting unless you just want it as some background music.
This is not a bad album, but it just feels overproduced and a bit slick. It did raise my interest enough to want to hear him live and in a rawer form.

Inspired and Beautiful.......2007-07-16
A wonderful collaboration between two authentic spiritual musicians. I have loved Sultan Khan's musicianship and singing for years, and I have enjoyed chanting Kirtan with Krishna Das for years. I was surprised when I saw this collaboration between them as I thought of these musicians being in very different categories --- but it works!
There is obvious musical respect and rapport between the two. Ty Burhoe's tabla is wonderful, the guitar work seems out of context, but the overall album feels deep and inspired. Sultan Khan is the obvious Maestro here, but doesn't drown out Krishna Das's contribution.
Dissapointed.......2005-07-12
I hate to give a bad review, especially for talanted musicians, but this album is unsatisfying. After reading listeners' reviews from this and other sites, I decided to purchase this CD. What a dissapointment. If you want to own music by Sultan Khan, look elsewhere.
Although Khan's playing is, at places, soulful, there are too few inspired moments. Those places where the music begins to soar are unfortunately disrupted too frequently by distracting chanting and resitation by Krishna Das. Although I think Das' first album (One Track Heart)is excellent, here his presence fails to add anything inspiring. Rather, he chants the same old, tired melodies that he has already sung on numerous other recordings. Kahn's singing, although not at a professional level, at least sounds more authentic and heartfelt.
This could have been a much more enjoyable CD if they would have left out the singing. Perhaps I am a little too harsh giving only one star, but this CD will be an (expensive) dust collector in my music rack. Bottom line, IMO, if you want traditional Indian music that stirs the soul, skip the distracted efforts here and buy music recorded for a traditional Indian audence.
AS smooth as they can get.......2004-08-14
Ustad Sultan Khan is back with another classic interpretation of sarangi music at its best. Joined with Krishna Das an individual i have not come to imbrace musically. But Ustad set him on fire and both burn up each and every track on this glorious spiritual gem. The songs are filled with ustads classic lamented slow soothing playing for about 8min or so with krishna acompaning with beautifle poetry in english and in tongue or singing in tongue (ustad is also a featured singer. Then Krishna will accompany him with an oud or guitar and classical tablas fill the room with glorious harmony. This is a more subdued and slow album not fast and kaotic, very tranquel like a soft water current, perfect for deep meditation. Slow in the way the gopal shankar album on realworld is. This is the best album from ustad ive heard yet, except for the tabla beat science records the live one especially. enjoy

Customer Reviews:
Transporting.......2007-07-03
In my world, we do a lot of energy work without trying to fall into more popular trends within the New Age movement. Nawang Kechog, much like Nakai, exudes inspiration without having to force anything. He is already connected and channeling. This particular album can literally transport you to faraway lands whether you are on a massage table or in the bathtub. It is also the album that receives the greatest amount of comments from visitors. If you are looking for music 'from the source' that can 'take you away from it all,' this would be the album.
Free Tibet!.......2002-02-07
I have never been to Tibet (at least as of this writing), but having listened to this CD I can say that I have journeyed there in spirit. Karuna is the Sanskrit word for compassion and that is the essence of this music. Playing Tibetan flutes and various instruments from cultures outside of Tibet (African, Native American)Nawang Khechog creates a powerful yet serene aural experience, augmented with authentic nature sounds and, ocassionally, the chanting of Tibetan Monks. Synthesizers - played by Kitaro on a couple of tracks - do not intrude upon the "real" feel of this music. If my description raises flags of New Age cheesiness in your mind, relax - this is (to use the word again) real music with real heart.
As this disc spins just close your eyes and I swear you will feel the cool breezes blowing down from the Himalayas to kiss your face.

I love this CD and it is one of my most played. It is a mood lightener, a soul soother and eases my heart. I very highly recommend it!
Sonic support for the beauty of asana.......2004-06-04
As their most recent product offering, Yoga Journal, in collaboration with M Path, have shared this exquisite CD of music. Designed for the Yoga Journal Step-by-Step series, this music has a life of its own, separate from the videos. It segues beautifully, one track to the next, creating an elegant sonic ambience for an asana practice.
The opening track, Om Kar, sets the tone. Atmospheric drones, sitar strums, and violin swirl together, just as an asana practice begins with the breath. The music becomes more textured, with a deep bass note added, and then it begins to slide forward, like the movements of the spine in Surya Namaskar, with caressing drum beats. The undulating pulse of the song opens up both the spine and the heart. Graceful, the next track, builds the energy, adding electric guitars and more active percussion that underlie the beginnings of strong poses (maybe the Standing Sequence from Ashtanga, maybe something else).
Standout vocal tracks include Hey Gopal, Mantrika, and Ghanadarva. Hey Gopal has a sensual vocal track above a woodwind, percussion, and synthesizer base. A langurous invocation to Krishna and Radhe - "Hey Govinda, Hey Gopala; Radhe Shyam Bolo" - slinks out of the space. Mantrika, featuring the incomparable Krishna Das, features his gravelly baritone over a sensual tabla rhythm. Chanting deep and low, the whole piece feels like a trance dance song. "Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram" runs the chorus, and then it goes back into the deep sonic realms. Ghanadarva just makes me smile: it has this frolicking rhythm which accentuates the rolling pulse of the chant: "Hare Shiva Shankara, Shambo Shankara, Hare Bom, Hare Bom, Bom Bom Bolo." It just sounds so happy. It's like an Anusara moment, and you just want to dance, or do a handstand, or chant along. It opens you up to the playful energy of the spirit.
Jai Ambe begins to wind down the practice, and in perfect fashion, the last song of the 60 odd minute recording brings you back to the opening song. What was once energizing is now relaxing -- Surya Namaskar to Savasana. This CD is a partner is the journey of an asana practice, and it will not disappoint!
Pleasant enough background music.......2004-05-14
This is the kind of CD that you pop into the deck for that after work wind down. It doesn't ask much of you - sorta yoga muzak/elevator music. It's okay, but if I had listened to the whole CD before I plunked down my money, I probably would have just checked it out from the library. Hey, I'll sell you my copy if you are still interested in purchasing - It's practically brand new.

kama Sutra.......2007-04-11
I thought this was a good CD, I tend to like music form all over the world. I found a few songs to be great. Some songs on it I wasn't too impressed with. Over all it was a good CD I listen to it to relax and even to get me in the mood.
Actually it gets 4.5 stars..........2004-10-15
This is a very wonderful cd...the cover art is lovely and the music is relaxing... I know it is music for the Kama Sutra, but I slip this cd in on my way to work, and I have a good day every time! So, it is not only for intimate moments!
I only gave it 4.5 stars cause it does get a tad bit repetitive towards the end, and I don't care for the last 4 songs as much as the first 3. Yes, there are only 7 songs on this cd, however, they are all pretty long. There is a lot of native instruments of India used on this cd, and there is some beautiful singing and vocalizing on all tracks. It does take you away from the everyday, and can be used as a relaxing tool for meditation...or anything else you want to use it for...
Try it, you'll love it!

Customer Reviews:
Cleared Fatigue in less than one month!!! Wonderful set of cds!.......2005-10-25
I was absolutely amazed how quickly the fatique I was feeling turned around after using these techniques. Not only do I have more energy, but I am also dropping weight and eating better. I have more energy to exercise and have been finding that I can get through the day without a nap anymore and have much energy to spare. I really enjoyed the cds. I have used some of the techniques and others I have chosen not to use, but I still am acheiving great results. I also enjoyed listening to Chopra's voice. It has a very soothing, relaxing appeal. He has a charming accent and a nice demeanor. Thanks so much for creating the program, I'm sure it will change my life!!!
