Best of French pop/rock.......2004-01-10

This is one of the most original recordings ever to come out of French pop/rock. I first heard the single of "Il voyage en solitaire" on the radio when I was backpacking through France and Morocco in the summer of 1975. I love its haunting melody and the lyrics are definitely a couple notches above most of what comes out of this genre in any country.

The other tracks still retain a certain freshness, a nice blend of 60ish psychedelia and the usual dose of French music-hall. Whenever I have French guests over for dinner and I play this CD, it always elicits a few nostalgic sighs, as they all have fond memories of this recording. Strongly recommended.

During a visit in Paris 1984.......I've heard this wonderful record in an recordshop. I still can't understand a France word but I can "feel" the experince of what the songs are about. Have since then try to bought everything about Gerard Manset.......Still looking for more........Enjoy this CD and let a new "world" of French music please You...........(***)

Everyone knows he is slow..........1999-02-08

The 1974 historical record by French artist Gerard Manset has already been overcommented, though not that much out of France.

The lyrics are splendid and subtle, the music is always arty and moving at the same time.

The songs on the album are pure masterpieces, all of them.

It is sad that Manset didn't keep one of the original songs, namely UN HOMME ETRANGE. It was a nice pseudo-autobiographical attempt, with typically Mansetian undertones!

As a kind of compensation, I've decided to unearth the lyrics of this song, so as to save it from oblivion.
