Half good and half bad.......2002-04-06

I was quite excited to get this CD in the mail this afternoon. I immediatly opened the package, and popped the disk in the CD player. The first 13 tracks are wonderful. The organs used sound wonderful, and the organists handle them very well. The 3 tunes by Nicholas Martin are the best in my opinion. Once I got to track 14 I was in shock. The artist Brian Sharp made a complete mockery out of this majestic instrument. I have never been so utterly dissapointed and enraged! In addition to the "magical WurliTzer" of the Tower ballroom in Blackpool, U.K., a variety of (pathetic) synthesized sounds were added. These include a big band, a piano (not too bad), a drum set and 'fanfare trumpets.' They sound very cheesy (my 1975 Allen could sound better!) and ruin the music. I think the artist was going for the Wurlitzer band organ effect, but REALLY missed. I'm actually considering making a GOOD copy of the CD without these songs!
The last few tracks are at least pure WurliTzer, but it's only a small 3/8. Seems like the artist couldn't set the pistons, becuase he doesn't change his registration much at all. There's the addition of some tibias and suttle color reeds here and there, but it lacks interest (just like this review!). It needs a nice big and bold Post Horn or Tuba.
All in all, it's not a bad CD, and worth the price for the first 13 tracks. Just keep the remote for the CD player handy so you can skip over tracks 14 through 18!
