Yuval Shomron, The Messianic Times, September 2002
LRosh Pina's an honor to the Chief Cornerstone Himself. I'm sure He's enjoying it. So will you.
Product Description
Zemer Levav's new CD begins as a Messianic madrigal. I can think of no other way to describe it. After an exceptional a capella beginning, Middle Eastern folk instruments join in to complete a Mediterranean picture. Harmony, lots of it, in tune and creative, is plentiful throughout this album. I would have appreciated a male voice being added here or there to give strength. However no one can complain about either the vocal or instrumental arrangements, which are professional in sound yet not overproduced. The tempos vary creatively, from the rightfully somber "Kol Nidre" to the joyful upbeat "Doorkeeper." My favorite track is "The Telling" which recounts the story of Passover from a personal view. Shimrit and Mark have obviously raised their children right. This family of "Levites" seems to be overflowing with talent. Shalisha and Kerah join their mother on vocals, and Adrielle and Liorah concentrate on percussion with Dad, who also handles guitar, oud, and bass. The smart addition of Les Morrison to the group brings an extra touch of musicality to the project. His virtuoso violin playing throughout the CD is always perfectly fitting to the mood of each song. Our emotions are pulled across the strings with the long laments of his bow or into the dance of his pizzicato. Except for Joel Chernoff's well known "Shema Yisrael" the songs are written by Shimrit. The packaging is abundant with good photos and lyrics and gives a glimpse into the family's character.
