Assembled by modern classical composer Aldo Brizzi, the 12 tracks on Brizzi Do Brasil feature the cream of Brazil's popular music scene with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Virginia Rodrigues, Tom Ze, and Carlinhos Brown making up a partial list contributers. The moody music is steeped in the Brazilian music tradition with shades of jazz harmonics, other world music genres, ambient electronica and avant-garde fusions added. The Italian composer/arranger is obviously very smitten with the music and players, and it lends the project an idealized quality where the ardent optimism leads to smoldering beauty of romance's first blush. Most of the tracks are slow and moody, as if performed al fresco in the hot tropical night--never more than on Virginia Rodrigues and Nuno Guerreiro's lilting duet "Velada ou Revelada." An album of remarkable ambition and scope, Brizzi Do Brasil is a beautiful musical romance that ranks as one of the best Brazilian albums to come out in 2004. --Tad Hendrickson

2 out of 5 stars For hardcore completists only.......2004-12-27

If you are not a hardcore completist fan of one of the artists on this CD, I most strongly advise against buying it. The singing on this album is fine throughout. Unfortunately, the music is not. Even calling it music is at times a stretch. Virginia Rodrigues and Nuno Guerreiro (of Ala Dos Namorados, who also appear on the last track of the CD) sound absolutely terrific together, but Brizzi weaves bits of Olodum's percussion into and out of the song. It does not work at all and Olodum, a terrific band, sound like they are keeping a completely different rhythm from the singers. The fact that Tom Ze is on this CD says a lot about it. Ze is a holdover from the 1960's, but he was never very popular in Brazil. He's pretty odd and in my opinion he's the worst artist David Byrne ever tried to promote. Even the great Gilberto Gil can barely make his song listenable. I would suggest listening to the audio samples before buying it. If you're into avant garde electronica, maybe you'll like it, but for me, this was a collosal waste of money. It's certainly not the worst CD I've ever heard, but it's very weak and I think 2 stars is fair.

5 out of 5 stars Worlds Music!.......2003-01-02

Caetano Veloso, Teresa Salgueiro, Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos Brown, Virginia Rodrigues and many other are more than special guests in this album.
Their interpretation of original songs of the composer and pruducer Aldo Brizzi are very strong and intesive.

5 out of 5 stars BRIZZI DO BRASIL.......2003-01-02

This album is the second one of the Italian composer Aldo Brizzi (and not "the first one of the Portuguese singer" as is written on the official review). 12 marvellous original songs for special guests such us Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Teresa Salgueiro (the vocalist of Madredeus), Carlinhos Brown, Virginia Rodrigues, Arnaldo Antunes, Tom Zé, Olodum, Ala dos Namorados, Zeca Baleiro, Margareth Menezes. This album is about the pleasure of listening to unexpected sounds mixed togheter, spontaneous melodies, sophisticated messages all hypnotically underlined and strengthened by Afro-American rhythms. The unpredictable fusion, the constant surprises, all blend with Brazilian popular music, electronic effects and sampled tracks.
