Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This may sound like a manifesto aimed at saving things of value, because yes, in a world of unlimited communication hysteria, Kroke want us to think about things that are really important in life: "Earth", "Water", "Fire" or "Love", for example, to mention titles on this recording.

Last but not least it should be mentioned that this Kroke CD, like their three previous ones, was produced in Krakow, Poland. This city itself is a symbol of a disappearing world. Krakow's long history provides its lively cultural life with inspiration. Kroke is proof enough of the vitality, variety and ability to innovate what characterises Polish culture today.

5 out of 5 stars Franck: Ave Verum Corpus, Alan Hovhaness (Composer).......2001-05-04

As an amateur pianist, I was awed by the feeling of absolute freedom of spirit this music evoked in me. It is breathtakingly lovely in its haunting simplicity. The music draws you into itself, soaring into heights of joy and falling into hushed depths of winsome poignancy. What a gift Alan Hovhaness has for speaking for and to the human spirit of all that is lovely and delicate and magnificent.

Fantastic music. "Time" is great to dance to--argentine tango--i often play it at milongas and it is always a hit.

5 out of 5 stars A new way in the old world.......2001-05-31

This album is something more than Klezmer music. Kroke are three musicians from Warsaw / Poland that combine a traditional emotion in their music with an intelligence and creativity that achieves something that is truly new. Listening to Kroke demands the ability to let their music flow deep into collective conscience. If ever you have had the desire to fly free in you own fantasy, then this album is your airport. Kroke's music is not easy listening, yet there is a frictionless feeling that lets it slide away. This is music of dreams, old European Jewish dreams and new Global secular dreams. The underlying styles and sounds are the expression of the global world, multi-cultural, alive and kicking, yet still there is the touch of sadness that reminds us of pain both past and present. Thanks to Kroke the world vanishes a little less.

Album Description

This album sets the listener afloat on a musical journey around the world that blends the sounds of endangered animals and habitats with acoustic-driven original compositions inspired by the indigenous rhythms, melodies and instrumentation found in the global family of cultures. It is exquisitely packaged in a deluxe gift box with a 24-page companion booklet that acts as a listener's guide. The music tastefully features actual field recordings of endangered animals from around the world in their natural habitat and builds the music around THEIR vanishing voices.

5 out of 5 stars Unique, Exquisite Sounds of Music & Nature.......2000-07-27

This collection of unique music is an absolute delight. Rarely do you find such a collection that you can enjoy, and that you can learn from as well. The sounds of the instruments, many of which are unique in themselves, are finely woven with animal voices and other sounds from nature to create a fascinating and rich tapestry. I've owned this CD for two years, and listen to it frequently. The packaging is beautiful--and there's much to learn by reading the liner notes and credits. The recording quality is outstanding--many layers of sounds and details all of which are clear. Thanks, Bill Robe, James Donnellan and Thomas Bocci for your exquisite work!

5 out of 5 stars You must hear this CD!.......1999-10-16

Listening to Vanishing Voices is a total experience, too much to write about. Clever songwriting mixed in with digitized animal sounds create the feeling of nature.

Very inspirational and easy to listen to. Also, the companion song booklet contains great artwork and unforgettable quotations. Thi is very high quality and provides a roadmap to experience Vanishing Voices..

I like this music very much and so does my 7 year old daughter!
