Still a Solid Piece.......2005-09-16
Volume 3 was very true to the name "Bossa", as it started off with some nice beats highlighted by DJ Rodriguez's "Peter Pan Syndrome". Montefiori Cocktail's "On a Clear Day", remixed, is another cut that's just a bit over the top cheesy but perfectly acceptable... because it's Irma. It starts out quite beautifully! Another song I really enjoyed was Banda Favela's "Neguinho" - and take notice because the version on Sister Bossa 3 is the full song; meanwhile the one on Banda Favela's feature album fades out! Other good songs to me were Gazzara's "Point of Departure" which'll take you to the 70's, "Os Grillos", "After Pizza" by Sam Paglia, "Sunday Morning Samba" by Italian Secret Service and last but certainly not least... A Ra by Joao Donato. What a song... very nice, a classic.
I definitely recommend this. It's got some pretty solid and fun Bossa. It wasn't without a few missteps... "Snowfield" has a noticeable Nicola Conte Bossa beat to it which made me want to hear "Bossa Per Due" when I heard it. And admittedly there are plenty of cheesy songs, so this may not be a release everyone will enjoy. But if you have a sense of humor and love Italian Bossa, you'll enjoy this release and several others from Irma. Finally... if you do dig this series, you may also like the later issues of "Bossa N'Go" and be on the look-out for Cafe Noir's Bossa series which is a spitting image (literally... sometimes same exact songs, different names) of this one.

Italian Bossa.......2002-12-18
The feel of the album is very cafe-ish. The cd does flow nice, and the feel is bright, lively, and "happy". A few of the tracks, like the ITalian Secret Service's selection, are very cheesy, and I admit I'm not a big fan of the Montefiori Cocktail track included. However, you do find decent samba like gropus and different acts, like Banda Favela and DJ Rodriguez pipes in from the beginning with a "Fantastic Plastic" feeling (IMO) track.
Curiously, in the end of the CD you hear a track which has a percussion line that is 100% Nicola Conte's "Bossa Per Due" - yet with sleighbells in the background and different/male vocals? What was up with that? It's not Bossa Per Due - it is a different song. But if you hear it - you'll know what i mean.
The real gem on this cd - the Joao Donato interpretation of "Ra". It is my favorite of the many that are out there. ALl in all, I would recommend this - if you happen to have "Cafe Noir"'s Cocktail/Lounge, you would like this. It features a few different renditions of the tracks on that cd. NOT the Cafe Noir Bossa Brasil, but the Cafe Noir Cocktail/Lounge. You may also want to check out Eighteenth Street Lounge Jet Society - which is better quality than both, IMO.
