We once drew some lines in black..........2007-06-16
This is truly the defining album for Project 86. I love Project 86 and consider them probably the most underrated band of the past 10 years. This album gave them credibility and they're still rockin hard. If you're interested in Project 86 but not sure where to start, you start right here with Drawing Black Lines.
Pisces King.......2006-03-07
I just went and seen Project 86 live in Ventura California and I can tell you I don't think that Project 86 has "Sold Out" because the turn out was not at all big, and they still played like they were rockin' a stadium arena...So I say who ever does not like Project 86, clean your friggin ears out and listen to what is going on...take a look around you because there is so much more going on that simply having a good time.
Best chapter of the Project.......2005-09-26
I rate their albums best to worst in this order:
Drawing Black Lines
Songs To Burn Your Bridges By
Truthless Heroes
Self Titled
Like all the truly great bands, Project 86 has been able to have a constantly evolving sound that displays excellent musicianship, songwriting, and diversity. Songs like Chimes, Souix Lane Spirits, and Hollow Again are gripping lyrical and musical experiences. They tell a story and provide a soundtrack that sends chills down my spine like few other bands can. I can easily overlook the fact that, like every musician, Project 86 has changed their style a little as they have experienced life and grown more versatile with their skills. Every one of their albums has been amazing, and though I have high hopes for "And The Rest Will Follow...", Drawing Black Lines is definitely (up to now) that one definitive Project 86 album that sets them far above the competition. Definitely their heaviest and darkest album to date, and the "chill down your spine" factor is up there with the best of them. It is my favorite album behind Tool's Lateralus.
Second best Project 86 album..........2005-05-15
Why Project 86 decided to follow counterparts POD into the abyss known commercially as "selling out" is a complete mystery to me. We all know why they did it: the idea of more money. However, Project 86's type of abrasive and in-your-face sound and lyricism has never been a very marketable one. POD's success depended on their ability to completely tone down their music and message, and create pop-rock songs that spoke to the nation's youth about how to have a good time, yet simultaneously "preached" to them about how much they needed God; POD became the ethnic Creed.
The thing that really bugs me the most about Project 86 was that they were THE band that had the most potential out of POD and them. They had the front man, they had the sound, they had the lyrics. And most of all, they had the conviction that POD seemed to shed away once the idea of more money showed itself. But, sadly, this has gone and Project 86 has lost their edge. But have no fear, they still have Drawing Black Lines and their Self-Titled albums for their fans.
I give Drawing Black Lines four stars because of the tracks Star and Twenty-Three. They are a complete waste of listening time. Scrap both of these songs and you have an album that is arguably harder and better-produced. But because the Self-Titled has not one skippable track, and this album does, I can say without any doubt in my mind that the Self-Titled is better. Also, the lyrics for the Self-Titled are head and shoulders above Drawing Black Line's lyricism. Stars and Twenty-Three are songs that showed Project 86 experimenting with their sound. It didn't work then, and it doesn't work now. On to the tracks.
Tracks 1-6 are the albums meat and potatoes. Those songs are, Stein's Theme, One Armed Man, Me Against Me, PS, Set Me Up, and Chimes. And are up there with anything off of the Self-Titled album. After those six songs, the remaining four songs (I am excluding Star and Twenty-Three) are just good hard-rock songs. Those four songs are, A Toast to My Former Self, Sad Machines, Chapter 2, and Open Hand. The last four are anthemic in nature, as in they repeat themselves alot. Especially the songs Chapter 2 and Open Hand.
All in all, this is a good release. But not as good as the Self-Titled. Also, as I read some of the reviews I noticed a review posted by FunnyBobKavlin stating that the lyrics were about suicide and what not. This is the problem when a band like Project 86 begins the process of selling out, their music starts appealing to people who don't actually listen to the music and the lyrics, but just whether or not it is catchy and mainstream. To correct FunnyBobKavlin. The song in which the character is speaking about slitting wrists, is titled Me Against Me. The line is "Slitting our wrists/running for sympathy" now, I don't expect people like FunnyRobert to get this. This is actually a statement of the nature of human beings. It is about the sinful nature of people. Slitting your wrists and running for sympathy a metaphor for how incredibly self-destructive people are to themselves and those around them, and that after a person does something like this, they always want sympathy from God; they want forgiveness. It is a simple statement of the evil nature of people. FunnyRobert also mentioned a line from the song Chimes. Chimes is about a person who has died and gone to hell and how, when he was alive, everything that his flesh wanted seemed OK. But once he had died he wished he could "rewind the clock and attempt to play back" which means that he wishes he could live his life over again and not do all of the things that were tempting him.
Like I said, this music is not for the masses and it really bugs me that they have tried to make it for the masses. I know they want to get their music and message out, but what a lot of people don't realize is that the majority they are seeking to get their message to are more like FunnyBobKavlin. They don't understand it.
whoa.......2004-10-12
This cd is frickin amazing. I just recently saw them in concert and it reminded me to get this cd out and listen to it Me Against Me is a such an great song. Then again just about everysong on this cd is awesome

Album Description
Take two and a half years, four share-houses, 757 op-shop records, a few thousand dollars lost to dodgy housemates, 2565 hours of community library customer service, 20,000 km of round-Australia travel, countless computer crashes and one critical hard-disk failure, and you have a rough diary for the recording process of the new record by Gotye (pronounced 'gore-ti-yeah'). All sounds on the album were collected and assembled or performed by Wally De Backer in bedrooms around Melbourne between 2003 and 2005, and the record was mixed and mastered by Franc Tetaz (Wolf Creek soundtrack, Machine Translations, Architecture in Helsinki) giving it a beautiful hi-fi depth and brilliance that goes beyond Wally's lo-fi gem Boardface (2004). Musically, it's another mixed bag with a subtle thread holding it all together- alt-pop with a broad sonic and thematic pallette. The moments of frustration, dissatisfaction and sadness rendered in the spacey dubs of Puzzle With A Piece Missing, Thanks For Your Time's electro-funk pop and the sumptuous orchestra sounds of Hearts A Mess are countered by the unbridled positivity of Learnalilgivinanlovin's homage to Northern Soul, A Distinctive Sound's turntablist kook and the after-life meditations of The Only Way, driven by a Bollywood-pop-meets-psychedelic-dancehall groove.

The new King of cut-and-paste.......2007-05-19
Melbourne, Australia is becoming a hotbed of this type of art, what with the Avalanches and Wally/Gauthier "Gotye" de Bakker. The aim is to produce lush, witty, captivating music by clever editing of huge numbers of multilayered samples. Gotye not only succeeds brilliantly, but also affectionately pastiches a huge range of different genres over the tracks of this album. His previous release "Boardface" was good, but sometimes, the pastiches were a little too close to identifiable source tracks. "Like Drawing Blood" is more polished, to the point where the Gotye tracks are more secure in their own identities. Energy levels are generally higher than the first album, too.
For me, the high spots are the beautiful ballad "Heart's a Mess" (which also has an excellent video) and the satirical "Thanks for your Time": truly a song for the early 21st century ("You have been placed in a queue - your call is valuable, it's so very valuable..."). Others may be more smitten with the driving, modal indie rock of "The Only Way", the soul-influenced "Learnalilgivinanlovin", the drums-n-organ-n-fx of "A Distinctive Sound", or the ethereal Europop of "Night Drive", which is reminiscent of Air. But the whole album is highly listenable.
A great eclectic music blend from down under!.......2007-03-24
What a fantastic discovery! Gotye gives digging for good music a name and meaning! Fans of The Blue Nile, Bent and U.N.K.L.E. alike are bound to be satisfied with "Like Drawing Blood". The work of one guy (Wally De Backer), Gotye's sound in this album has a range that is quite unlike most acts you run into.
He sometimes plays reggae ("Puzzle with a Piece Missing"), sometimes pop ("Thanks for Your Time" sounds quite like Justin Timberlake) and then he can come up with a sound like a sixties pop act like does in "Learnalilgivinanlovin". But the real power of the album is where he delivers hip-hop power like Gorillaz would do ("Distinctive Sound", "Seven Hours with a Backseat Driver") or a sound that clearly reminds that of Paul Buchanan (with The Blue Nile), as in "Night Drive" or the closing track.
All in all, it's not your regular cup of coffee, which is great, because the range he covers will keep you entertained all through the album and wanting more of his great music when you are done with it.

When Björk became romantically involved with art-world darling Matthew Barney, the universe seemed to be uniting two of the most idiosyncratic artistic temperaments of the 21st century. The first major artistic product of this union, Drawing Restraint 9, music composed by Björk for Barney's film of the same name, finds their sensibilities eerily complementary. Barney's previous films, the megaton, five-part Cremaster Cycle, astounded audiences with a personal mythology inspired by the biological process of prenatal sexual differentiation, touching themes as unsettlingly diverse as speed metal, auto racing, Freemasonry, and Harry Houdini. Barney, a former model and football player, has always been interested in expressions of physical strain and release. This coincides quite nicely with the work Björk has produced lately, namely her album Medúlla, which was composed entirely of human voices--singing, coughing, grunting, and beatboxing. The intersection of these two artistic geniuses comes at precisely the right time, when Björk has cast off the last vestiges of her dance-floor self. To understand how remarkable a transformation this is, one might try to imagine what it would have been like if Donna Summers had turned into Yoko Ono.
There are instances of Björk's vocal soundscapes on this album, in the unsettling "Pearl" and the rainy and overdubbed opening of "Storm." Other tracks, filled to overflowing with bells and chimes, recall her most beautiful work on Vespertine. It used to be that Björk could chill the spine with a howl. Now she does it with a whisper, and these soft and haunting moments are what reward repeat listenings. With the music she produced for the soundtrack to Dancer in the Dark, Björk followed a more or less traditional narrative thread, stringing the songs together in such a way that one could follow a story even without having seen the movie. It's not quite that simple with Drawing Restraint 9. Without seeing the film, the music suggests a fascination with oceans, Japanese ritual, and the hidden powers of nature. It's spellbinding and confusing music, hinting at greater art to come from two artists of intense creativity and passion. --Ryan Boudinot

Bjork.......2007-05-04
This is a collection of pieces Bjork did for Matt Barney's film titled 'Drawing Restraint 9.' It is much more sparse than her other work, and seems disconnected from her catalouge because of it. That is not to say it is not worth listening to; there certainly are 'moments of shine' in the album. But people starting out on Bjork might want to hear her other albums first, particularly the one which contains the 'moments of shine' lyric: 'Vespertine'
bjork free from pop restraints?.......2007-03-26
i sure hope so! this album/soundtrack is good. it's nice to see an artist take off the glove of pop conformity to create straight-up art for art's sake. if you get bored by this album take some ritalin and chill;there is a time and place for everything. most people couldn't listen to this cd like her other cds:might not want it on the subway or other noisy/hectic situations. PERFECT for walks, the beach, fishing, watching rain, etc. you wouldn't wear a tux to a rodeo;you wouldn't play this at a rodeo.
Why??.......2007-01-10
Yes, I give it 5 stars just because it is Bjork and she can never disappoint me.
I wanted simply to post to say that the people who dismiss this as crap, as well as those who feel that they can comment on what kind of music she made compared to what she makes now are totally missing the point of artistic expression. BJORK IS NOT A POP ARTIST! Get the point. She makes music/art for herself and it is her expression... Whether you like it or not, it is valid as continuation of Bjork's personal pursuit to create.
While many may feel that she has completely left the building, there are many who feel inspired by her willingness to leave the ipodability consideration in the trash is reason enough to applaud the work. Bjork is never strange for strange sake, but neither is she confined by popular opinion or conventions.
KUDOS, my Sister... you are a true hero and we love you...
Listen to it - This is music.......2006-11-25
When I read the Justin A. Kyle comments, it just made me want to say this: you may or may not be a Bjork fan, just listen to this record. It is meant to be a soundtrack, not something they eventually would play on your radio (otherwise just stick to Madonna and Britney). Of course, I guess it requires a little brains, which is not so common here, is it?
I guess not. For those who want to go with the flow, do not buy this cd, for those who are a little more adventurous, give it a try. But again it is not some kind of McDonald's or cheap diner music.
absolutly horrible! (and I'm a big Bjork Fan).......2006-11-14
I love almost everything that Bjork does. Ive seen her get more and more eccentric over the years, but I normally enjoy what she comes up with as she evolves artisticlly. But this CD is too much. Its really, really bad. She only sings on like 3 songs- the rest are (what Im assuming) people grunting to bell chimes. I dont get what she's going for, and I dont understand why she and her record company decided to publish this junk.

Customer Reviews:
I love this CD!.......2001-09-13
I have been searching for a CD to accompany my balloon mime show for a long time, and when I found this, it was a dream come true. The songs are happy sounding, chirpy and fun, especially the souped up version of the PowerHouse. Comes with a burp in front that I could react to! If you like happy sounding instrumental music, this would be it!
Disappointment and irritation.......2000-08-01
This CD contains 16 tracks, some from Walt Disney "Fantasia" and one (track #11) presented as the recording of "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" from the full length cartoon-movie "Melody Time". Beware: it has got nothing to do with that enthusing performance, in boogie-woogie rhythm, by an excellent piano soloist (Freddie Martin? Teddy Wilson?) accompanied by a string-and-winds orchestra. It is, rather, a very banal rendition of Rimsky-Korsakoff's piece. Considering that I ordered this CD just for this piece (I have all others of classical music, from "Fantasia" in excellent recordings, I was disappointed and irritated when I tried to listen to the jazzed-up rendition of RK's music. This is a misrepresentation on part of the label (Sony). I don't think it's casual that the title of this piece, presented on the detail page as track #11 in the "List to Samples" section, disappears altogether from the following section ("On This CD"). If you are keen on Bugs Bunny and other rabbits, go ahead and buy this record. I'll be grateful to anybody (to the tune of $10) who can tell me where I can find a recording of the piece, such as I heard it on "Melody Time".

Amazon.com essential recording
Both a departure and an extension of Sweet Honey in the Rock's trademark mix of political and philosophical statements, Feel Something Drawing Me On serves as the vocal group's tribute to the world's sacred music. Globe-hopping with customary glee, the group includes a handful of gospel songs from the American South, a West African funeral song, and an all-vocal interpretation of folk patron Woody Guthrie's "I've Got to Know." Much is sacred to this expressive a cappella group. The title song comes from the Reverend W. Herbert Brewster, one of America's most distinguished Baptist preachers and songwriters; it captures the album's prevailing jubilance and care. Other gems include the delicate, multilayered American spiritual "In the Upper Room," a stunning rendition of the traditional "Hush L'il Baby," and the moving "Waters of Babylon." --Sally Weinbach

This marks the group's return to its roots. The album includes six classic black hymns, two West African hymns, the gospel-influenced lullaby "Hush Li'l Baby," Jimmy Cliff's Biblical-flavored hit "Rivers of Babylon," and the Woody Guthrie protest song "I've Got to Know," which is based on the hymn "Farther Along." This is the album where you can hear the churchly origins of Sweet Honey in the Rock's harmonies and fervor most clearly. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful and Powerful.......2000-07-25
When someone introduced me to "Sweet Honey," they stuttered over a description - "well, they are 5 African American women plus a woman who signs . . . and they sing gospel, traditonal African and original compositions. They use a few percussion instruments. They sing of love and justice and freedom and life and Jesus." I could not imagine such a mix! But I went to their concert and was mesmerized. If you are looking for a category or a short description, I am not able to offer one. This particular CD of Sweet Honey contains quite a few classic black gospels presented a cappella with the potential to take your breath away. These are powerful women with powerful voices to fill your soul. Sing along and let this music lift your spirit.

Prewar gems from a long-neglected master. Scott's career as composer, bandleader, and electronic-music pioneer is just beginning to be rediscovered. Here he mixes swing jazz with classical forms, exotica (long before there even was such a thing), and his own hyperactive melodies to create a timeless sound. Many of the bouncy tunes are recognizable from their constant use in cartoon soundtracks over the years: the classic "Powerhouse," a jittery mix of an edgy scherzo and a relentless march (as well as a favorite of Looney Toons composer Carl Stalling); the jaunty "The Toy Trumpet"; and the dizzying "Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals." Scott's original recordings with his Quintette (which, strangely enough, consisted of six musicians) are a delight, and the invention and energy never let up. --Heidi MacDonald

A brilliant composer.......1999-09-16
Raymond Scott cannot really be categorized. Constant references to the use of his music in cartoons are unfair. Scott approaches each of his pieces as a total composition, which is why they usually sound so good in even the most trite cover versions. Scott's curiosity about music & musical instruments was insatiable. The compositions on this CD are the core of Scott's art, & the starting point.
Irwin Chusid, this CD's producer, pulled Raymond Scott's music out of obscurity & firmly established him as more than a composer of novelties. See review below for more information on the mastering of this CD.

Perfect music to do stuff to........1999-03-02
If you need music to wash your car, clean the house, bake a cake or juggle to, this is the stuff. These songs were in cartoons and conjur up wacky images in the mind of madcap chases and retarted farm animals with firearms. Holy crap! this is a good cd! Sure, it's a little silly but not in a Puff Daddy way, in a good way! Perfect background music for everyday activities. Excellent driving music. It makes you want to swerve into other cars and run over fire hydrants.
24-bit Digital Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungary Cannibals!.......1998-07-22
It's important to note there are actually 2 different versions of this CD available!! The album, produced by Irwin Chusid with Executive Producer Hal Willner, was originally mastered by Parkinson in Summer 1992 & released on Columbia in December of that year. The 24-bit remastered version allows for a fuller presence in the transfer from metal master to digital format. Meaning: it sounds a lot better, brighter, more alive. There's more bass, & richer textures. "The overall sound is far superior to the first CD issue," Chusid commented. "We continue to be amazed at discovering the bass in these tracks, especially as compared to the CD. "We're doing only light CEDAR-ing [declicking & decrackling]. Most discs are very clean sounding. We found an alternate take of 'Oil Gusher' where the drums are more prominent in the middle section. The performance is comparable to that on the first CD, & we intend to substitute the newly found ver! sion. "Even better is a stunningly different take of 'At An Arabian House Party' -- one of two numbers on the CD by the RS Orchestra -- that features 'comic' horns a la the Quintette in the intro, a great guitar solo in the middle, & a neat tom-tom fill at the end, none of which were on the version used on the '92 release."
Classics You've Never Heard.......1998-05-19
Raymond Scott's compostions have been appropriated by Soul Coughing, Warner Bros., and Ren & Stimpy. Now you can enjoy the originals. Often quite invigorating and imaginative, tracks like "Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals" and "Boy Scout in Switzerland" will be quickly recognizable with the catchy rhythms and swinging reeds that Scott reined in to create his miniature masterpieces.

Sophomore Blues.......2007-02-19
I was really excited about this cd since I fell in love with Christion's first album, "Ghetto Cyrano". However, I was severely disappointed. It doesn't even have as much soul as most songs on the RADIO!!! The beats are generic and boring, lyrics sound forced and you can just tell that these guys are no longer singing about stuff they understand or know about. "My Reason"?!?! That song's just cheesy and I only listen to it for a good laugh. And "Where Yo Girlfriend At"? Again, only for a good laugh. Not sure what happened between the first album and this one (other than Allen Anthony's departure), but things just ain't the same. And GW's right, most of the reviews claiming this is a must-buy are from family members, friends, managers, and other business partners. KNyte had something to do with their silly "Let Em Know" video, I believe. Anyway, I hope y'all find this review helpful....if you want a Christion cd, go for the first one. But hey, everyone has their own taste in music and maybe y'all don't care bout listening to the real..... but if you do, then stay far far away from this cd (unless you just want somethin for laughs).
Different from first but still smooth.......2006-05-17
I have been a fan of christion since they first came out. I do admit that this is some what different from the first in terms of the music. I think what makes the songs good are the story lines. I loaded the cd to my MP3 player with the first and compared and it still keeps that street (pimps and players) style to the songs. There are some good tracks that start on chapaters 4 and on. The rest are something that I would say you have to relate to in order to understand. You can notice the difference of A.A not being in the group. As a matter of fact, the best songs on the cd are when he appears on the track. Overall I would say its not a bad CD but if you compare it to the first that was more for the "grown and sexy" then you would not feel it as much. You can also tell that the touch of Jay-Z is not on this release. He played a big part in the story lines they wrote about while Dame Dash selected the tracks. Out of all the tracks I think most would fall in love with Slown Down, and Broken Streets. "My Reason" should be loaded to your romantic selection. If you are someone that can relate to the stories then by all means you will enjoy the tracks. As for A.A I hear he had an album coming out called Oakland International so lets hope that will entice the hears of the ones missing him.
Whats going on here?.......2006-04-19
First, I was really looking forward to this album. I do understand that people have different tastes but "a must have", and "slammin" and "what music has been missing". I think I found all of the fans that think that American Idol is soulful. This is either a really distasteful joke or its the mothers of the artists leaving comments. Im not trying to rip anyone apart but this album bears "NOT ONE" resemblance of the creativity, the production, and vocals that this group once carried. Ok...so Its different. No big deal. But Im just trying to figure out what these people are listening to. All and all, dont take my word for it. And dont take theirs. Buy it for yourself and Im sure it will become clear on whether this is the last Christion album you buy.
Their may have been a reason for no album in so long.......2006-01-25
The original Roc-A-Fella soul brothers are finally back with an album of smoothed out love songs and up-tempo club jams. The Roc fell apart and they moved on to The Mint and deliver a 20-track album with five chapters and mix results. My first thoughts about this album were that it was too long and that has proven to be true upon repeated listens. The other question I have is what the significance is of the chapters. They are trying to tell a story but the songs in each chapter do not always match up with the chapter's title. As far as the music goes, it's just ok. There are lots of R&B/Soul singers out doin their thing and these two are no different. They have the intense sexual songs (Presidential Suite #8) and they have the love song that goes out to the girl they lost (Farrah #15), did they ever stop and think maybe if they were not out trying to freak every girl they might not have lost that one perfect one? The production is nothing special, Kenni Ski does a decent job pulling double duties as singer and primary beat maker. The one thing that it seems these brothers got goin for em is that they can sing. Their harmonies and verses are generally on point and stand out at times, compared to the rest of today's modern so-called "Soul" singers. If you are looking for some real classic type soul music then go check Bilal, but if you want modern R&B with a touch of the classic seventy's sound this album will probably at least wet your appetite.
WHAT HAPPPENED TO THE CROONERS???.......2005-12-14
Christión did some serious croonin' on their debut release "Ghetto Cyrano", bringing us hustlers-need-love-too anthems and street-life grooves reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield. Now on their very disappointing follow-up "Project Plato", Christión minus vocalist Allen Anthony have become a bit too mainstream for my taste, sounding a lot like these new kids on the block who beg and whine just to make a dime--y'all know who you are!!! Nothing on "Project Plato" grabbed me, although I'm sure with the current condition of music today it will appeal more to the masses. Every song here lyrically sounds ridiculous and the sexiness seems forced, unlike on "Ghetto Cyrano" when it was natural (obviously due to Anthony's absense). I tried listening for a glimmer of hope on this release--a song that made me fall in love with Christión in the first place, but I simply couldn't. Maybe as I listen to "Project Plato" more, it will grow on me, but that's not likely. I know each artist's release has to progress and shouldn't sound dated. I didn't expect Christión to sound the way they did eight years ago, but you gotta admit at least eight years ago--during the Timberland era--music was music and Christión had it goin' on.

What a treat!.......2006-09-21
This CD is a winner! We saw Corey Smith in concert in Columbia, SC. We were impressed with his style, his appeal, and his talent. The show was a sell out! The CD is a true showcase of this incrediblely talented man. My favorite on this CD would be, Harmony. All the songs, are kick back, relax, drive with the top down, or sit on the porch with something cool to drink and ENJOY! He's not in a particular, genre he may not be country, (but he's proud to be his own man!)..
Buy this CD, you will not be disappointed!

totally sick and brutal \m/ \m/.......2005-12-12
i've got this album and two other polvo albums: shapes and today's active lifestyles. shapes is experimental and sounds kind of eastern/psychedelic, and today's active lifestyles is just really good. however, i'd have to say exploded drawing is the best album i've heard from polvo. it starts off with fast canoe, which has a really catchy riff and chord progression. bridesmaid's blues reminds me of the kids in the hall theme by shadowy men on a shadowy planet, but this song rocks in it's own way. feather of forgiveness is a favorite of mine, the lyrics sound very personal and bizarre, and he just gets really weird at the end when he starts singing "i wanna cover you with flowers of forgiveness, i want to TOUCH you with the feather of forgiveness, i wanna wash you in a river of forgiveness, i want to wrap you in the fabric of forgiveness, i wanna put you in a LIGHT that will hurt your eyes..."
exploded drawing is not lacking in the exotic riff department, there's plenty of noise and harmonics and wammy bar discord to go around for any indie kid that's into sonic youth, dinosaur jr, or pavement. there are lots of catchy hooks mixed with experimental indie-punk weirdness, which indeed posses a "math" quality in its delivery.
if you like these guys, be sure to check out shudder to think, shellac, helium, unwound, slint, archers of loaf, modest mouse, chavez, and the other bands i mentioned.
Off tune, just the way I like it........2004-03-10
This cd never gets old to me. It took me many listens to appreciate this cd but once I understood it, I loved it. I have all of Polvos cds and this is my favorite.
Like those puzzles at the mall.......2003-10-21
Most will not understand this or any polvo CD. Like those eye puzzles at the mall, people try for hours to see the Purple Bear. Yet, I have had this CD for many years and cant understand why others think it sounds like noise, or that its missing somthing. However, these albums from Polvo will raise your standards of math rock type music to a peak. So I caution you to buy, because honestly I had to move to a diffrent genre of music.
Polvo are missed........2000-11-16
Polvo: Lots of interesting guitar sounds, time changes, lyrics that make you think. I really enjoy this entire album, but it isn't an "easy" listen. If you do not like to be challenged by your music, do not listen to Polvo. If you're looking for a type of music you've never really heard before, music which will leave you feeling different than before you listened to it, than this is the album for you!
Mood is key.......1999-04-10
A good album. Still, not quite as good as "Today's Active Lifestyles" or "Cor-crane Secret." Mindy is very much correct in declaring the superb sound of "fast canoe," an excellent track. This album is appropriate only when one is in the proper mood. What that mood is depends on the individual.
