Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Original 1978 Recording?.......2007-04-04
AWESOME! John Williams shows again why he's the master of movie scores.......2006-08-31
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.

Heres another one!!!!.......2007-03-02
Fabulous R&B/Soul Christian Group!.......2003-03-05
Lookin' for Love-is a song about finding love in the wrong places where you need to look to the one who made you loves you.
River-tells one that God is always near and He cares for you.
Spirits Moves-God is calling you. Let Him take control. He's got the answer for your life.
Here's My Heart-a love song to God. He can mend your broken heart.
Window-God makes a window to let the light come through. When you feel you're going under when darkness falls. He will make a way.
If You Really Knew-tells one don't do it on your own. God's Love is enough. He's waiting for you.
Tomorrow-it's going to get better. Never give up. Joy comes after the rain.
Open Up Your Heart-The Lord's love is real. He came to set you free. you need the Savior's Touch.
Draw You Near-When you're lost in a world of trouble, heartache and loneliness. He wants to hold you in His arms.
No Turning Back-(title track) God will see you through to overcome the battles. He will show you the way to go.
Sarah Jane-Troubled teens need God's Love, too. The children needs an answer in you. Get out of your world into the situation. Show them the Lord will be the Father they need.
This is a really great album. The rhythms are really up with it. The lyrics really touch the soul and the heart. I recommend this to any Contemporary R&B Christian listener or anyone looking for real music with a true message in a secular world.

"HERE'S MY HEART", "IF YOU REALLY KNEW", "SARAH JANE".......2002-01-30
"Looking For Love" starts things right, with an upbeat sound and a poigniant message (as always). Featuring a guest rap by Gotee labelmate Knowdaverbs, the sound of "Looking For Love" was slightly ahead of its time, resembling singles that both *NSync and Imx would cut months later. Keeping the upbeat feel of the album going, we're taken into "River", a happy-sounding song. An early highlight of the album would have to be "Spirit Moves", which also has a remix on DJ Maj's 'Full Plates Mixtape 002' album released in 2001 - this song is slammin.
"Here's My Heart" is one of the best OOE ballads of all time. Featuring pop/R&B group the Katinas (also on Gotee Records), this song sounds heavenly (pun intended), and the vocals are top notch. "Window" is a decent uptempo, but "If You Really Knew" is the real winner -- it reminds me of the vibe that was heard on 1994's 'Lovin The Day', just updated. The message, music, harmony, and lyrics of "If You Really Knew" blend together really well to create a song that epitomizes the amazing spirit that OOE represents. "If You Really Knew" is my favorite song on this album.
"Tomorrow" is another steady uptempo cut, but "Open Up Your Heart" is OOE at their best. Featuring a beautiful spanish guitar, sparse percussion, and a stunning vocal performance by Lisa Kimmey (who both wrote and produced the song by herself!), "Open Up Your Heart" is a powerful testimony to the musical gift that has been bestowed upon OOE. The mellow sounds continue on "Draw You Near", and then we hear "No Turning Back" an uptempo cut that sounds as confident as its name.
Some albums include those songs that seem to come out of left field; and on "No Turning Back', OOE delivers one of those in the form of "Sara Jane". Featuring a twinge of UK-influenced jungle beats, "Sara Jane" is about the horrible plight faced by young people without guidance, insisting that "we", the listener can "make a difference". I haven't heard social concern on a record like this since Janet Jackson's 'Rhythm Nation 1814'. Closing the album on a disturbingly open-ended note, "Sara Jane" seems to say "you've heard the problem, now it's up to you to do something about it..."

Billy Blu
A crooked little man / lives in the underground
Sometimes he goes up / but mostly he stays down
People call him Billy / William is his name
In the coming darkness / he's the keeper of the flame
He repairs radios / with alien transistors
Cosmic commnication / between brothers and sisters
He has information / unavailable to most
He converses with angels / and sleeps with ghosts
Silence is a sadness / a bird with a song
Billy is a sailor / between right and wrong
A world of light and promise / is beyond his memory
In the present he is occupied / preparing for eternity
Lucifer is coming / don't let the children hear
The devil's in the wood pile / judgment day is near
Things that seem simple / are extremely complicated
When you scratch the surface / of things gold-plated

I hope the more adventurous of you take a listen and give him half a chance and those less adventurous look at all the pictures of his pretty face (well at least that was the one good thing one young lady could find about him). On another interesting note about Johnny he didn't record his first album until he was 50 years old. Well guess I can't complain I didn't put out my first book until I was 34, and I had twenty odd years of material back logged. Which we can really blame on Bob because I really didn't think much of the "bits" I wrote until I heard SBR and I thought man I want to make statements like that. I look at Johnny's lyrics and it so often reminds me of the ways that I string words together. So take a listen, check out what he says, and always keep an open mind, remember don't judge a book by it's cover (or a book of poetry by it's title).
Meh........2004-11-12
Here's what's good about this album: the frenzied 'Garden of Delights.' I would say that this is the one song here that approaches classic status; an unnervingly intense tale of murder/suicide. Also pretty good: 'Wedding Dress,' with its entertaining southern gothic lyric (maybe Dowd should write books). That and 'Brother Jim' have a gospel feel to them (even if one's about a crossdressing butcher and the other a clerical murderer). 'Whisper in the Nag's Ear' might be okay on its own, but it just seems pointlessly overdone compared to the spare original version on Pictures From Life's Other Side.
But...most of the songs are just kind of there. Not unpleasant to listen to, but not exactly exciting either. I expect a lot more from the guy who wrote 'Worried Mind' and 'Hell or High Water.' Better luck next time.

Drum & Bass .......2006-06-27
If English Soccer is "A gentleman's game played by ruffians" - this is "Ruffian music played by gentlemen". I can't help but listen to this import CD and envision an entire futbol stadium swaying under the beat of Brazilian Drums, English steins of lager, passion on the verge of violence and an electrifying pulse that takes on a life of its own.
I had an extremely hard time finding this CD. After being on hold for two months the fateful email came back saying, "sorry, sold out, can't find or you're otherwise S.O.L."
I resorted to Amazon.co.uk

Pretty much a showcase for the new tracks..........2006-04-17
If you know of Glass Tiger, you know about their 80s heyday and how they had great success with certain key songs, before fading away into obscurity. So let's get right to breaking down this album and see if it should be added to your collection, while you and I wait for a new studio album to come along...
The title of my review says it all. It gives us 2 new tracks (the title song and "Give It Away") as well as a B-Side from long ago. Everything else is found on the 1994 hits compilation BEST OF GLASS TIGER: AIR TIME, and AIR TIME is the better of the 2 compilations in my opinion. the 1994 version has 15 of the band's hits and album tracks, PLUS 2 very good unreleased tracks. There are more classic hits on that album than are found on NO TURNING BACK. Why didn't they just put the new songs on a new album and move on from there? I understand this CD correspondes with the release of the DVD of the same name, but still, I find this compilation to be pretty unncessary, and for those only looking for the classic 80s hits, this CD isn't compiled as well as it could have been. The 1994 version has pretty much EVERYTHING a casual fan would want (idealy the person that these CDs are aimed at) plus 2 awesome un-released tracks that fit in like magic.
Finally, most of the tracks on NO TURNING BACK are single versions (radio edits)...come on, nobody needs those. Yet another discouraging point on this compilation. And "Diamond Sun" is the french version. Doesn't do anything for me, and if you are a big fan of the original version, you've been cheated on this one.
In closing, it should be noted that BOTH compilations are widely available, so you don't have to settle for this inferior package. I strongly recommend, for those people who just want plain ol Glass Tiger hits, go with the 1994 version. If you are a completest, the new tracks will be a good addition for you until a new album comes along. Otherwise, this album isn't required listening, go pick up the DVD instead.
