THIS IS A TRUE ROCK N' ROLL! .......2006-02-23
Real Rock N' Roll is still alive.......2002-09-11
Being a Blood For Blood fan for several years, I knew that Rob would not disappoint me. Recent B4B releases have strayed a bit from their pure hardcore roots, combining elements of rock n' roll and tons of catchy melody along with the ever-present anger, and, IMO, each record is better than the one before it.
So that brings us to Sinners & Saints. According to Rob and Mark, some of the material on "The Sky Is Falling" was actually written for B4B and the Ducky Boys. Of course, by listening to the record you would never know it. There's not a single trace of hardcore to be found here. Just sugar sweet melodies, ultra catchy yet simple riffs and Rob and Mark pulling off some fantastic vocals. Rob is really impressive, his voice has never sounded better. In fact, upon first listen I actually had to question if this was really Rob singing. Unlike his vocal performances in B4B, there's really not a lot of anger here. Just A LOT of heart. Mark's voice has improved from his Ducky Boys performances as well.
Lyrically, this is one hell of a heartfelt record. If you can't find something to relate to here, you must not be human. "The Times We Had" is brilliant. The lyrics never really clarify whether or not the narrator is reminiscing of lost love or merely lost friendship, but I can relate to it on both levels.
"Nothing At All" finds Mark doing the lead vocals, singing about crossing paths with an ex-lover. Very heartfelt. Once again, I totally relate.
"The Sky Is Falling" finds Rob doing an amazing job on lead vocals. This song is just so brilliant. When you hear it you will be asking yourself "why the hell isn't this band HUGE?" This song alone destroys any of the rock singles that have received any degree of airplay in the past couple of years.
"Never Too Young To Die", another favorite (hell, the whole damn record is incredible), starts out very reminiscent of the song "Glitter" by Motley Crue (from the Generation Swine record). Of course once the song kicks in, it's pure Sinners & Saints, ultra-catchy melodies and, once again, very well written lyrics. This song is a song of hope narrated by someone who feels hopeless and tired of trying. Buy this and listen, you'll totally understand exactly what I mean.
"The Sky Is Falling" ends with "It's All Coming Down"...another Mark-sang song. Really catchy chorus that reminds me, for some reason, of Rick Springfields "Jessies Girl". I know both Rob and Mark are really into 80's pop, so it would only be natural that a little bit of that influence would seep into their music.
If you're a rock n' roll fan BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY!!! I can't stress enough just how strong a record this is. In a world with true justice, these guys would be mega-stars, touring stadiums filled with sold-out crowds. The amazing thing about "The Sky Is Falling" is the fact that it can (and will) appeal to so many different crowds (the Weezer/Foo Fighters crowd, The GNR crowd, the Social Distortion crowd)...and I dare say, with the exception of maybe GNR, S&S are better than any of the above. Trust me on this one folks. This is a truly amazing record in an era in which placing the word "amazing" in front of the word "record" is becoming an ever increasingly difficult task.

The one and only Fred Neil.......2005-07-06
This album is comprised of earlier released live tracks available on Other side of this life and The many side of Fred Neil. But it also includes four tracks only available on folk compilations including one, The sky is falling, wich has never been available anywhere else (unless the Raven release of August has some surprises). This makes the album a must for anybody who takes folkmusic and singer-songwriters to heart.

Having earned his composing stripes after the 1960s, John Adams had the pioneering work of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Terry Riley close at hand as he ventured into his trade. And, while minimalism's historical continuum helps place Adams, he used Reich, Glass, and Riley (among others) only as a starting point. And here's proof: a 10-CD retrospective of nearly all Adams's recorded compositions on Nonesuch Records, the label that also issued Steve Reich 1965-1995 and Kronos Quartet: 25 Years. Adams's Harmonium, a choral work of startling energy and effervescence, appears here in a new recording, as do distillations of both The Death of Klinghoffer and Nixon in China, two path-clearing operas. Over the span of a career covered by Earbox, Adams has returned minimalism to traditional instrumental ensembles as well as to projects that at once advanced a political commentary and took that commentary back to orchestral audiences. And so, in far less time than his predecessors, Adams created works that now play like standard repertoire pieces: The Wound Dresser and Shaker Loops and the Violin Concerto--all of them are here. What these works demonstrate is a fierce creativity on the one hand and perhaps a hunger for commercial advances on the other. Adams may at times be a bustling free thinker, but he sounds ever conscious of what audiences are listening to. As for the works themselves, they remain every bit as daunting as when written. Some may object to particular selections. I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, for example, hardly ranks with Adams's best work. But this box isn't a mere best-of; it's an almost-all-of. At times terrifically American--especially in the news-aware operas and their narrative pragmatism--Adams well deserves a major box set, and its coverage is appropriate to his varied, stylistically diverse output. As with any large-scale retrospective, Earbox--which fairly bristles with Adams's new composition, Slonimsky's Earbox--has spots where fans might balk at the quality of the composer's writing. But it's got a fantastic accompanying booklet along with its many hours of inarguably modern and thoroughly listener-friendly music. --Andrew Bartlett

harmonia in excelsis.......2001-11-12
Interesting, and likely intentional, is that two names in the extensive liner book fail to mention two great and glaringly obvious precursors: Carl Orff and Raymond Scott. Without "Carmina Burana," there would be no "Harmonium." Orff has his mark all over Adams's gifted and epic compositions. Similarly, though there are glib references to "cartoon music," the polymath engineer/musician Scott is a seminal figure in American music, and casts a large shadow over the witty juxtapositions and sense of play one loves in Adams's work. In all, an excellent career overview.
Our greatest living composer.......2001-07-22
That anyone can use the words "spoiled, overrated" amazes me. I emphatically disagree with "A music fan"'s review.
I don't think it's "mind-numbing"; I think it's spiritual and exciting. To me it's the most substantial music being created in our times.
I'm really sorry that anyone could fail to enjoy it, and really recommend others to listen for themselves.

Not bad.......2007-05-04
Well with the Dead Kennedys he wrote some of the most politicaly inspiring songs you are ever likely to hear. Much different from say Crass who more went on a rant only Subhumans came close with their political humour. Jello hear sounds like he has run out of ideas (pity realy as I first heard this many moons ago on the John Peel show (gives you some idea how long ago he has since passed away!)) Sadly Jello here seems to have gone down the road of political rants rather than insight which was the landmark of the Dead Kennedys. Take the track 'The myth is real' Just a bunch of quotes and sound bytes but little meaning behind them.
Good music (it is No Means No after all) but lyrics, Check out a Dead Kennedys album. This is just Jello on a political rant for the kids.
Awesome, Ugly Math-Rock-Politico-baby-thing.......2005-03-16
an easy listening classic.......2004-12-11
This is much as you would expect of a Jello Biafra album - fruit-loop vocals, heavy pile-driver punk riffs and more parandoid rants than your average David Hasselhoff compilation.
Standout tracks are; 'the Flume', 'the Myth is real, let's Eat' and 'Chew'. The latter being a heartwarming account of mutant super-rats taking over the city subway and feasting on hapless commuters.
To think poor old Jello got beaten up in Frisco for being a 'punk sellout' - who says Americans don't understand the concept of irony . . .
Dead Kennedy's revived.......2003-05-04
Speaking only for myself, I found most of DK's stuff after Fresh Fruit to be a little annoying. I respect 'em greatly, but there wasn't a whole lot of levity in their later recordings. This is the best thing, IMHO, that Jello has done since Fresh Fruit. His maturity, topics, and *unique style* fit perfectly here, and this is a great, overlooked punk record...
This is a good Dks substitute until the reunion!!!!!!!lol.......2002-04-28

Product Description
The Sky Is Falling has been out of print for years. This is a re-issue with a new booklet, new photos, brand new e.q. and new mastering done with new technology. This sounds great and these thirteen songs are among some of Randy's most significant compositions. "Postcards From The Heart" was recorded during The Sky Is Falling Sessions. It is about Randy's parents. "King of Hearts" is the full orchestra version which Randy wanted to make. The rock version was released instead. This is that orchestral version. "Good News" is from the audio-synch version of the movie BBC released. Larry produced the session and organized the booking and has the 24 track 2" tapes of it. He hopes to release the entire Stonehill and Band concert by next year. 1. One True Love 2. Through The Glass Darkly 3. Teen King (Alternate Mix) 4. The Great American Cure 5. Venezuela 6.
