Mandoza Rules, he is off the hizi.
Kwaito Rocks.

5 out of 5 stars Mandoza Rocks!.......2002-10-15

This has to be Mandoza's best album yet. He is the KING of Kwaito.

Mandoza's voice is full of energy and is complimented by bruising bass. You will find yourself singing along even if you don't understand Xhoza (one of South Africa's official languages). This album is great for parties or perfect driving music.

If you only buy one CD this year ensure that it is GODOBA. This is an essential Kwaito purchase!

5 out of 5 stars Mandoza is kwaito at it's best.......2002-07-15

Mandoza, more than any other artist, defines South African pop culture.
One of the biggest mistakes Westerners tend to make when they think of African music is that we think of TRADITIONAL African music. Djembe drums, women ululating, everything we're used to seeing on melodramatic education programs.
What we forget is that Africa is changing, just like the rest of the world; and its music--by necessity--is changing too. While traditional music is important to the South African culture, that doesn't mean its what kids listen to when they get home from school, or what their parents play at parties after work.
If you walk through the townships on the Cape Flats in South Africa today, the music you'll hear coming from the cars you pass will be kwaito, a local style combining elements of techno, hip-hop and reggae. If you want to hear South African music, start with kwaito.
And remember that, these days, Mandoza is the kwaito king.

2 out of 5 stars There's Better Kwaito Out There.......2004-02-03

I was in South Africa in 2003 and heard a lot of the recent Kwaito releases. Many people seem to like this one but I find it to be largely overrated. Definitely go with Mapaputsi "Izinja" and Mafikizolo "Sibongile" over this disc, or also consider TKZee "Halloween." Honestly, I'm not sure what the hype is over this guy. Have a good listen before you buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, hip, and different.......2002-03-06

Someone asked the DJ to play the title song on a cruise I recently went on, and I was hooked! This is a fun CD that's different than what you'll hear in the U.S. The fact that I couldn't understand the words--well, it IS a South African CD! What can you expect? That aspect didn't bother me at all; Mandoza's voice just becomes another instrument. As for lack of songs, there may not be a large number on the CD, but they're long. Definitely worth the money!

    5 out of 5 stars the beat!.......2001-11-28

This isn't the typical African music you find of Tuku or N'Dour. It's more like the hip-hop you'll find in the U.S. but more lyrical somehow(I know that's horrible, but it's pointless to describe music I feel). I heard it blasting out of every tinkery radio in Southern Africa and had to have it.

One caveat: I told a Mostwana friend that I liked this and he mocked me for liking the music of small children. It's true, in Southern Africa Mendoza is kinda like Backstreet boys (but then that 20rd year old friend of mine LOVED N'Sync). I think this is partically because the music of 13 year-olds is the most accessible....I'm 21 and I still love it. Someone else's pop is much better than your own.
