About the Artist
A singer, songwriter and guitarist, Ms. Valadez’ repertoire is rich and romantic, including songs from many nations. A third generation musician, she learned her first guitar chords and got a love for harmonies from her Mom, Pete Seeger and the Greenwich Village blues locals. Her influences range from Muddy Waters to Grace Slick, Jobim to Dorival Cayimmi, Celtic to country, international folk to classic jazz. A strong vocalist, performer and arranger, Ms. Valadez plays studio sessions, produces, and plays guitar and percussion. Her newest CD, "Ladino Alive", expresses the time she lived in Spain performing, writing and collecting songs from the Spanish and North African sephardic traditions. She brings ancient love songs and liturgical prayers into a haunting and soulful rhythmic present.
