Album Description

"Lullabies and Love Songs" by Tanja Solnik was chosen by Moment Magazine in August 1999 as one of the Top Ten Family Recordings of the 1990s! It features a dozen traditional folk tunes in Yiddish and Hebrew and Ladino to appeal to parents, grandparents and children. Solnik pours her soul into the songs; Jim Hershman on mandolin and balalaika and Gary Nesteruk on piano and keyboards add immeasurably to the appeal.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Baby Ian and I love this CD.......2002-05-20

The subtly ethnic Jewish folk tunes combined with Tanja's soothing voice make for a wonderful series of unusual lullabies. The sound is somehow archetypal, and makes my bones feel happy.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Something Old, Something New..........2006-06-30

These are gorgeous songs and,as usual, Fortuna's clarity and range are beautiful to hear. The acoustic and flamenco guitars are always brilliant. You'll love the music, for here you can rest and dream in the luxurious abundance of care that Fortuna and her musicians give in expressing each song. Old songs are like loved, old friends you greet anew and never tire of. And I can say that, having discovered the artist this June.

Fortuna is a very special Brazilian singer.
She sings ladino songs, a kind of dialet sponken by Mediterranean jews. This language - mix of antique Portuguese and Spanish - reveals another Diaspora ways.
I love this musics.
