Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07

Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.

Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18

I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.

Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21

I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!

Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11

This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

great for christmas in tropical locals.......2007-01-24

I gave this to my aunt for christmas and she raved about it. It's a great fit for tropical christmases. We don't see much snow in south florida and steel drums add a nice flair with the tropical setting.

Not for me.......2007-01-16

It may just be me, but I was disappointed in this album when I received it. It just wasn't what I hoped it would be...most of the songs sounded similar and I believe I could have made a better choice. I guess I was looking for a little more "Buffett" in my Caribbean than I felt like I received with this selection...to each his own.

Great idea, but recording quality less than 5 stars.......2007-01-13

I really enjoy listening to Xmas classics on the steel drums. It really is 100% steel drums on many songs, with no vocals.

I would give this item 5 stars if the recording quality were great. Unfortunately, it sounds rather old and thin.

Even so, I'd buy it again knowing the way that it is.

Christmas in the Caribbean is FANTASTIC!.......2007-01-10

Got this CD for a Caribbean themed Christmas party that I hosted! It was GREAT! It really gives you the feel of being in the Caribbean and all of your favorite Christmas songs! We even did the limbo to a few of them! If you want a true taste of the Caribbean at Christmas... this is the CD for you!

Sounds like a practice session.......2007-01-10

I may not be an expert on steel drums, but I do listen to Jimmy Buffett a lot! He has a great steel drum drummer. After listening to this cd, I gave it away in a white elephant gift exchange this past Xmas.

A really fun CD.......2006-11-14

This CD absolutely smokes! A collection of incredibly, hot, innovative latin-jazz interpretations of holiday classics. This CD is not designed for quiet fireside contemplation. I played it last year while we trimmed the tree and the entire family ended up bopping around the family room. Truly a lot of fun!

PLEASE NOTE: This CD was put out a couple of years ago as "Playboy's Latin Jazz Christmas: A Not So Silent Night" but with a different cover. That's great because the original had a Playboy Bunny on the cover which may have discouraged some people from checking it out. That was a shame because it's an absolutely wonderful CD.

HO-HO-HO HAS NEVER SOUNDED MORE HOT-HOT-HOT.......2004-05-07

Muy caliente! Sizzle doesn't get spicier than this collection of Latin-infused versions of holiday favorites: "Silent Night" as a cha cha, "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" as a mambo. Ho-ho-ho has never sounded more hot-hot-hot!

Here comes Yellowman, his bag stuffed with more ho-ho-ho's than Santa's, lending your favorite Yuletide classics the scent of Caribbean sun 'n' surf, instead of pine tree and roast bird, via these old school "reggaematizations." A rather woozy "Yellowman Is Coming to Town" leads off this set of transformed Yuletide classics, its pensive tone departing from contemporary reggae dance hall's faster tempos, but perfectly complementing the artist's portrait in Santa getup (a parody of Bing Crosby's White Christmas album) gracing the CD cover. The baritone may have lost a bit of its booming resonance, but this top star of Jamaica's early '80s dance hall remains its hardest-working MC. Yellow switch-hits, as usual, between dead-serious and hilariously silly, and it's hard to say when he is funniest. A lengthy list of motherland nations receives season shout-outs in "African Christmas"; the man with the toys is roundly scolded in "Santa Claus Never Comes to the Ghetto." Easier to read and more typical of this inveterate clown are "Children Saw Mommy Kissing Yellowman" and the mock-lament over his island's snow deprivation in "Jamaica, Jamaica, We Don't Got No Snow." This album sits alongside such classics as Macho Man Randy Savage's "Be A Man" as an unintended hilarious masterpiece. Just the thought of finding mommy kissing Yellowman is enough to bring a tear to any child's eye.....the mere inference sends chills up and down my spine. The various turds throughout this album are shined to a glimmering yellow.....making such lame songs as "jingle bell rock" tolerable, if not enjoyable. And may all your christmases be yellow.

"I bought this CD last year and think it is fantastic! If you get sick of the same old Christmas music played over and over and over again in the same way, try this CD. You will be amazed how the style of music can change songs you have heard many times before. Also, there are songs on this CD which you will not be familiar with at all but will enjoy nevertheless. This CD shows how the spirit of Christmas has spread around the globe and been interpreted by the diverse cultures of the world."

Vince Charles' "Caribbean Christmas" is a whole different flavor of Christmas music. Even though the songs are all classic holiday tunes, the truly amazing steel drum playing of this artist gives them a freshness I never would have expected. It has become my absolute favorite Christmas music CD!

I took a chance and purchased this CD about 10 years ago and everytime I listen to it, it sounds better and better. The variety of artists from Trinidad to Puerto Rico are phenomenal. The only song I have never been crazy about is #8-Santa Claus Is Comin To Town; otherwise, this is an outstanding album. It takes you away to the Caribbean for a different kind of Christmas celebration and keeps you dancing. A must have! A little rum anyone?

You've Gotta Get This One!.......2001-12-02

This CD is really special. A great collection of Christmas songs with that unique Caribbean flavour for a real departure from the usual North American/European classics. All different moods from ballads to exuberant dance-ables and mellow jazzy stuff, too. All Caribbean cultures are represented here with new and old songs. The liner notes alone are worth the price of the CD! In addition to the lyrics are factual notes about each song explaining the cultural and historical aspects -- I learned a lot just from reading them! And Machel's Soca Santa is now an absolute staple in our house every Christmas. You can't not dance to it and my nieces in Boston play it all year 'round! Give yourself a great gift and buy this CD!
