I am pleased to find this music. It was difficult to find in 1963. That it is available in 2007 is impressive.

5 out of 5 stars A NEW FAVORITE.......2003-09-23

I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED SIL AUSTIN, AND SO GLAD I DID. MY TWO FAVORITE SAX ARTISTS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EARL BOSTIC AND FREDDY GARDNER, NOW I HAVE A THIRD. SILS MELODIC PERFORMANCE OF MOSTLY STANDARDS IS SIMPLY GREAT. HE IS ACCOMPANIED BY A FULL ORCHESTRA AND VOICES BUT THEY NEVER INTRUDE ON HIS DOMINATE PERFORMANCES. THERE ARE JUST ENOUGH VARIATIONS IN RHYTHM AND OTHER NUANCES TO ADD A LITTLE INDIVIDUALITY TO EACH ARRANGEMENT.THE LINER NOTES ARE IN A LANGUAGE I DONT RECOGNIZE, BUT WHO CARES, ITS A GREAT CD!

If you are a fan of West Coast music, then chances are you've heard of Bill Labounty. Bill is a master smooth jazz song-writer who has written AOR hits for the likes of Peter Cetera, Patti LaBelle, Bobby Caldwell, James Taylor, Jennifer Warnes, Michael Johnson, and Robie Dupree. This collection features 16 of the best songs from his four late 70s / early 80s releases, which are either out of print or pretty hard to find. Exceptional songs include "Trail To Your Heart", "In 25 Words or Less", and "This Night Won't Last Forever", which is one of BMI's most performed songs of all time.

Oh Man!What can an useless australian know about italian music?Well, nothing at all.Filippa Giordano is a great artist loved by some of the most important composers and conductors of the world.Names?Morricone and Riccardo Muti.If you like music buy this cd.

1 out of 5 stars Shall I?.......2007-02-26

Shall I do the honours or should someone else? Alright, since no one else is going to state the obvious, I guess it is up to me....

Filippa Giordano can't sing.

Now back in the late 1990s, a little known (outside of Italia) model and sometime "Pop" singer by the name of Filippa Giordano was either coaxed into or had the unbridled temerity (and nerve) to record repertoire requiring vocal and musical techniques, skills, comprehension and talent far in advance of Signorina Giordano's meagre and patently limited resources. Her music was "accompanied" by a very cheesy second rate sounding "wedding singer" studio band. The result was execrable.

Giordano's technique ranged from a breathy "little girl" voice [enhanced with massive artificial reverb] in the parts within her vocal range and when the melodic line went beyond Flipper's vocal limitations, she turned the music into the blood-curdling screams of a banshee. Breathy baby-doll and screaming banshee - Flipper Giordano's only two modes of vocal production. The results? Well???! "Not good", would have to be the understatement of the century! ;-))

Now that some other hapless money hungry producers and "artists" are churning out more and more "popera" glop, some mercenary git has decided that it was high time the musical fiasco that was Filippa Giordano's career was brought down from the attic, where it belongs, dusted off, tarted up with a new colour photograph of the talentless model and shoved in front of the philistines of the world again. Maybe a few more suckers out there would be ready to buy this risible attempt at singing again?

This album is a dud and a fiasco.

5 out of 5 stars Filippa is marvellous!!!!.......2006-12-05

This CD includes the following songs: 1) Casta diva 2) O mio babbino caro 3) Va' pensiero 4)Plaisir d' amour 5) Habanèra 6)Un bel dì vedremo 7) La barcarolle 8)Ave Mari 9)Vissi d'arte 10)Che luce sei 11)Dove andiamo noi 12) I'alba verrà 13) Lost boys calling 14) Coro a bocca chiusa 15) Addio del passato 16) S'apre per te il mio cuor 17) Il rosso amore 18) Up to the light 19) Il canto della terra 20) Maternita 21) Stella.
Let me inform you tha Filippa also made a new version of Prima Donna for Mexico, that includes wonderful versions from the songs: "Me he enamorado de tí" (Woman in love), "Cómo he de vivir sin tu cariño" (How am I supposed to live without you), O terra addio (duet with Marcello Giordano). Enjoy her album!!!! ;-D

5 out of 5 stars Genius.......2006-02-02

Once again, Filippa's voice astonishes and moves. I only wish Amazon would actually carry her albums and that I did not have to go elsewhere to buy them!

    Album Description

The powerful music of prayer and ecstasy that flowed through the heart of the San Francisco Sufi community in the 60s and 70s was originally released on several LPs and cassettes. "The Best of the Sufi Choir," a collection of sixteen songs, was released in 1994 as a CD, but has been out of print for many years. The collection is now available in a beautifully designed new edition. The legacy of Murshid Samuel Lewis, his teachers, and his teachings, can be experienced as a clear ocean of sound, sometimes intricately patterned, sometimes sing-along simple, always deeply intimate.

William Allaudin Mathieu composer of the music on this CD founded the Sufi Choir in 1969, and directed it until 1982.

Mathieu (b. 1937) is a pianist, composer, teacher, recording artist, and author. He has composed a variety of chamber and choral works and made numerous solo piano recordings. He has written three books on music — The Listening Book; The Musical Life; and Harmonic Experience: Tonal Harmony from Its Natural Origins to Its Modern Expression.

Allaudin was a disciple of North Indian vocalist Pandit Pran Nath for 25 years. He studied African music with Nubian musician Hamza El Din, jazz with William Russo, and European classical music with Easley Blackwood.

In the 1960s, he spent several years as an arranger/composer for Stan Kenton and Duke Ellington, and was the musical director for the Second City Theater in Chicago (which he helped found) and for the Committee Theater in San Francisco. In the 1970s, he served on the faculties of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Mills College.

The past two decades Allaudin has devoted to composition, performance, recording, teaching, and writing from his home near Sebastopol, California.

      4 out of 5 stars It's a Pretty Good CD.......2006-12-11

I made this review a few years ago under a different account (my username now, but it has quotes around it. Have no idea how that works.)

It's a good CD, but since I haven't listened to the whole thing more than a few times because I still don't own the game even after two or three years. I don't really feel the connection to it because of that, unlike FFVII where I own the game and know the story behind the music.

I do recommend this CD, though, because I also own FF S Generation and the composition is basically the same. Track 30 is the same as Track 15 on FF S Gen. The main reason that I got this CD was because it had "Prelude" and the English version of "Memories of Life". I only had one problem with each of them, though, but trust me when I say that doesn't ruin the experience. "Prelude" is too short, but the sound is excellent with the harp/crystal music. If they had added another minute or two it would've been perfect. As for "Memories of Life", the singing is beautiful, as is the music. As a matter of fact, it sounds like all they did was switch singers (and you can see what I mean if you listen to the Japanese version of it on FF S Gen.). The only problem is there are some places that you can't understand what she's saying. Even if you're listening real closely, you can barely understand because she doesn't enunciate real well. That's only in a couple of spots, though, so it only ruins the mood when you try to sing along with it and you can't get the words down right because they don't make sense. Also, because there are so many tracks, you can guarantee that some won't be longer than 30 seconds long. It's kind of a bummer in a way because they could've used that time to spice up some of the other songs, but it doesn't detract that much from the actual CD.

Overall this is a good CD and I recommend you buy FF S Generation along with it. You won't regret it.

      5 out of 5 stars A Great Buy!.......2003-03-17

I actually do not own this soundtrack, and do not plan on buying it anytime soon. But there is a very simple reason for that....I already own the four disc original soundtrack for this game. And altough people who this may also have the 4 disc version, I don't have the money to buy this, along with the other iten's I want.

This cd may not including all of my favorites, it does have some wonderful tracks on it. "You're Not Alone" is one of my favorites, if not my favorite, and is on this collection. Other greats include, "Vamo' Alla Flamenco", "Bran Bal", "Behind that door" and "Sky of Alexanderia" are not to be missed. I think that "Black Mage Village" shouldn't beon this cd, but it is a fun track.

If you own the 4 disc soundtrack, you may want to order this, so you can have must of your favorite songs on one disc. For those who don't own the 4 disc soundtrack I suggest you get this to truly sample FFIX's amazing collection. And then you may want to like into the original version. Either way, this is a collection worth getting.

      5 out of 5 stars Zidane's Hope.......2002-01-30

This soundtrack is full of all of the final fantasy classics from number nine, including mostly every characters theme.

5 out of 5 stars Great selection of great music.......2001-11-22

Although I never played Final Fantasy IX, I am a fan of Uematsu's other works so I decided to pick up this CD. Let me just say that I enjoyed the music thoroughly, even though I couldn't connect it with a scene in the game. The quality of Uematsu's composition is, as always, top notch, and the sound quality is some of the best I have heard on the Playstation (except, of course, for Chrono Cross). This is especially good to know after the dissapointing sound quality heard in the first two Playstation FF's. Of special note is the voice samples that can be heard in parts of the soundtrack, such as the realistic singing in "Song from her Memory," the spanish yell in "Vamo Alla Flamenco", or even the trademarked "Wark!" in "Ukelele de Chocobo."

The music its self conveys every sort of mood imaginable, from the adventurous "Over the Hill", to the peaceful "Daguerreo, the hermit's library", to the frightening and fast-paced (if a bit watered down) "Final Battle". Other highlights of the CD (IMHO) include "Vivi's Theme", the previously mentioned "Vamo Alla Flamenco", and "Not Alone". I do have some bones to pick with Uematsu's composition of some songs, however. For example, "Zidane's Theme" ends up sounding a bit too... Disney, and, as I mentioned before, The Final Battle is very watered down compared to earlier final boss songs in the FF series (think Zeromus from FF4, Dancing Mad from FF6, or even One Winged Angel from FF7). Also, I just didn't like "Black Mage Village," as the song is much to synthy and techno-y even for my tastes.

Finally, as the title says, this is a "best selection" album, so it doesn't have nearly asmuch music as the full four disk import. However, the music selection is excellent, despite the fact that it seems like Uematsu gravitated more towards peices improtant to the game than peices that were the best music in the game. The result turned out good, though, so I'm not complaining. One last complained i have is that the songs only loop once before fading, where they loop twice in the four disk set. This makes it hard to get into some songs, as they end just as you start to get into them.

As a whole, though, FF9: Uematsu's Best Selection is well worth picking up, especially if you don't have the full OST. The composition, the sound quality, and the selection are all extremely well done.

This CD contains lots of song of my favourites. We use to sing these songs in the groundschool during the communist times in Hungary. When i listening this CD, i remember when i was a little child.
For those of You, who likely not lived in a communist country, very hard to understand the songs (and also the songs are in hungarian language), but it is still very good.
I recommand this CD for everybody. And also recommend You, to visit the Communist statue Park in Budapest, Hungary.
            Have fun with this CD.
