Editorial Reviews
The Hot Rods are fronted by song writing prodigy Giovanni Pirozzi. On guitar, his bother Vincenzo adds color and spice to the rock solid foundation laid by Mikael Jacobson (bass) and Gregg Ginsburg (drums).
Product Description
The Hot Rods debut CD was rife with controversy from day one; lawsuits were filed by The Rolling Stones, The Minutemen, Duane Eddy and the ACLU (to name a few). But nothing could hinder the momentum of LA's "illegitimate sons of The Blasters" in their creation of what is referred to by some as "the greatest debut album of all time."
A seething rendition of "Lil' Sue" sets the stage for the 16 song CD in which The Hot Rods pay homage to the past while affirming themselves as the future of rock and roll.

Here's an educated guess that road tapes are the second most popular type of homemade mix cassette. (One suspects that old off-road standard--the bedroom mix--would clock in at No. 1.) Hot Rods & Custom Classics is Rhino Records' big daddy of road mixes: four discs housed in an elaborate box that includes a scrupulously assembled 66-page booklet, a catalog of hot-rod accessories, a strip of decals, and even a set of fuzzy dice for your own resto rod. Musically, this collection is all over the road, ranging from selections that seem like they were written with one foot on the accelerator (Johnny Bond's "Hot Rod Lincoln," Chuck Berry's "Maybelline," War's "Low Rider") to more tangential tracks that might force you to pull into a rest stop (Hank Williams's mournful "Lost Highway," Rod Stewart's "Gasoline Alley"). Spanning multiple genres and five decades, Custom Classics is enlivened by film and ad snippets, including a public-safety message from high-speed-crash victim James Dean on, naturally, safe highway driving. --Steven StolderCustomer Reviews:

As fast and snarling as a hot rod!.......2006-05-20
British Pub Rock, fast and loud!.......2005-06-21
Teenage Depression is a strange disc. Half of the tracks were recorded live. Several cover tracks (live) are covers whilst the others are studio tunes written by Douglas, Gray and Hollis. The music is classic rockabilly, nothing flashy or ground breaking. Rocking sounds that'll keep you bumping and a bopping! This is the band's best disc in my opinion.
Highly recommended!
First rate early punk rock.......2005-04-26
I bought the USA version of the LP when it came out in 1976 and still love it. If half way between Dr. Feelgood and The Damned's first LP means anything to you, you'll know why this is such a good record.
If you like punk rock from 1976-1977, this is essential.
best first album ever heard.......2004-11-16
Not Written By A Top Reviewer...........2003-06-26
Other reviewers are entitled to their opinion even if they are wrong on this one! (I guess The All Music Guide is off base rating this album 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.)
Alrighty then....this cd does stand up to the test of time extremely well. The Hot Rods are not "kid rock"; they're flat out, pedal to the medal Britsh rock with a heck of alot of roll. Like the liner notes read..."The Hot Rods are not 'new wave', but 'old wave' played faster and louder". They are not "punky" rockers or pop. I would describe their music as a cross between British pub/punk/new wave and the great 70's rockers like J Geils Band & Bob Seger. Imagine J. Geils & Bob Seger crossed with The Who with a very tiny bit of The Clash thrown in...that's the Hot Rods. Some of the standout tracks are a reflection of The Hot Rod's influences; covers of Geil's "Hard Drivin' Man", Seger's "Get Out Of Denver" & The Who's "Kids Are Alright". Killer rock 'n' roll guitar mixed up front and in your face. The remastering job here is excellent. The bonus live tracks demonstrate The Hot Rods were about blood, sweat and tears and not chains, safety pins and spiked hair. Yes this is a bit pricey, but if you can find a used copy snatch it up. You'll be glad you did.

Second album crowns career of hard-rocking late-70s pub band.......2000-06-15
This LP represents the 'Rods second and best effort, adding a bit more of a melodic edge through the addition of guitarist Graeme Douglas. Many bright moments to be heard, including the superb UK chart hit, "Do Anything You Wanna Do."
This import reissue is listed elsewhere as containing nine bonus tracks.
