Danity Kane's concept isn't revolutionary--bind five gorgeous, vocally gifted girls together at the hip and the world is bound to take notice--but its role as a reality TV band is: Here, finally, is the reason to stop raking contestants over the coals and accept that the tube can spawn some seriously hot music. Whether they're a Making the Band fluke or a solid indication that the TV talent pool is deepening season by season is anybody's guess, but there's no denying these ladies, hand-plucked by Diddy, pack a post-R&B sizzle roving ears won't soon tire of. With a vibe more En Vogue than Destiny's Child--spot-on harmonizing, synchronized vocal tumbles, the occasional righteous yelp--they strut their way through 14 solid tracks, some whispery ("Ooh Ahh," "Stay With Me"), some noisy ("Back Up"), all sexy. Club cut "Show Stopper" featuring fellow Bad Boy artist Yung Joc is the disc's first single and breakout track, but look for another song, "Heartbreaker," to outlast it: with its languid acoustic guitar and midsong break, it casts a booty-swiveling, body-rocking spell. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
Making the Band is back for Season 3, and you better believe the drama runs deep. This album is the music hard work of five girls handpicked by Sean "Diddy" Combs for his all-new pop group which was recorded while they were living together in a luxury Soho loft and prepared to go on tour.Customer Reviews:
3-1/2 stars -- Good album, but they should really consider switching labels.......2007-04-20
If people don't understand why I say they should switch labels, I attribute it to past experience. The ladies said in interviews that they are so glad to be on Bad Boy. But I'm been looking at Bad Boy's track record for the past few years, and what being on that label seems to mean NOW is that Diddy will release two songs from your album and then forget about you. Case in point: Dream, New Edition, 8Ball & MJG, Mase (think Welcome Back era), B5, Da Band...should I go on?
Anyway, since these five ladies were brought together on Making the Band, some people might want to easily write them off as some manufactured no-talents, but that's actually far from the case. While I'm not sure what "Danity Kane" is supposed to mean, and I agree with the other reviewers when they said that Aundrea is the best singer (and she's definitely a sight for sore eyes), the group as a whole still produce some good songs. I'm starting to like "Show Stopper" more than I used to (even though I'm not a big fan of Yung Joc), but there are better songs than that, like "One Shot".
But the album's best moments are when the ladies slow things down, like "Ride For You", "Right Now" and especially "Stay With Me". Still, there are a few times when the songs feel disposable, like "Back Up". "Heartbreaker" seems to contradict itself, and the hidden track "Sleep On It" will make you want to do just that. But Danity Kane do prove that the era of good R&B singing groups isn't dead, so pick it up.

What A Way To Introduce Big Daddy Kane (Rating:9 out of 10- -4.5 stars).......2007-02-27
Now the songs themselves are great. A lot of the songs are from his first two albums "Long Live The Kane" (1988), and "It's A Big Daddy Thing" (1989), with only a few from "A Taste Of Chocolate" (1990) and "Looks Like A Job For..." (1993). I believe his biggest hit was "Ain't No Half Steppin'" which has one of the best beats I've heard in a minute made by Marley Marl. Every rapper seems to make refrence to that song, and I can see why. Another song that really stuck out to me when I first heard it was "Smooth Operator" which also has a nice beat. And his voice in that song was deep, I see why the ladies loved the man.
We get a few treats here on this album. There is "Wrath Of Kane" that was recorded live from the Apollo Theatre, which has fans screaming at the top of their lungs showing love for Kane. I haven't heard the album version yet, but this one here is good as well. Then at the end of the album we get "Give A Demonstration" that was an outtake from his "Prince Of Darkness" (1991) album. I personally don't see how was an outtake. Hearing that song really shows Kane's versitale lyrical skills throughout that song.
So there we have it. One of rap's biggest icons best songs all here on one CD. This CD is really a starter kit to Big Daddy Kane. A lot of rappers chipped their flow off of Kane, like Jay-Z and Big L (no disrespect) and some people never realized that. All these people who listen to the radio and claim that some artist who debuted some 3 or 4 years ago is the best rapper alive really need to listen to artists like Big Daddy Kane and experience what origionality is all about. I didn't know that Kane was one of the first people to wear jewelery and drive nice cars and get upscale ladies, before everybody and their mother in rap music were doing that. Talk about one hell of a trendsetter.
There are a few tracks I want to hear though that are not on here. I heard he made a song with the late Barry White and that has me curious to what it sounds like. Also none of his songs from his last two albums "Daddys Home" (1994) & "Veterans Day" (1998) are on here...and from what I heard, they were not as good. But if you are a fan of hip hop and haven't heard of anything from Kane, this album is what you should get.

Big Daddy Kane's 1988 debut still stands as a raw classic from one of hip-hop's most fruitful years. The production is end to end brilliant, with Juice Crew guru Marley Marl soundtracking Kane through nine furious cuts (and one absolute stinker, the slow jam "The Day You're Mine"). Marl's production has rarely sounded finer, a gritty chorus of drums and funk-soul samples that have since been immortalized. "Raw," "Just Rhymin' with Biz," and "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" are the certified anthems, but they're not the only highlights. Check the furious "Long Live the Kane" and "Set It Off" for Kane's up-tempo odes to himself. "I'll Take You There" and "Word to the Mother(Land)" were the obligatory (yet heartfelt) Nation nods, mandatory during this brief late-'80s period of Afrocentricity. Though his image would soon switch to that of a smoothed-out new jack playa, the memory of Kane as one of hip-hop's supreme lyrical rulers lives long on this masterpiece. --Hua HsuCustomer Reviews:
Long Live The Kane.......2006-09-22
"Ain't No Half Steppin" is so smooth, but lyrically Kane kept it raw. "RAW" is as the title says. "Set It Off" shows Kane can rap ultra fast and still come off. Listen to his flow on any song off the album, it's meticlious. He pronounces every word so clearly, I honestly would put his flow on this album, which is 15 years old up against anyone today. And probably would still have it give it to Kane for most incredible flow. Every emcee today was either directly influenced by, or influenced by somebody who was influenced by Kane. He is that damn good, period.
I have got to give it up to Big Daddy Kane........2006-09-01
Every track on 'Long Live The Kane' is a truly classic. The tracks that steps up to me are "Set It Off" "Just Rhymin' With Biz" "Ain't No Half-Steppin" and "Raw."
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hip-hop essential to hip-hop fans from every division.
This CD Contains 2 Of Hip Hop's Greatest Songs!.......2006-06-18
This album contained more than just the best bragging track of all-time, it contained another hip hop classic that anyone who calls themself a hip-hop Head must know to be considered a member: RAW. BDK strings lyrics and his flow together with his killer voice over a cathy James Brown drum sample and you have old school magic.
I hate to echo the words of every other reviewer but when they are speaking the truth I don't mind: THIS IS A CLASSIC CD, PERIOD. If you love hip-hop or if you're new to Hip Hop, this is where your collection should start. As other's have said, there is only one filler track, and the rest all rate around 4 stars apiece. Do yourself a favour and avoid the garbage that hip hop is currently putting out and go back to the old school, where the lyrics were as good as the beats, and their was substance over flash.
hip hops best lyricist at his finest.......2005-11-20
But the lyrics aren't the only reason to get this album. Marley Marl's production stands the test of time, and the production on "Ain't No Half Steppin" is just brilliant and is one of hip-hop's greatest songs of all time with Kane's mellow flow and clever lyrics. Mister Cee, the DJ, also showcases his skill on the turntables on songs like "Long Live the Kane" with his soul samples and ability to spice up any Marley Marl beat to make it even better.
Put simply, there's a reason this album got 5 mics from the Source. It's a hip-hop classic, and it influenced everything from Jay-Z and Common to Dr. Dre's G Funk era that ruled the early to mid 90s. Pick up this album and "It's a Big Daddy Thing" to hear a master of the microphone rip it from start to finish.

CLASSIC IN ANY CATERGORY OR TIME PERIOD.......2007-06-17
One of the best Hip Hop albums ever!.......2007-05-12
Rhymes:
Kane was a wordsmith like no other. He could spit rapid fire battle rhymes or he lay it on smooth for the ladies. In fact, Kane could combine the two! "Smooth Operator" finds Kane destroying his competition "in a calm manner" while still loving the ladies.
Beats:
The variety of sounds on this record is delight to the ears. "Young, Gifted, and Black" gives you that '70s Blaxploitation feel. The sampled horns behind Kane's rhymes takes you to another place. It's smooth, but not soft. And who can forget "I Get the Job Done"? Teddy Riley's percussion arrangement is sure to keep the head nodding back and forth.
Style:
This was one of the intangibles Kane brought to the game. In the videos Kane sported three piece suites, and slick warm up outfits. His demeanor and body language were both aggressive and smooth simultaneously. That dichotomy seems to be lost on many rappers today. Kane's bravado never overshadowed his fierce intelligence. In fact, Kane's gift was his ability to take that aggression and bravado and channel it through his incredible ability to articulate and construct with his words.
If you truly love Hip Hop, you must have a copy of this in your collection.

Not much of a Disney Princess CD!.......2006-05-04
Only "Kiss the Girl" "Reflection" and "Once Upon a Dream" are favorites. It was so strange that "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" which was from "The Lion King" was in this album. This was not from a Disney Princess Movie! And why the song from "Aladdin & the King of Thieves" can be recorded in a Disney Princess album?
I love Disney Princess very much, and I love listening to the wonderful and sweet voices of the Princesses, for example, Ariel, Belle and Pocahontas, even Mulan. Well, where are the songs of the Princesses? And I don't like the songs from "Cinderella-2: Dreams Come True", I think they wouldn't be so terrible if there were no classic Princess songs as reference substance!
This album is really unworthy. It was neither fit for adults nor children, even a Disney fan won't love this. This album might make Disney fans and your kid disappointed, even angry. We want to listen to REAL Disney Princess songs! What we want is not this confusing album. I hope that there won't be any Disney Favoties albums like this. It's really disappointing. I have to say this even though it's not nice: If you buy this, you might be taken in by this. Save your money to buy other better off Disney albums!
The Real Reason to Get This CD.......2005-12-31
The CD begins with "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" by Meg(ara) from Disney's "Hercules." This is one of my favorite Disney movies and this is an excellent track. Meg tries to deny her feelings for Hercules, before finally sort of admitting that she is in love.
Next is "Belle" from "Beauty and the Beast." A wonderful tune of dreams and romance that was nominated for an Academy Award.
Who doesn't enjoy "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" Featuring funny bits by Timon and Pumbaa, excellent harmonies and singing by both Simba and Nala.
"If I Can't Love Her" is from the stage show of "Beauty and the Beast." It's my least favorite track on the CD, but it's still fairly decent and interesting to hear for those who haven't seen this stage show.
"Reflection" is from "Mulan" and I consider it to be possibly be the best track from that movie. Is Mulan is a Disney princess? Well, you can debate that all you want --- I suppose at this point, she's royalty, so I guess she counts.
"Out of Thin Air" is my favorite song "Aladdin and the King of Thieves." Aladdin and Jasmine sing about what it would be like for Aladdin to finally find his father. Jasmine tells Aladdin that he doesn't just come out of thin air. The music on this recalls "A Whole New World" for me.
"Kiss the Girl" is from "The Little Mermaid." It's not my favorite song from that movie --- I would have preferred "Part of Your World." But it'll do all right. And it can't be said that Ariel isn't a Disney princess --- after all, she does marry Prince Eric.
"Once Upon a Dream" is a classic! It's from "Sleeping Beauty." Sure, the little kiddies today may not entirely appreciate this, but I think it's wonderful that they would include a classic like this.
Now, part of the reason for this CD's release was to have a place for the music from the Disney "Cindrella" sequel "Cindrella II." Yes, this is a direct-to-DVD release, but it's a good one. This CD is the only place to find these excellent songs, all performed by Brooke Allison. They also all (except the last one) follow a theme of "being yourself:"
"Follow Your Heart" is about a time when Cinderella was assigned to the preparations for the royal ball. She was given all sorts of instructions, such as not opening the curtains and not inviting commoners in. Finally, she decided to just do things her own way. A lively, upbeat, positive theme.
"The World Is Looking Up To" is about the mouse Jaq and when he decides to become human. Another fun track about being yourself.
"It's What's Inside That Counts" comes from when Cinderella's stepsister Anastasia fell in love. She thought she'd get all dolled up, but learned that she can be loved just for being her.
Finally, "Put It Together" is a wonderfully fun techno remix of the classic "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo." I was surprised this works, but it does, splendidly.
So if you're looking for a Disney CD with great music and are willing to look past any preconceived ideas, then snap this CD up.
Another Repackaging Of Princess Favorites.......2004-04-21
Thank you very much for your time
Whose Princess Favorites???.......2003-10-15
My daughter is a huge Disney Princess fan, and wants to hear the songs from the Princess movies non-stop. She's only 3, but she does know her princesses, and the girl from Hercules and Nala from the Lion King are definitely NOT princesses! This is also the first time that I've seen Mulan grouped with the princesses.
We wanted music from the classic Disney Princess movies that she loves - Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty & The Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. I do not put Cinderella 2 and Aladdin and the Forty Thieves in that category - were those even released in the theaters, or direct to video?
I am generally a fan of the Disney compilations, but this one feels like a marketing rip-off. Get the Disney Classics 5 CD set if you really want the Princess Favorites - they may be spread out over all the discs, but they are the songs you want to hear!
Save your money!.......2002-04-30
There is no Ariel...just a song by Sebastian. No Cinderella, no Snow White, and why would they place an unknown song from the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast which only has been heard by the people attending the musical?? At least Sleeping Beauty made the grade. My daughter has the movie Cinderella II which the CD promotes, but is not familiar with them to really enjoy these 4 songs.
Again, save your money...some day maybe Disney will set aside some of their money and marketing hunger and put out a CD that any 5 year old princess will enjoy singing along with...BTW isn't Beauty and the Beast being re-released...oh yea, thats why that endless song about Belle is on there..Bon Jour!

A delightfully buoyant, mock-creepy collection of film scores from Hollywood's first and best call for quirk, strangeness, and charm. Focusing on Elfman's post-1992 work (much of it for director Tim Burton), this 2 CD set features excerpts from Edward Scissorhands, To Die For, and Batman Returns, among other lesser items. -- Jeff BatemanCustomer Reviews:
Priceless, at any price.......2007-07-06
There are no words to describe what this music does to me. I did try listening to some of the other tracks, but they didn't even come close. I rate this music right up there with the 1971 score for "Jane Eyre" by John Willams... and that's pretty high :D
Good overview.......2007-04-18
Great Music!!!!!!!!!.......2005-09-08
Very nice for a Danny Elfman collection.......2005-08-02
Bring on Volume 3.......2005-05-04
Edward Scissorhands is magical, Black Beauty is a rollercoaster of emotion, and Dolores Claiborne makes me want to find the nearest piano. This is not a "Most Popular" compilation, rather it aptly showcases Danny Elfman's (and Orchestrator, Steve Bartek's) brilliance and wide range of style.
Every suite has an Elfman signature, such as the layered complexity which never sounds overdone, or the use of a choir as an instrument.
This (and Volume 1) are examples of the work of a modern day composer who consistently stands out as one of the best.
If you like this and have the spare cash, grab the individual scores from some of the movies he has worked on, including "Men In Black", "Spiderman", "Batman", "Batman Returns", "Nightmare Before Christmas", "Edward Scissorhands", "Mars Attacks" and so many more.

Born in the Medina district of Dakar, Senegal, Kane's sound reflects an age-old connection between various Arabic cultures and those of West Africa, as Islam found its way below the Sahara even as black slaves were being driven North. Initially inspired by a visit to Morocco, where he encountered and became mesmerized by gnawa trance music played by descendants of his long-displaced cousins, Kane later mastered the guimbri, a three-stringed bass played by devotees of the sect. The present release, which was produced by Martin Swan of the noted Scottish folk band Mouth Music and recorded between Scotland and Paris, is redolent of the composer's ties to gnawa, Ali Farka Toure's Malian "blues" and the Mbalax created by Kane's famous countryman, Youssou N'Dour, all flavored by teachings of the Baye Fall, a dreadlocked Muslim brotherhood. Aside from the resonant, flexible beauty of the bandleader's baritone, the overall impression is of an almost regal confidence. It is plain in every note he sings that he knows exactly who he is and what he wishes to impart. Suffice it to say that the album is a must-have and Nuru Kane is definitely a force to be reckoned with. --Christina RodenAlbum Description
Nuru Kane was born and raised in Medina, Dakar, and his distinctive take on Senegalese music explores the connections between the music of North and West Africa - a musical journey across the Sahara. This album captures Nuru's range of influences, from his blues-led solo songs, reminiscent of Ali Farka Touré, through to the driving gnawa trance that forms the backbone of his pulsating live performances. Unhindered, unrestricted and full of musical surprises, Sigil's instrumentation is primarily acoustic, but the results are electric.Customer Reviews:
one of the best collections of songs I have heard in a while.......2007-06-23
Highly recommended to any one who likes the blues or jazz or flamenco or reggae or ... check it out! Would love to see this music live!
Awesome.......2006-05-12
It has succeeded in fine fashion. The feel of the album is natural and spontaneous like a live show and the variety of the chosen tracks display Nuru's adaptability and enormous talent. Nuru's singing, the harmony vocals and the ever-changing rhythms are all wholly seductive, aided by creative guitar playing and interesting use of percussion. There's a distinctively sensual narrative style in the ballads, which even includes talking, and longer numbers unfold naturally into different sections.
On this acoustic album Nuru plays the guimbri (three-stringed bass), guitars, percussion and sings. He is joined by his small band on oud, sanza, guitars, n'goni, tamas, percussion and a variety of vocal backing. Martin Swan adds some finishing touches on violin and accordion, and there's even a plaintive Welsh flute.
One of the features of the album is the fusion of North and West African music with the trance music of the Gnawan people, descendants of slaves brought across the Sahara. The guimbri is one of their chief instruments. Nuru Kane belongs to the Baye Fall brotherhood (that includes Cheikh Lo) so there's a spiritual Islamic element as well. Add all the other influences and the result is an energetic and uplifting musical experience.
Simple recording techniques have elegantly captured the colourful multi-layered sound brimming with confidence and life. Contemplative one moment, driving the next, the album takes the listener on an exhilarating journey. Awesome.

In the mid 1980s, Kieran Kane made his name as half of the O'Kanes, an acoustic duo that achieved surprising mainstream success with acoustic music that was contemporary yet possessed undeniable echoes of the past--music that grows in stature as time passes. After their split, Kane continued his solo work, most notably in a partnership with songwriter Kevin Welch, fiddler Tammy Rogers, and a number of others in Dead Reckoning Records, an ensemble of complementary voices and talents with similarly traditional ties. This collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin, a sequel to their 2004 release You Can't Save Everybody, features 11 numbers: nine originals, one traditional tune, and a blues cover. The vocals are loose and relaxed, the less-is-more acoustic accompaniment enhanced throughout by Kaplan's instrumental virtuosity. An eerie, gothic feel permeates both Welch's "Satan's Paradise" and the traditional title song. "Postcard from Mexico" has a raw, swampy ambience. This marvelous organic unity continues to the end with a rousing acoustic revival of the Little Walter blues standard "Mellow Down Easy." It's no surprise that the album's refreshingly devoid of the arty, self-important pretense that dogs many less experienced Americana singer-songwriters. These guys were doing it before "Americana" existed. --Rich KienzleAlbum Description
Musicians, songwriters and old friends: when Kieran Kane and Kevin Welch sit down together, the room is instantly engulfed in a softy glowing bonhomie. Not a raging, giddy friendship - something more insidious, a bit sinister. Deeper. It's a glow stoked by fast-flying sarcasm and the musical way Kieran and Kevin seamlessly complete one another's sentences. Lost John Dean finds these industry mavericks picking up where You Can't Save Everybody left off -- featuring an entire album of roots music gems from the pens of the original Godfathers of Americana. Joined once again by multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin who flavors the gumbo with just the right spices.Customer Reviews:

Each song stands out, unique and individual. It's an album full of country blues "hits" that can each stand on it's own. That's awesome stuff, in this or any era of recorded music. Fans of Americana, country, blues, singer-songwriter buy this. Money well spent. Highly recommended.
