Though it follows a standard movie formula and predictable plot twists, the film Hope Floats is saved in part by the above-average performance of Sandra Bullock, portraying a separated woman who finds her way back to her hometown in Texas, daughter in tow. The soundtrack seems to follow in due course, a collection of country and rock (thanks to the Rolling Stones) acts adding shades of twang to songs that, for the most part, all sound fairly familiar. The duds of the bunch, Bryan Adams's "When You Love Someone" and Sheryl Crow's "In Need," are saved in large part by some surprise keepers, courtesy of Garth Brooks, the Mavericks, and Gillian Welch. The covers are interesting enough. Brooks's take on Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love" is modest and pithy and a far cry from the overblown Trisha Yearwood performance of the same tune that codas the collection. --Jason Verlinde

This was not the soundtrack that I wanted. I wanted the soundtrack with the Garth Brooks song on it and some of the other more recognizable songs from the movie - not instrumentals. I was really disappointed and will continue to try to find the soundtrack I want.

For some confused reviewers out there, just to set the story straight-the song "Make You Feel My Love" was written by Bob Dylan, not Garth Brooks. I've got nothing against Garth, but give credit where credit is due!

A great album........2005-04-06

Just wanted to let anyone reading these reviews that the review by MusicFan posted September 2, 2003 about how misleading these reviews are, is completely wrong!! Musicfan is talking about a totally different CD. He/She wanted the album with "various artists" but bought the wrong one containing the "original movie soundtrack". This is a great album and worth every cent. Any of the reviews that refer to this album with 11 tracks is in the wrong place. The "various artists" album has 13 tracks. Just trying to clear up some confusion!

Whatever happened to Lila?.......2007-06-11

Lila was a hit at such a young age, battling it out with other young stars at the time like Leann Rimes, and Jessica Andrews. Whatever happend to Lila? Her debut album was her best, and she was amazing, showing a maturity beyond her years. There was the young and fun " I wanna fall in love", and the original "yippy ky yay" that was fun to listen to.
But there were the deep and soulful songs "A rain of angels", "i feel for you", and "almost over you" that would still be hits today!

Oh- and "Just one little kiss" too....a hit from the album that is as fresh and fun today as it was 10 years ago!

You must sample " Already somebody's lover" as well. There are just so many gems on this album.

Great Voice But, Okay Album!.......2005-06-28

The first & only song I have ever heard from Lila Mcann was I Wanna Fall In Love. I never even knew she had any other albums or hit songs & I did not hear much about her either. That says something. I love the song I Wanna Fall In Love & I have wanted to own it for a very long time. Finally I had the Opportunity to get her debut album with that song on it for Cheap at a Garage Sale.I thougt since that was such a great song & she has a pretty voice I thought the rest of the songs would be just as good or almost as good as I wanna Fall In Love but, when I listened to the whole album I found out that the rest of the songs were okay & kind of plain.Another thing I do not know why there is not a single forI Wanna Fall In Love. Almost every singer has cd singles for their hit songs or songs they release. Why doesn't Lila have a single for this song? I guess I might just have to burn that song on a cd with other people's songs Or keep the whole album & play only that song. Lila does have great voice but, she definately has not gotten very far. Out of any country singer who released a debut album when they were a teenager I think the only one who made it really big was LeAnn Rimes. Maybe there is still hope for Lila to turn it around!

Lila McCann shows tremendous potential as a singer but this collection of forgettable tracks doesn't do much to enhance her ability. "Down Came a Blackbird" is unconvincing coming from someone so young. Let's hope this promising young talent gets better songwriters!

This is a beautiful cd. I have been searching for this cd for a long time...he self-titled one... I just love her voice. I remember the first time I heard "I wanna fall in love". I was so down and this song lifted me up. I just got down with a breakup with a guy that I truly loved. "I'm almost over you" put int perspective that I need to get over him. Although I loved him, I need to get on wiht my life. Now, te only song I listen to is "Rain of Angels". My sister recently went into the hospital with Cardiomyopothy, and I have been praying to the Goddess to le her stay with us. As I am writing this, I see her face and hear Lila's song, and am crying. I thank you, Lila, for singing such a beautiful song. This cd is great! I recommend it for anyone who is having troubles in their life, or just wants to be happy.

In 2001, four years after her debut and approaching the big Two-O, Lila McCann still conjures up a young Reba or Dolly with her voice, a formidable asset compared to the weakness of some of McCann's peers. This is the best CD I've heard in a very long time! This girl can really sing and her song choices are great. It's now 2007 and I was just introduced to this, and I'm sorry I missed it for so long! I don't know what ever happened to Lila, but she sure did a great thing with this CD.

This Cd is about a two star album. If I had to grade it I would say it's about a D+ this is a far cry from an A. The vocals are weak and sound like a little girl with an undeveloped voice singing. In addition, it doesn't really seem like she knows what she is singing about. The songs go deep into adult content and I doubt she knows what this stuff actually means. She has no passion in these songs like many sings have...Dolly Parton isn't a great singer but she's passionate about the music (and actually knows what the song is about). Lila needs to grow up, take some voice lessons, and then make an album. At least I didn't give this a 1 star...that 1 star goes to Ashlee Simpson.

I still feel that her songs on Lila were better. some of the songs here seem mediocre. Some songs even sound alike. the best on here are complete and she remembers love.

Lila has a great voice , no doubt about that, I think I would chuck it if it wasn't for Lila's voice. I still will listen, but I might not wear it out like the album Lila.

Best known for 1998's No. 1, "I Wanna Fall in Love," Lila McCann is one of the standouts in Nashville's latest batch of country brat-packers. McCann possesses a sweet, exuberant, full-throated voice that's vaguely reminiscent of a de-twanged pubescent Reba McEntire. On Something in the Air, McCann's second album, she usually sounds more callow than convincing when she tries to tackle "grown-up" themes--and producer Mark Spiro's generic arrangements don't help much. But McCann shines when she stays within her emotional comfort zone on songs such as "Kiss Me," which deals with the fumbling anxiety of that very first teenage lip-lock, and "Crush," which takes a surprisingly clear-eyed look at the temporary insanity of adolescent infatuation. "I Will Be" is an especially lovely song that earnestly and movingly expresses the hopes and fears of growing up. Not to wish trouble on anyone, but when McCann gets a few more years' worth of hard knocks under her belt, she may well be unstoppable; then again, she may be already. --Bob Allen

A great person, a great voice, a great album!.......2003-07-06

Hey, like most of you, I think that Lila is also sooo underrated, it's not fair because she is really good. She has an outstanding voice not like most other country singers. I personally know because I have a karaoke system in my house and I pop in CD's every once in a while to sing to when I'm bored. Now, I think I have fairly an average voice and man, I can't pull off the songs as good as Lila can on this CD, while I think I'm better than Shania Twain when I sing her songs, because I guess they don't require that much vocal talent and does not have a lot of difficulty. Man, I got to give it up for Lila for doing so great on all the songs. So yeah, this is a great album with a great variety of songs, from the upbeat dances and ballads, to the inbetweens--it just has it all. Want to find some more underrated artists? Check out Hoku and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

A true review.......2003-04-21

This is not Lila's best work. Her first and third albums are by far the best. There are a few good songs on this album, but some seemed too childish for a person with her great voice to be singing. If you can't get enough of Lila, then I'd recommended getting this album because it may not be her best but most of it is worth listening to. If you want another great song that's not on any of her albums check out "To Get Me To You" off of the Hope Floats Soundtrack.

I have a wide variety of music interests. Im usually not much of a country listener, but Lila is definiteley an exception! She is talented, beautiful, and a good role model! In this CD you see Lila's voice mature since her previous album "Lila."

She sings about more mature issues and this album has a lot of songs about *love*~ Some of the upbeat songs that stand out are With You, Rymes With, Crush, and Hit By Love. Those are all great songs to listen to!

She also has some ballads that I think are absolutely beautifully sung~ You're Gone, Kiss Me Now, and When You Walked Into My Life. Theres not one song thats not worth listening to!

I dont use the skip button when I'm listening to this CD~ It's a great cd that I reccommend to buy! She's one of those singers that is unique and deserves more publicity than shes been getting lately! It's worth the money and you wont be sorry! :-)

I was perusing Amazon for various artists that I have not heard from lately and I ran across this CD. I listened the clips on the product page and was interested enough to purchase. I am glad I did. This collection pretty much included all of Lilas' most popular tracks. It brought back some good memories. I would recommend this CD for any one who was, is or would like to be a Lila fan.

I am, as of recent, a huge Lila fan, she has a wonderful voice and her new album is sure to be great. If you like leann Rimes or Faith Hill, I would recommend that you purchase this cd. It is definatly a winner!

Transition Phase.......2001-04-21

Lila McCann is still young in the industry, although she has been a part of it for a couple of years now. This CD is the beginning of "her" music. What we were all exposed to before was the commercial music that her label felt she should produce. After listening to this new single, and the b-side, I have concluded that what we hear now is Lila. It's not quite country, it's not quite pop. She's somewhere in the transition of the two.

Shania blazed the trail, and it was followed by Faith. Lila, however, has decided to take a different path and is blazing her own new route.

I wish her success and greatly recommend that you purchase this single. It will provide much listening pleasure, and will give you a taste of the wonderful sounds her fans are anticipating with her third release.

After purchasing this new and stellar single by Lila McCann, I am 100% sure that her 3rd album entitled COMPLETE, out June 26, 2001, will be her best yet!!! COME A LITTLE CLOSER is a very uptempo number with great lyrics and a chorus that draws you in. The second track on the single is great as well and is a standard ballad.
