Early Dolly.......2007-05-14
Great sample of Dolly when she started. Porter Wagoner not at his best but Dolly was great. Especially "Jeannie is afraid of the Dark"
A fine collection.......2006-02-05
There are a few collections of Dolly and Porter out there, but this has to be the most complete. I had reservations about intially purchasing this since it was released by "TeeVee Records", but I will admit, I was wrong. It is a fine collection of original recordings, and "TeeVee Records" should be commended for this release. There are 20 numbers here, and I'm glad to say, there is no filler material; all of the songs are among their most popular. Besides the lighter material such as "We'll Get ahead Someday" and "Better Move it on Home", their two most tragic songs about dead and dying kids are also included, with "Jeannie's Afraid of the Dark" and "Silver Sandals". Get this album, as it will quickly become part of your regular rotation.
Porter & Dolly.......2005-09-07
Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton - 20 Greatest Hits, is one of the best I have heard, it has all great songs. Porter and Dolly are one of the finest duet couples in country music and this recording of their 20 greatest hits will attest to it.
Great Listening.......2005-08-31
I received my merchandise in timely manner, the quality was excellent. The cd perfect condition. Would order from again.
I just love Amazon.
Awesome CD.......2005-08-26
This is one of the best CD's to date that I own. The only thing missing is some of dolly and porters funny songs like the ones listed on Two of A Kind CD.

Customer Reviews:
Dolly is the greatest country singer.......2007-04-05
I love country music, and Dolly is pure country. This CD includes all of Dolly's older hits. Some of my favorite tracks on this CD are: Islands In The Stream (classic duet with Kenny Rogers), Two Doors Down (a very fast country hit), & Do I Ever Cross Your Mind (slow and very meaningful.) Dolly sounds very beautiful on the entire disc. She is a true legend and the greatest!!!
Her original Hits album.......2006-01-22
This album was originally released in 1982. Actually, it was the first Dolly album I ever bought, of course back then it was on vinyl. The album was a big success at the time. The original pressing of the album included 12 songs, one of them being "Hard Candy Christmas" from the "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas" soundtrack. That song was dropped once "Islands In The Stream" became a big hit. At the time "Greatest Hits" was the only Dolly album where you could find "Islands". The original LP also included a gatefold cover that opened up to show a bunch of Dolly photos from thruout the years covered on the album, roughly 1977 thru 1982. The back cover featured shots of Dolly from "Whorehouse". In 1985 the album was released on CD. It contained all the same elements of the original album (however as with all versions of the album at that time, "Hard Candy Christmas" had been replaced). The CD had all the photos and liner notes that LP had. RCA was among the first record labels to issue CDs, Dolly had four albums issued on CD at the beginning of the format. "Greatest Hits", "Real Love", "Rhinestone" and her Christmas album with Kenny Rogers. All of these went out of print very quickly. Only "Greatest Hits" and the Christmas album were re-issued later on. By then RCA was putting out "budget" versions of the albums, removing songs that were on the original LP's. "Greatest Hits" lost three songs and all of the artwork, except the cover. The Christmas album also lost the Kenny Rogers solo songs, as well as the lyrics and artwork, except the cover shot.
Today original copies of these CD's can be found only on eBay, but the later re-issues can be found anywhere. Back in the day, this was the only Dolly album to combine "Here You Come Again" with "9 To 5", "Islands In The Stream" etc. Today these songs have been reissued many many times making this album redundant. If you're a collector search out the original 1985 CD version. Good luck!
The Original Greatest Hits.......2003-01-12
This CD may be getting some bad rep from those who do not know the history of it. It's true that it doesn't have the 20 song compilations that the imports have these days, but this is the original "Greatest Hits" album of Dolly, originally released in the early 80's. It went double platinum I think when it was first released. The album has a history, with the original having "Hard Candy Christmas" and the remakes not having it. It looks like the CD is still in print, with only a few copies left however. In the mid-80's there weren't as many complilations as there are today of Dolly, and back in it's day, this CD was a #1 album to have! It still contains Dolly's classic hit singles, and is great to pop in your CD player and listen to on a nice, quiet evening at home.
Inexcusable.......2002-07-14
Dolly Parton's 1982 album GREATEST HITS is a poor excuse for a greatest hits album. What was RCA thinking? First we only have 9 tracks on here. On the cassette, there are 3 additional songs which do not show up on the CD, which makes no sense. "Applejack", "Heartbreak Express" and "Me And Little Andy" fail to make an appearance on the CD. Instead we have 9 songs, which don't even make up 30 minutes of music on this CD. There are some great songs though, like a new version of "I Will Always Love You", and classics like "It's All Wrong But It's All Right", "Two Doors Down", "9 to 5", "Islands in the Stream", "But You Know I Love You", "Here You Come Again", "Old Flames (Cant Hold A Candle To You)" and "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind". Nice songs, but overall disapointing considering her catalog, and the amount of music each CD can hold, this is not good. Save your money and buy another compilation which has all of these songs, and more.
The Most Ridiculous Album Cover Ever!.......2002-03-11
Dolly's Greatest Hits...A fairly obvious title I suppose, but whose idea was that ridiculous album cover? I can't decide whether to be offended or to die laughing. That may be a natural pose for Dolly, but it just doesn't look right. As for the music: It's a decent sampling of Dolly's early country pop fare but is rendered almost as ridiculous as the cd cover when you realize there are only 9 songs on this disc (for a most ungenerous total of 29 minutes).

Waiting for the Video.......2001-11-22
I listened to this CD and think it is one of the best I have heard from Dolly. Everything I hear from her is good to listen to but her version of He's Alive is great. I saw her sing this on TV and was amazed. I hope to see a video of this come out soon. Dolly your one of the greatest talents to appear in any genre. One day my Fiancé and I hope to meet you and tell you that in person (as if you don't already hear people say that to you. ~¿~ )
Another Great Album From Dolly........2001-03-30
These Are The Hits From 1989 To 1995. Dolly Has A Great Voice. I Have Been Listening To Her Since I Was A Kid. And She Is Still Around Today. I Like The Songs "Why'd You Come In Here Looking Like That" The 1989 Number 1 "Yellow Roses", "White Limozeen", The 1991 Duet With Ricky Van Shelton On "The Rockin' Years", And The 1995 Virsion Of "I'll Always Love You" With Vince Gill. This Is The Best CD.
Same old, same old.......2001-02-02
Fourteen billion different compilations later and BMG/RCA continues to offer little of what as been out of print for years. Most of these songs are readily available elsewhere, but BMG/RCA is just too lazy to go digging for songs that are less common and more worth hearing. This particular compilation isn't the worst, and it actually has a notable highlight or two ("To Daddy" comes to mind) but by and large it is just same old, same old.
Oops! Wrong cover and wrong editorial review.......2000-06-25
I just thought I would bring your attention to the fact that the cover displayed and the editorial review are for "The Essential Dolly Parton" (first volume), not "I Will Always Love You and Other Greatest Hits". This is a good chart overview of her Columbia Records years, from the late 1980's through most of the 1990's. My favorites from this collection would include "Silver And Gold", a gospel number with Vince Gill harmonizing, and "He's Alive", another gospel number that showcases Dolly's vibrant vocals with a gospel choir. Whatever else you can say about Dolly, you gotta love her music!
good cd with a really great song and a bad song.......1999-09-17
I really liked the song eagle when she flies. It seems to touch up the CD. Romeo isn't very good, though.

A repackaging of repackaging!.......2007-04-27
The one star review has nothing to do with the music, for all of the songs included are winners. But, RCA/BMG have repackaged Dolly's music so many times over the years, it appears that someone is getting so lazy that they're not even making the effort anymore. For this 2-disc collection is merely 2 previous collections: 1987's "The Very Best Of," and 1997's "Encore Collection," both two skimpy budget-line compilations. (That is why you find "But You Know I Love You" twice on here!) Save your money, there are many, many other and superior compilations of Dolly's music out there by RCA/BMG and Columbia/Sony (which have recently merged to one company, giving them shared access to Dolly's music from the mid 60s to late 90s!)
Dolly is the best country artist of all time..........2001-01-11
I am not at all a fan of country music, but I make an exception when it comes to Dolly Parton. Her songs are brilliantly written and performed. I love the songs "Coat of Many Colors," "Jolene," & "I Will Always Love You." Any fan of Dolly should buy this collection. A+
Nice but redundant.......2000-06-05
This collection of hits from Dolly is a nice collection however, it is very redundant as there are already several hits packages out there with these very same tracks. The set is so redundant that it includes "But You Know I Love You" twice! Why is anyones guess. It's a budget release and really isn't essential to the die-hard fan.
Classic songs.......2000-04-26
The music on this set revisits some of Dolly's classics with a good mix of up tempo numbers and heartfelt ballads. My only complaint is that they didn't fit them all onto one CD instead of two.
More of the same.......2000-01-16
Yet another in a long line of ubiquitous Dolly Parton collections that draw far too heavily from her pop sellout and mostly ignores her more vital country work. Just who is it at RCA and BMG that is responsible for these lackluster, uninspired compilations? Most of these songs are readily available elsewhere, and while this one does collect a few of her fine country songs, their mingling with slick, safe, overproduced pop songs just serve to further frustrate those of us who long for a much more compelling collection, or better yet, reissues of Parton's full country catalog.
