About the Artist
Arvel is a classically trained musician and attending ASU in Tempe, Arizona and UI - Champaign/Urbana, Arvel said, "I know how to play the violin, now I want to know how to create music." He began improvising with traditional folk and old-time music picking up bluegrass and country music.

While living in Scottsdale, Arizona, Arvel enjoyed 6 years playing fiddle for the legendary Glen Campbell; touring the world as part of the Glen Campbell "Good Time Hour’ where he played alongside such greats as John Hartford, Jim Stafford, and Nicolette Larson. In 1991 Arvel moved to Nashville and continued to play and tour with other major label artists including Clay Walker, Louise Mandrell, Tom T. Hall, Ray Price, and Loretta Lynn.

Now as a solo artist, Arvel performs nationwide in concerts, at pow wows, fairs, festivals, conventions, and more to a growing legion of fans. He has quickly become one of the fastest rising Native American stars in the U.S.

Arvel released his first album on Singing Wolf Records in 2001, "Fiddle Tunes For The Birds", an incredible combination of traditional fiddle favorites and original tunes -- all with bird names in the titles. "For the Birds" was nominated for two NAMA (Native American Music Association) awards in 2002. "Christmas with Arvel & Fred" is collaboration with long-time music partner Fred Rothert of traditional Christmas tunes in styles of bluegrass, Celtic, and swing. "My Cabin Don’t Leak (when it don’t rain) - Arkansas Traveler" is the second collaboration with Rothert, this time an American roots album of classic folk music performed like you were hearing it from Grandma’s front porch."

His eclectic experience - Classical, Irish/Celtic, New Age, country, bluegrass, Cajun, blues, jazz, western swing and Native American - makes him a truly versatile and interesting player. This versatility shines throughout the highly acclaimed contemporary Native American album, "Animal Totems," nominated for Best Instrumental Recording at the Nammys; and "Rakish Paddy." His latest project, "Big Chief Quetoos, Paiute Country fiddle" was released at the April 2003 Gathering of Nations powwow in Albuquerque, NM. Arvel is currently in the studio with Grammy nominated William Eaton working on their third collaboration.

In addition to his own albums, Arvel has produced albums for Native American Folk/Rock artist, Perry Joe Gabbard, "Cherokee Hill," and a traditional powwow drum CD called "First Medicine" by the Medicine River Singers. Singing Wolf Records has just released J.J. Kent’s first Native American CD called "Come and Get to Know Me." Two other artists have been signed to the label and will be in the studio this winter.

Arvel’s music is available from Drumbeat Indian Arts, New Leaf Distribution, Four Winds Trading Company, Borders Books & Music Cafes, Tower Records, and other independent New Age and music stores. In his spare time, Arvel founded the Council for Native American Music for Native American musicians of all musical genres to be able to showcase their own material. In conjunction with this showcase, Arvel has developed an entire educational entertainment show featuring Native drums, singers, dancers, musicians and other performing artists.

Product Description
What Arvel Bird does well is produce theme albums, i.e., Birdstock (all fiddle tunes with Bird names); Animal Totems (contemporary Native American violin with names of animals); and Rakish Paddy (popular fiddle tunes from the 18th-20th centuries).

What he does best is play the fiddle or is that violin? Either way, Big Chief Quetoos is no exception. Arvel takes several well-known, well-loved traditional cowboy tunes with Indian names, writes a few of his own because he's an incredible composer in his own right and ends the 13 song CD with a surprise. You'll have to buy the CD to find out what that is, but I promise it'll knock your socks off. Turn up the stereo!
