Outstanding CD.......2006-02-08
In this CD, Z-Trip's music makes you feel every sense of your being. This CD defintely ROCKS!!!
YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-01-25
Didn't the Executioners already do an album like this, like three or four times (all of which sucked tremendously--except when they worked with Mike Patton)? This sounds to me like a Sprite sampler mix--which is even worse than those Scion mixes, which are little more than a serious of incomplete and very biased "name dropping." The sad part is that Z is name dropping on fools who are known to jump on anyone's track, which makes me wonder if he pissed everyone else off or what. I can barely make it past this terrible first track with Soup (like, who?). At this point in the history of hip hop it's high time for a new mark on the timeline, and this certainly is miles from being that. There is little if any exploration here. You can totally be an old school crate digger and still have breakthroughs (IE: People Under The Stairs or Blackalicious). RJD2 was even barely beleivable when he did this kind of showcase thing on his first CD--the difference with him was that he has some sense of grace and he has the guts to make a decision and stick to that sound (which was a sound with party beats, but also a ton of heart and soul). Basically, if you think that J-5 are the greatest rap group of all time or that Linkin Park don't deserve ANY of the hate, then by all means this will not dissapoint you at all. But for me, all these party beats, Lord Finesse cadences, and undescriptive lyrics amount to little more than another DJ centered showcase of artists that hopefully didn't cost much to hire. Even the typically forward thinking "Busdriver" steps into the p0rno all flacid like the track is a pillow to take a big fat nap on. Seriously, do we need another one of these kind of albums? This album is to the Scratch Pickles what Eminem is to the Beastie Boys. To make another even more degrading comparison: it's like box wine--it tastes OK when your already drunk but afterwards you get one hell of a stomach ache. Even worse, it's like a wine sampler and I for one already know what kind of wine I like. People have told me that Z is an arrogant egomaniac and I didn't want to beleive it because DJ-P is such a nice guy, but yeah--this CD is clearly full-of-itself and made for those who actually liked the second Dialated Peoples CD (YUCK!). Swamp's album was corny too (he probably even laughs at himself), but at least it took alot risks to be unique (Swamp Vs. Buckethead--when can I get that?). In the words of Simon Cowell: "this is just way too safe for me." I think I need to go wash my mouth out now with some Mixmaster Mike or Q-Bert.
downshifting..........2005-12-21
This great underground master DJ deservedly gets a release on a major record label... but there are too many rappers, not enough personality in the production, and obvious restraint in the sampling (surely the result of copyright clearance issues.) Compared to Z-Trip's amazing and audacious Uneasy Listening with DJ-P and Live at the Future Primitive with Radar, this is just a bore... yawn...
Not Expected.......2005-12-02
I have to first start out saying that I am more of a downtempo fan. Because of this, I only could only repeatedly listen to a few of the songs on the cd. The mc's distract me more than add to the beats themselves. Z's reliance on guest artists during the bulk of the cd made most of the tracks filler. Last time that I checked, it was a Z-trip cd, not Ztrip produces. The tracks that are solely Z-trip, About Face and 3rd gear, are my favorite. I would like the first part of the final track, but found that the mood oppressive. The voice guy talks about "violent revolution". Sorry to bring politics into this, but what kind of revolution are you going to bring to the most powerful country in the world, especially with second clips in an overly dramatic song? The second part, about 30 seconds, has a cool mix between gospel and drums. I have heard a lot of mixes before, but not that combination. This right here is the good part of Z, he isn't a back up dj, he is his own act.
Recommend listening to tracks individually then buying, or getting by whatever other means, what you want. It isn't really a concept cd, although some songs flow into each other.
Beats.......2005-11-08
Z-trip's new album shifting gears has very rythmic beats that you could easily listen to and sway your head. The song everything changes featuring aceyalone and mystic is one of the best songs on the album. The soothing voice of Mystic and the dope flow of aceyalone and z-trip together. The turntablist style so unique it sounds alot like old school hip-hop like when people first began learning what you could do with a mixer a record player getting beats from you 8-track recorder. Comming up with funky beats and dope words to flow with it . Just a reminderthat there are stilol good musicians out there in our world that hypes up the worst albums. The song breakfast club with Murs is a funny yet fun song to listen to when bored becuase you could eaily relate to the lyrics.I hope whoever read this finds it helpful

This is a great CD. I know, "A four-star for a great CD." This is a great CD for any fan, if you are new to Cooder Graw, this is a great first purchase. It's not as emotionally drawn as their self titled CD, but it keeps you involved through the whole CD. "Willie's Guitar" is as great as "Motel Lights" in their self-titled, but doesn't carry a crowd quite the same. Once again, if you are new to Cooder Graw, this is a great first buy of theirs, then buy their self-titled for a better look into their music and a better written album, in my opinion.

Goddammm that DJ made my day !!!.......2005-04-27
Having followed Mr Z since about 98, he finally releases a mainstream CD, which is something of a departure, believe me, trying to get hold of anything from this elusive DJ is a result. So has he sold out ?? No, he definitely has not, although this is not Uneasy Listening Vol 2, its not a mix CD, although all tracks blend into each other effortlessly. The tracks are so diverse, you never know what to expect next, soul, funk, rock, hip hop and that is Z-Trip`s trade mark, never a dull moment throughout. Some purists might persist that this is a confused CD, trust me he has hit the mark, when listening to this CD you're feelings are taken for a journey of bends, you just cant see what's coming !! Drill Sergeants, Breakfast Cereal's, ambient wave sounds lapping on a beach, yes really !! Suffice to say at the prices I have seen this CD for, you really cant go wrong, the only catch being that you will want more and more of this maestro of the decks, and as you will soon find out, that is not such an easy journey :>)
On a personal note, the outstanding track for me is "Shock and Awe" such power and emotion from a song, listen to the lyric's, Z-Trip and Chuck D it really doesn't get deeper or nastier !!

nycfs.......2005-06-17
I bought this soundtrack for the cool music heard during the suspenseful parts of the film. After sorting it out, I've come to the conclusion that there are only three tracks listeners are really looking for. The three most identiful tracks are #1 Main Title, #7 Ice Pick Mike, and #9 Shifting Gears. These are the three that are the most recognizable. Don't get me wrong, it's worth the cost just to have these three, but the rest of the cd contains the jazzy riffs you hear throughout the movie. Which by themselves aren't necessarily bad, but it's the three I list that are the cream of the soundtrack, and what most people remember from the movie. So get the soundtrack if you love Bullitt, but just cue up those three tracks, you won't be sorry.
A 1968 Version by Lalo Schifrin - BUT NOT THE ORIGINAL ONE!!.......2003-04-18
I bought this cd because I thought it was the original film version of the great soundtrack you hear in the movie. Instead of that the cd has ANOTHER version recorded in 1968 by Lalo Schifrin.
It is a great recording (and I like it very much) but it has very little to do with what you hear in the movie. The main title (for example) is very different: it is faster and it does not have the same rhythmical nuances of the film version (in the movie, sometimes the music stops and we only hear the rhythm... and the rhythm keeps changing - it is great!). On this cd, the music seems re-written in a compacted version.
If you did not see the movie or if you do not care for the original version, buy this cd - it is the best version available (since the true original film score is not available). But I loved the film version and cannot accept this one.
That's why I got disappointed.
Like "Psycho" and "Rear Window", "Bullitt" is one of those original soundtracks yet to be seen. I just hope someday someone will release it (like they did with "Blade Runner" years leter). Don't get me wrong: this cd is great but cannot match the real thing.
Buy this version - it is the original.......2001-10-02
This is the version of this soundtrack to get.
The soundtrack has been re-recorded and released in 2000 on Aleph records with Lalo Schifrin. It is good, but does not kick the way this original does. The original soundtrack score was never released, this release is the jazzier version for record release from 1968. The reason Lalo re-recorded this work in 2000 was to offer both the film version and the record vesion all on one CD. So buy the 2000 release if you are a die hard. But start with this 1968 release.
Cool enough.......2000-03-16
Triggered by the title song I ordered this CD. Most of the songs are fine, some of them are even to cool to be true (Title Tune, Ice Pick Mike). Nevertheless, i suspect that some of the songs will get slightly boring after a while. Still, the ones that stand out will do so for a very long time
If you're a Bullitt fan you'll love this CD!.......1999-11-02
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because there were a few songs I didn't really care for. I have been trying to get a copy for a long time just for the cut "Song For Cathy", and the music leading up to the car chase, you'll hear the burning of rubber when it finishes! Great CD!
