My 1-year old grandson goes to sleep listening to some of the songs on the album, unless he is bouncing up and down to the faster numbers. I have therefore listened to the songs many, many times, and enjoy them every time. They are easy to listen to, to sing along with and to rock the baby with!

MORE OF AN IMPULSE PURCHASE FOR ME.......2007-05-26

I regretted buying this after listening to it once. I haven't listened to it since and that's about three months ago. Simply put, without the movie to provide a context, the music itself doesn't sell itself. There are four cuts of 'I'm a Man of Constant Sorrow", two by the same artists which goes a long way to proving my point. I haven't seen the movie in a few years and I'm sure there's a logical reason for the song being repeated in the soundtrack that many times, but I can't remember what it is. Sometimes I like roots music with clear acoustic instrumental sounds and soulful voices. But as for an introduction to this type of music for a general listener, this is not the CD to get. It's mostly for the already converted.

Country music reclaimed its traditional soul with the chart-topping triumph of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. This concert sequel, recorded (and filmed) at Nashville's venerable Ryman Auditorium, reunites Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss and Union Station, and other O Brother standouts. With little duplication, the selection extends the movie's revival of acoustic spirituals and Appalachian balladry, though the performances and pacing of the concert aren't quite as consistently compelling as the studio soundtrack. Among the highlights are a pair of originals by Welch and David Rawlings, the bluesy "Dear Someone" and the Everlyesque "I Want to Sing That Rock and Roll." This CD was ok. I enjoyed the actual "Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack better. If you are really into these particular artists, you should enjoy this.

I'm a Dapper Dan Man! .......2006-05-01

I can't express how much I love this movie, soundtrack and documentary. It's a classic in every sense of the word. The movie is hilarious, the music superb and it makes me reminesse (pardon my spelling)about all those times my parents forced me to watch Hee Haw as a child. It's just the PERFECT movie.

This is a cool movie no doubt.
I would have rated it higher -- had I not known that some artists in the movie have never been paid for their performance in it -- hundred of thousands of copies sold -- but zilch has been paid to at least one artist that I personally know.
THey were giving this away on PBS -- to those making a donation --he (artist I know of)is ALL over this movie -- but he has yet to be compensated or recognized by the movie producers.

I never thought I was a fan of this kind of music till the "Oh Brother" movie, but this "Down from the Mountain" performance has added to my new love. The DVD or VCR of this is also a must see, where it was good to get to visit John Hartford one more time. I really enjoyed the backstage, inside glimpse at the performers on the DVD. Every single song on the CD is a good addition to the over-all pleasant experience, and I suggest you buy this CD if you are a true lover of good music, no matter what type of music you prefer.
