Who would pay $10 for this covers CD, when you can get over 50 of Garth's Brooks' own hit recordings on his 6 CD box set ($25 at walmart.com).

Some of these covers aren't bad, but some of them are are just stupid and out of tune at times. Buy the real Garth!

4 out of 5 stars In recongition of the singer..........2003-12-13

I know that as a Garth fan, I am not quite objective in my opinions, but I must tell you, I bought this record wondering what change may be made by the writers and co-writers of Garth's hits. I must tell you, I was surprised I liked the CD very much, but think about it as a moment to share with friends and maybe a small bar where you are sharing memories with close friends, ofcourse is not Garth, ofcourse is not a lot of production, but simply listening to "Wolves" worth the record. If you like Garth, it's mery possible that you're gonna like this.

This is not good. There not a lot else I can say. It not good.

1 out of 5 stars Save yourselves, run the other way!.......2001-09-13

I recieved this CD for my birthday and being a huge Garth Brooks fan, I was very excited about it. My excitement soon turned to horror as when I started listening to the songs. They were terrible! These people absolutely slaughtered these amazing songs!

I know that they were being preformed by the people that wrote/co-wrote them, and I would be the first to say that the songs themselves are amazing and the writters are great at what they do, they just can't sing.

If you like the kind of old, whinning country music (as in, nothing Garth Brooks would ever sing), then maybe you'd like the way these people preforme these songs. But there is a reason some people write the songs and get others to sing them. With the exception of the lady who sings *We Shall be Free* the CD is full of terrible music.

I suppose if you are a diehard Garth fan you will want to buy this CD, just do it knowing that after you have listend to the first 20 seconds of each song, this CD will have a permanet home on your shelf, I know mine does.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2001-04-11

I highly recommend this album to any Garth fan. The songs are sung by the original artists, or to be more specific the other half of the song writing duo as Garth co-wrote a lot of the songs. These songs are stripped to their bare bones and it's really surprising after being so used to Garth just hanging it all out there, to take a step back and remember what it was like back in the day. The only problem I have with this album is the fact this is the umpteenth time these songs have been released. Who does Garth think he is? Elvis? (Meaning that Garth, unlike Elvis, is alive, and therefore is capable of producing new material) I mean everything he does lately seems to be just putting his old stuff in a shiny new box. This album has the distinction of Garth not singing the songs, but I am sure most people are getting my drift. I am tired of shelling out my bucks for the same songs! I liked this album, I am not saying I don't, but I liked it the first time I heard them as well. And the time after that and after that and so on. :) Like I said, if you're a Garth fan, pick it up, it has a few surprises, such as a goofy Friends and Low Places and a previously unreleased song Pains that's worth the price tag alone. Also each artist talks about Garth and their song in the liner notes along with a few thoughts from the man himself.

5 out of 5 stars If tomorrow never comes........ by Garth Brooks.......2001-10-16

As if it were only yesterday... I remembered...that years ago I was listening to the radio when this song first came out and it really was an important song to me then and continues to be now ... I really love this song. If tomorrow never comes.... I listened so intently to the words... and then I wondered if we all realize how important it is to let those closest to us really know how we feel about them...everyday! I didn't know who was singing this song and I seemed to always miss hearing who the artist was, but it really impressed me so I was on a quest to know who it was, and finally, after several weeks passed, I heard that it was Garth Brooks! Impossible not to know when it's Garth now! So for the past few days I've been thinking about the words to this song and how much they mean to me and that we really should get past all the daily "stuff" that separates us from each other and let our hearts speak. Enjoy today with enthusiasm and do something to better someone's life and when that day comes we can all know ....we didn't miss the dance!

Hats Off! A Tribute To Garth Brooks is an album but it is instrumental and it must be bluegrass and there is Guitar picking, banjo picking, mandolin picking and it is like Garth Brooks who played guitar.

He is a CMT singer and one of Country Music's Hottest Pickers.

5 out of 5 stars Hats Off: A Tribute to Garth Brooks.......2000-04-19

This is 5 star music. Friends in Low Places alone is worth the whole thing. I usually review math and science books (Schaum's Outlines, Scientific American, etc.), but Garth comes close to the best ever Country Music (Willy Nelson, Tammy Wynette and a few others are at the top in my opinion). What I especially like about Garth is the humor of his songs combined with some of the painful truth underneath, and Alan Jackson has that too. This is where the conscience of America went, and I don't think it's drinking humor so much as Out of Place in Your Own Country humor and sadness. Maybe next there'll be a tribute to the American people. We sure need it.

5 out of 5 stars the dance.......2000-04-09

the song has a lot of meaning to it. not only the dance but all of his music does.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is Great!.......1998-10-13

For any body that enjoys listening to instrumental in the background while working or studyin, this album is an awesome choice. It combines a phenomenal plethora of musical blends and you'll soon find yourself singing along.

      1 out of 5 stars God awful.......2006-03-23

Normally I like tribute albums -- I've found some creative covers of good songs. But this is absolutely horrendous. Teddy Zig Zag's flat rendition of "Friends in Low Places" is worse than a late-night karaoke sing-along. "The Dance" featuring Bobby Kimball from Toto underscores why Toto has been defunct for 20 years. And 2 bars into "The Dance" by The International Country All-Stars (whose name speaks for itself) sent me running to the computer to shut off the CD!

$18 for two cd's of some cheap covers? Better off buying the Garth Brooks 6 CD Box set ($25 at www.walmart.com). These covers are pretty bad, some are ok, but why bother when you can get the real Garth Brooks? !!

This tribute album to Garth Brooks, 'A Tribute to Garth Brooks: Friends in low places' was recorded by studio musicians and appears as a low-budget release. There are no name performers on here, in fact there aren't even any credits as to who actually appeared on the recordings. The front and back of the cd is simply quoted as saying, "Performed By The Stars At Studio 99." That group of musicians has performed on various other tributes, including ones to The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and a few select albums paying tributes to 1980's pop/rock hits.

This tribute album to Garth does a pretty good job of covering his varied career, ranging from early hits to later day tunes. Some smash hits are covered and even a few you might not expect. While this isn't really worth mentioning, the songwriting credits are included on the inside cover. Brooks only had a co-write on three songs. As a casual listener of his music, I never knew he wrote so little of his own material. Aside from that, there isn't anything of note in the packaging. No liner notes, the front insert/booklet is merely a one page (double sided) sleeve.

The cover art looks like it was done with Photoshop, sporting a bland picture of a concert crowd and a cowboy hat. The back cover merely lists the song titles and has very basic label information. The year of release isn't even mentioned, it could have been recorded a year ago or ten. Likely, these recordings were done in the late 90's or beyond. Some recent Garth hits are covered, so you can go by the most recent songs used as a starting point.

The best part about 'A Tribute to Garth Brooks: Friends in low places' is actually the music. The cover versions are tastefully performed with little variance from the originals. A couple of songs are at least a little bit shorter. The singer who does the songs has some of the emotion that Garth Brooks showed on the original cuts. Granted, none of these renditions come close to the originals, but they aren't half bad, either. This guy can sing and this band can play fairly well, given this is cover band material. "The Dance", "If tomorrow never comes" and "The thunder rolls" are all above average, given these are not the originals. Those ones are the best of these covers. "Friends in low places" is charming, in that it sounds like it was recorded in a bar with a few drunken back-up singers sitting on stools next to the tape machine.

This disc really suffers from a major oversight, which obviously escaped quality control. Starting with track nine ("To make you feel my love"), the next song starts up before the appropriate track. Track nine finishes up and "Against the grain" (the tenth song) kicks in before your cd player track listing changes from nine to ten. For whatever reason, this trend occurs on every single track from here until the end of the cd. It means that if you go to the appropriate track, for example #12 for "Two Pina Coladas", then you will notice that the song starts up several seconds in. The beginnings of these later songs are cut off onto the previous tracks. If that all makes sense, it shouldn't be a problem if you are playing this straight through on a cd player. However, things will sound very sloppy if your player is only programmed to play certain tracks. I'd be more inclined to give two and a half or three stars if somebody had actually taken the time to edit this thing so the songs flow correctly.

The price on this tribute album is extremely attractive and the performances are good. However, you get what you pay for. There is a lot not to like about this release and the layout/packaging reeks of a low-budget production. If you like the songs and don't care who sings them, then you'll probably find this cd to be worth the money. It would be more at home on a stereo in a crowded bar where somebody might not be able to recognize this isn't Garth Brooks here. Maybe a younger listener might enjoy this release, too. Most others may want to pick up an actual Garth Brooks album or greatest hits collection. The best case scenario is that, listened to by a new fan, this tribute album could prompt some people to check out Brooks and his original recordings of these hits.

3 out of 5 stars The Best Garth Brooks "Tribute" Album.......2006-01-12

Back in the 70s, "Tribute" albums were everywhere, unknown singers and bands would be able to pick up a few bucks to pay their bills by recording material by famous acts. Back then these "tribute" albums were sold at a third of the price of a proper album. Nowdays, the "tribute" idea continues, but increasingly we are seeing poor cover albums for almost the same price as the proper CD. What's the point?

Ok, that aside, this album is diffrent. It's only $8 and the singer can actually sing. He's not out of tune on every track and this music is karaoke heaven. The guy singing here could probably hold some very entertaining karoke nights as well as play country clubs singing covers. No, he is not as good as the real Garth Brooks, i don't think we'd even try and compare there.

So, if you want a cheaper way of getting these songs, then you can get this CD, however, at www.walmart.com, they are selling a 6 CD box set of Garth Brooks biggest hit's for only $25, so if you want to hear this music in all it's glory, you'd be better off with that.
