Sure Feels Like Love didn't sound right.......2004-03-01

I don't know if it's just my copy, but the song "Sure Feels Like Love" sounded like the tape was slowed down or something about a minute into the song.

One listen to this collection and you will hear exactly what sent this group to the top of the counrty charts! Larry's strong lead vocals and the perfect blending of the brothers harmonies are not the only draw here though. Larry's songwrting talents not only shine in the melodies but the lyrics as well. He combines wit and poetry and delivers it up with just some plain old good singing. My favorites include "Love is just a Game" and "I don't wanna Cry" You won't be disappointed

Good CD Good Price.......2007-06-10

I have not been a long time fan of Keith Whitley but I know that he is better than any country artist that has come out in the last 5 years.

Every song on this CD is instantly recognizable for me and I enjoy his voice so much. Many of the songs will be recognizable to anyone listening to country radio in the last couple of years because they have been re-recorded by today's artists. The music is just good solid traditional (or neo traditional if you want to get technical) country.

Songs like "I'm over you" and "When you say nothing at all" almost cleanse your musical soul of all the over-produced country-pop garbage our ears are being assaulted by today. Their simplicity and heart is a breath of fresh air.

Keith Whitley's smooth voice is his main asset. Kind of a mix between Alabama's lead singer's voice and Randy Travis.

But, and I don't want to be the materialistic weasel here, the most shocking aspect of this CD is the price... eight dollars! Are you kidding me? That makes buying this CD a no-brainer.

All songs on this CD are great, but one hit is missing........2006-08-08

There is no bad song on this CD. But if I had to buy only one Keith Whitley CD, I would choose one with "Don't Close Your Eyes."

this is a must have for all you keith whitley fans out there'. its just awsome. i love all these songs keith will always be my favrotie country musician.there's not many today out there that can compare to keith whitley to me. if any- at all. i wish and i hope that someday they will release a box set of keith whitley. there's many many songs he has unreleased. and theres alot of photos and live performance's out there that needs to be released. im so lucky to have his demo sessions. there priceless.but you should buy this album its a must have and the price is perfect. i'll always be a fan of mr whitley.

Finally they included Somebody's doin me right! That great Keith Whitley song from 1991 is worth the whole $11.98 and this kind of Keith Whitley complication has not been put together like this in many years also rare tracks found on here like On The Other Hand which is from 1985 before Randy Travis cut it and Brother Jukebox and I'm gonna hurt her on the radio is on here a great collecton for Keith Whitley fans. Buy it and enjoy it is finally something different that RCA put out.

WAY BEFORE HER TIME...........2007-02-01

I can remember the first time I heard Timi sing "Hurt".
I was hypnotized by her voice. It was amazing to hear
this big voice come from this tiny girl.
If she had come on the scene today I think she would
have received the acclaim she deserves.
This talented artist was way before her time.
Unfortunately Timi also died before her time.

Another "Best Of".......2006-10-04

It seems a shame that so many of Timi's compilation albums all seem to contain many of the same tracks, with some being rerecordings. All of thse are wonderful, as this lovely little lady never made one bad record.
She really was blue eyed soul, and I don't think anyone has ever put such emotion on record. She was so underated, but why? She could sing the phone book and rip your heart out!
She cut an album called "Something bad on my mind" in London in the mid sixties, and it was one of her best, and yet it appears to be the only one never released on cd. Several tracks from it have been released on various compilations, but never the entire album. Please do all us fans a huge favour and put this album out on cd for us.
There is a company who will transfer any album to cd, but my copy of this particular album is far too valuable to risk sending it anywhere. The company in question told me it is virtually unobtainable, so, once again, please release it on cd.
We have lost Timi, but her voice will live on forever.She was unique, with perfect phrasing, and a voice that would melt the hardest of hearts. Her version of "Are you lonesome tonight" (not included here) makes Presley sound like an amateur!
I have everything Timi recorded on vinyl, but i am loathe to play them because they are far to precious, and I am scared they could be damaged as many are collectors items, but somehow cds don't have that feeling about them yet, and I don't mind how many times I play them. Those with the original albums and 45s will know what I mean.

What Is Truth?.......2007-02-16

Answer to the above question: Johnny was the truth. I have the tune on vinyl but it's not easy to find it on CD. This is missing some of what I consider to be essential Cash tunes like Get Rhythm, I Still Miss Someone, Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down and Folsum Prison Blues. But it more than makes up for those omissions by having Understand Your Man, The One on the Right, What Is Truth and I Got Stripes. It's just impossible to compile the Man onto one disc unless it's an MP3. None of the American Recordings tunes are on this either but you can find a good compilation of the Rubin era on Unearthed.

Gordon MacRae was the KING!.......2004-11-10

I was fortunate enough to be a music and drama critic for more than 20 years for a major national syndicate, and am blessed to have known all of the MacRaes for many years. For my money, Gordon MacRae was the finest pure vocalist of the 20th century. His voice, quite simply, was unmatched by any other male vocalist. Theirs was a great family, with a special mention for daughter Meredith MacRae, a darling who died much, much too young of a brain tumor. My tribute is not an important one, except to me, but I cherish all of Gordon's songs like no others I've known. Just sign me -- Ron Pataky, a grateful fan.

WORLD'S BEST SINGER IN THE 50'S.......2002-01-14

I have been a fan of Gordon MacRae ever since I saw
him in movies in the 50's. He is the most under-rated
singer and should have been awarded for his singing before
he died and even after he died. Not only for his singing
but his acting. I have most of his movies but am trying
to obtain LP's which I collect. "THREE SAILORS AND A GIRL"
is the only LP I can't get. I hope someone reading this
can help. He is by far one of the world's best singers
plus the fact that he is also handsome to go with it.

Not only does this wonderful CD give us a beautiful range of Gordon's rich, clear, velvety tenor (can you tell I like this guy?) but the songs are classics from music motion picture history. We are even privileged to hear a song from the blues. Hey, is there anything that Gordon can't sing? From the swinging 'Button up your Overcoat' to the romantic 'Goodnight Sweetheart' this CD is sure to please anyone with an appreciation for pure talent. Heck, just get it because there is nobody that can sing like Gordon MacRae- he has a voice to make your knees melt!

I love this CD and Gordon Macrae and am trying to get all of Gordon Macrae's recordings which are kind of hard to come by. I think the selections of this CD are great and most of all I love his voice which is so pure and rich and he has such range. I think he was a much under rated singer and wish more of his CD's were available. In my book he ranks up there with all the top singers of that era including Sinatra. Love the Voice !! In 1966 He was Voted Best Male Singer by the Academy of Country Music Awards. Disc One of this Set Includes 24 of his Number One's and the Songs on Disc Two were all Top Ten Hits for Haggard.

Like Marianne Faithfull and Linda Ronstadt before her, Olivia Newton John was never blessed with a great range as a singer, but she did have that instinctive feel for knowing how to use her vocal instrument in the most effective way for any given song. This album, "The Best of Olivia Newton John," is an excellent showcase of her considerable charm.

Yes, I realize it isn't cool to like Olivia. I grew up listening to her in the 70s and even back then this is what was derisively called "housewife rock," the kind of stuff you would hear at a Helen Reddy concert or a feminist rally to pass the Equal Rights Amendment. However, no matter how cynical you might be about the pop music of that era, Olivia Newton John somehow transcended the limitations of her chosen art form and remains a guilty pleasure today. I still remember going to one of her concerts circa 1975 and being absolutely amazed at her talent as a performer.

"The Best of ONJ" highlights Olivia's wonderful skill as a cover girl, doing versions of Bob Dylan's "If Not For You," George Harrison's "What Is Life?" and The Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe" that are easily as good if not better than the originals. Regrettably, her rendition of John Denver's beautiful "Follow Me" has been left out of this collection, but then you can't have everything.

Equally impressive, this record has most of her finest hits as an artist in her own right as well. There is nothing hip about tunes like "Let Me Be There," and "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)," and "Have You Ever Been Mellow?" today, but back in the day this was pure ear candy for kids growing up in an unsure world. Even now, it's incredible to hear how Olivia's voice could go from the flute-like sound of an innocent young girl one moment to the level tone of a fully formed woman the next. I don't care how corny or dumb the critics found it, that's the difference between what's real and what's fake all in one simple nutshell.

Other notable tracks on this album are additional covers of Kris Kristofferson's "Help Me Make It Through The Night," Chip Taylor's classic "Angel Of The Morning," and David Gates' "Everything I Own." What more need be said? With the able assistance of John Farrar on many (if not most) of these songs, Ms. Newton John proves that you don't have to be a doomstruck Janis Joplin to make timeless works of lasting value that speak to us all these years later.

Overall, in spite of a few lapses here and there, "The Best of ONJ" holds up remarkably well and is a very nice place to get a good start at understanding why this Australian thrush was so popular when she hit the scene in the post-Watergate/Vietnam America of 30 years ago. Other performers then were more outrageous, but Olivia has stood the test of time with a simple sense of style that was all her own. Give this CD a chance, skip over the most saccharine fluff, and you will be well rewarded with some fond memories of youth in any age of the past. Recommended.

this CD is quite a good compilation of Olivia's early work - except for "A little more love" which happens to be one of Olivia's finest songs...

Although I like this collection, I feel that this is NOT for the casual fan since they may not recognize most of the songs. I'm glad the "If Not For You" is included. I recommend "Magic: The Best Of..." to the casual fan.

Hits + cover versions = easy listening.......2001-11-13

Olivia's hits 1971-1975 (and one incongruously later hit, "A Little More Love") and a slew of non-hit covers from the same period. The hits are easy to find, but the fine if inessential performances of the other material are rarely anthologized and comprise a welcome addition to ONJ collections in the absence of most of the original albums on CD.
