5 out of 5 stars Crack the Window Baby! this album is HOT!.......1999-06-12

I had the pleasure of seeing Tony Joe White when he performed in Perth, Australia, April 1999. He just gets better and better. This album is a treat. "Crack The Window Baby" is a song anyone can identify with who lives in a hot climate or a hot bedroom. My favorite is "Cold Fingers" and the song which could become one's motto: "Don't Over Do It". Tony is a rare talent, if you can't see him live, this album is close to the truth and can really take you down rockin!

5 out of 5 stars One Hot July is One Of Tony Joe's Best.......1999-04-12

I've had this Cd for almost a month now and can't stop playing it. Gumbo John , I Want My Fleetwood Back and The Delta Singer are classic Tony Joe. If Tony Joe was anymore lay back on the title track One Hot July he would be asleep. To anyone who is a fan of Tony Joe White this is a must.

5 out of 5 stars best he's ever done! an american treasure!!.......1999-03-22

it's really sad so little is known about this unique, one of a kind, truly natural talent. bring him back!

The 58 year old comback kid Tony Joe White has done it again. The Louisiana swamps ooze out of every note. Recorded last year in Louisiana TJW has assembled a great back up group with help from daughter Michelle on Old Black Crow real southern funk. Great keyboards throughout adds to the atmosphere. Across from Midnight is quite different to the Cocker version. Also worth a mention is I want my fleetwood back, Gumbo John with his pet alligator Clyde. We all look forward to see him tour Australia again next month it is a special experience. There is a song The Delta Singer with lyrics about blues notes on the Australian wind. great stuff! buy it!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars GREAT TONY JOE WHITE ALBUM.......2006-01-18

Tony Joe White has been making great music for over 3 decades. Plenty of good stuff here and there yet not one of his albums is consistent enough. If you are a new comer to TJW's music you may want to know that "Rainy night in Georgia" as well as "Polk Salad Annie" are some of his good music.
"One hot July" is all different from his previous work. Different; not is style but in consistency.
This album is excellent from start to finish; Great pure guitar sound with a blend of blues and classic rock. "Crack the window baby", "Across from Midnight", "Goin' Down Rockin'", "Gold Fingers" and "I want my Fleetwood Back" are great tracks. If you liked Chris Rea's CD. "Road to Hell" and some of JJ Cale's best songs you will fall in love with This CD.
Again, this is the most artistic and solid album TJW came up with so far; A great pleasure for the ears and soul

5 out of 5 stars Jesse in CA.......2005-10-12

Unbelievable songwriting! How could TJW go relatively unnoticed as he has been in the music industry? I just saw him in Los Angeles last week in a smaller venue and he tore the roof off the place!!! Just him, his Stratocaster & harmonica and a drummer. With the PA system set up right he sounded like a 5-piece band with just the 2 of them! One Hot July is probably his best effort to date in my opinion and now I'm currently in the process of purchasing everything he's ever put out!!! Buy this album and experience some of the best music ever produced!

5 out of 5 stars Best in 2004.......2005-07-19

THis CD was in my Top 5 for 2004. Everyone I played it for went crazy over it. One of the best Blues Cds ever!

4 out of 5 stars dark swamp blues.......2004-12-29

This is the album the late John Lee Hooker could have made with Mark Knopfler. If you like Hooker's deep spooky vocals and tasteful, soulful guitar in the Knopfler/JJ Cale tradition, you'll love this. (White has been recording much longer than Knopfler, maybe even longer than Cale). Most of the songs are swampy, brooding, predominatnly minor-key, blues-oriented but not simple I-IV-V progressions. A few funk it up a bit. As a fan of nearly all music rooted in Louisiana, I need to get more of his CDs.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent guitarist in the vein of Clapton/Knopfler..........2004-10-31

This is the guy of Polk Salad Annie fame. He is an excellent guitarist in the vein of Eric Clapton/Mark Knopfler. All original songs, my only problem is it is a tad mellow for my taste.
