This is a great C.D. with many of our favorites. Katrina took all of my old 33 1/3 albumns so we're slowly replacing with the C.D. as we can find them. As usual, Amazon is the place for most everything one could want or need. The price is, of course, very reasonable also. If you love those old time Gospel greats, you will, for sure, love these.

I must say, first and foremost, Judy Jacobs is an excellent singer. If you haven't heard her sing, please do. Here voice is amazing.The Lord has truly blessed her with a magnificent voice and she is using it to glorify him. Amen. Now about the cd, its format is excellent. Most of the songs were recorded live, so as you listen to it, you feel as if you're right there. Hearing the crowd worshipping and clapping in the background is awesome. This CD will truly lead you into the presence of God. Ever since the day I bought it, I listen to it every single day. It's truly amazing. I highly recommend Above and Beyond

I watch T B N every night,some times all night. I enjoy praising the LORD with every one. I get touched by Karen Wheaton and Judy jackobs also many of the ministers such as Benny Hinn, Mark Chorona, T D jakes , paula white , Juanita Bynum, Kandy Station.
Jessie Duplantis, Joel Osten.and many more. I learn from all of them and love to praise with them. i would love to visit some of you some day,but I don't get much money and I caint work because of me physical problems. Excellent CD From "God's Property" Alumni.......2006-07-30

When I heard "Set Me Free" on the radio here in Chicago, I knew those voices and production style sounded familiar. I loved the song, then I bought the full CD- and loved all of it! Then when I heard Myron Butler did some things with Kirk Franklin, I went to my "God's Property From Kirk Franklin's Nu Nation" CD, looked through the credits, and noticed that basically all the singers, musicians, and song writers, from the Myron Butler & Levi project played major roles on the God's Property CD. You may remember Myron Butler singing the lead on "Faith" (the song where he said he had "mustard seed" faith). The only thing that surprised me about all this was that MB and the the rest of the talented crew didn't come out with anything as a unit before this (at least as far as I know).

Everything about the two projects is so similar- although they are definitely two distinct projects- and that is an excellent thing! Upbeat songs to go along with the more mellow songs, excellent musicianship by the band, and most importantly, the lyrics of all the songs emphasize a focus on God and our need to uplift Him, and stay true to the course He has laid for us. My personal favorites are "Set Me Free", "I Can", "That's Who You Are", and "Latter Rain", but I can easily listen to the entire CD without skipping a track.

If you liked the "God's Property" sound, you will definitely enjoy this CD. Get it and receive your blessing!

I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS CD AND I CANT STOP LISTING TO IT. I LOVE EVERY SONG EXPECT "ALRIGHT" THAT IS THE ONLY SONG THAT I DONT LIKE BUT THE REST IS AWESOME. I LOVE IT. I KNEW MYRON BUTLER AS A PRODUCER BUT NEVER AS A SINGER. HE NEEDS TO KEEP ON SINGING AND PUT OUT GREAT PROJECT. THIS PROJECT IS AWESOME. I LOVE IT. "EVERYTHING" AND "LATTER RANI" IS THE BEST. Myron Has Now Become One Of My Faves..And That's Hard To Do With Me..........2006-01-09

Man, where has this guy been. I hadn't heard about him until recently when his CD was being reviewed on gospelflava.com. They said he did some work with Kirk Franklin back in the day, so I made it my mandate to check him out. About 2 weeks later, I got his CD as a Christmas gift! And I haven't been able to put this CD down since!!

From the start this CD is a smash. The first 3 songs, "That Place", "I Can", and "Set Me Free", instantly became my favourite songs on the CD. After those songs, the songs are great but not like those 1st three. The beginning of "Set Me Free" also had a kind of Tye Tribbett feel to it, so I really liked that one.

There are so many leaders with chorales/choirs coming out these days it's so hard to keep up: Brent Jones & TP Mobb, Natalie Wilson & SOP, Israel & New Breed, Tye Tribbett & GA are pretty much the best of the bunch. But now you can add a new addition to that group. Myron Butler & Levi are definitely gospel excellence and don't disappoint with this CD. It was well worth the wait.

Acappella is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to explore contemporary Christian vocal groups. Less jazzy than Take 6 and more lean and clean than the heavily multitracked Glad, Acappella provides a solid groove and tight harmonies that are fresh and exciting yet not overtly aimed at Top 40 radio. One of the tracks on Set Me Free, "More Precious Than Gold," was even used in a national television commercial for Kodak. That track, based on Psalm 19, was written by Keith Lancaster, as was the bulk of the album. The four singers on this 1993 album, Duane Adams, Wayburn Dean, Gary Moyers, and George Pendergrass, are supplemented by a gospel choir on the title track. "Stand on the Rock" will get your fingers snapping and "Lead Me to Rest" will transport you straight to heaven. --David Horiuchi

My husband I listen to this album all the time. It always lift us up everytime. My husband can listen to this album for hours, playing it over and over again. I really enjoyed this CD. It always seems to lift my spirits whenever I'm feeling down, and it keeps me happy, mainly because of its mix of mellow and "happy" songs. I highly recommend this CD and all others by Acappella to those who appreciate and love acappella music!

This four-CD set of 19th- and 20th-century African American sacred music was initially released as a compnaion to the 1995 Peabody Award-winning radio series of the same name produced by National Public Radio and the Smithsonian Institution. With extensive notes by Bernice Johnson Reason, who conceived and compiled the series, these recordings honor the rich sacred music tradition created and sustained within the African American community, from which so much contemporary American music draws its inspiration.

Breathtaking Vocals.......2003-01-30

I have never heard such pure perfection in vocals. Rich, outstanding recording quality (surpassing Smithsonian norm). Not necessarily for the taste of "contemporary" gospel fans, this set is for people who love old gospel music, acapella perfect, that sends chills down your neck and warms your heart.

Elvis Fans Must Own.......2003-10-29

I have almost every compilation of Elvis music and this one tops them all. I've owned this box set for several years and it continues to get spun regularly. The interview before Elvis was shipped to Germany is a classic and gives you a small glimpse at the quality person he was.

Fabulous collection!.......2003-07-13

These discs explain why Elvis became such an influential and towering rock 'n roll artist. His talent shows through on all of these songs and it's simply a great introduction for fans who are only familiar with the King's later work. I prefer the early Presley, and all the hits are here, but more importantly, his other, lesser known songs, are here as well. How about "Baby You're So Square," one of his most charming and fun recordings? Another gem is "Don't You Think it's Time." Even "Here Comes Santa Claus" is a stellar performance!

Another great feature is that you can hear Elvis develop his vocal style. There are three different versions of the fabulous "Shake, Rattle and Roll," and on each successive version, you can hear the improvements, both vocally and instrumentally. This is a piece of music history and will show even a casual listener that Elvis was amazingly gifted as a vocal innovator and rock stylist. Highly recommended!

I'll let the song titles alone justify the purchase:1954 saw Elvis cut That's All Right, Blue Moon, Just Because & Good Rockin' Tonight; in 1955, Elvis dropped the following tunes on the world:You're Right, I'm Left, She's Gone/Mystery Train/I Forgot to Remember to Forget; Elvis 1956: Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes, Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel,Love Me Tender, My Baby Left Me,Love Me, When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again; The King in 1957 recorded Jailhouse Rock,Teddy Bear,I Beg of You, One Night, You're So Square, Blue Christmas,Treat Me Nice,Loving You & Got Alot of Livin' to Do. Before entering the Army, Elvis was able to record A Big Hunk O'Love in 1958. Now I am just listing some of my picks from a great collection of tunes that no record collector should be without. Do the right thing and pick this up. Thank you very much.

The perfect beginning............2002-03-23

This is the best place to start your Elvis Presley collection. Every single song he recorded and released during the 1950s plus a fifth disc full of alternate takes and rarities. You'll see why his talent dwarfed all the other great 50s artists. As good as they were, none could hold a candle to Elvis. A warning though to any potential buyer, once you get this set...you'll be on the road to buying lots more Elvis!!

The King of the 50's.......2002-03-12

This box set proves that Elvis did not steal one thing during his rise to the top. He earned respect every inch of the way. Disc 2 is probably the greatest all around early rock and roll I've ever heard. His comfort level was growing and he was getting some really great songs.

The real treat for the collector is on disc 1. You get some of the earliest of the Elvis Sun studio recording. His performance of 'Blue Moon' is simple but effective in conveying a sense of loneliness.

Disc 5 ends with a long press conference conducted by Presley right after completing boot camp. It's interesting to hear how he interacts with the press and how he was trying to set himself up as just another private headed to duty.

These discs represent a piece of history the true collector must own.

For a few years during the early 1960s, Sam Cooke, the man with the golden croon, ran his own small record label, SAR Records. In addition to aiding the career of the post-Cooke Soul Stirrers, SAR unleashed an impressive array of talent--Bobby Womack and the Valentinos, Lou Rawls and the Pilgrim Travelers, and a young organist named Billy Preston. The singles they cut for his label are here, alongside unreleased demos from Cooke such as a spare, transporting take of "That's Heaven to Me." Story presents much evidence of the Soul Stirrers' continued greatness with Jimmie Outler as lead singer. And the tracks by R.H. Harris & His Gospel Paraders are stone groove gospel-soul cuts. Disc 2 presents the secular material, with solid jazz-funk cuts alongside swell pop-soul numbers. Sam Cooke was a genius. As brilliant and beautiful as his unparalled voice was, he still was able to write and produce some of the most remarkable music(particularly the gospel cd)in black history for other artists. Sam wanted to write, produce, and record other artists. He wanted to take gospel and the gospel sound mainstream. This is a wonderful body of work by an artist who is so sorely underrated and unknown, especially this side of his career. This set features some extremely powerful singing and gorgeous production. A particular artist who stands out here is Jimmie Outler. He became lead singer of The Soul Stirrers after Johnnie Taylor left, who replaced Sam. Jimmie's voice is so powerful and dynamic. He truly defines 'Soul Stirring.'His ability to interpret a lyric while keeping his intense gospel fervor is stunning. R.H. Harris, an inspiration to a young Sam Cooke, is here with a handful of tracks with his new backing team "The Gospel Paraders." I believe R.H. was in his forty's during this period and his falsetto is still earthshattering.(particularly on "Pass Me Not" with its beautiful and carefully arranged guitar intro)........

This album is incredible. Even though i'm not particularly religious, but this Gospel is amazing. The first disc, to me, is alot better, just because it is the gospel, and there are no duds. The "chatter" before the songs really add alot to the whole experience, and give you a deeper look into Sam Cookes producing style. My favorite soul album, and completely flawless.

Yet Another Side of the Man who invented Soul.......2005-11-30

Sam Cooke once said that one of the things he wanted to accomplish was that all the singers he recorded had hits. For that reason he started his own recordlabel called SAR. The S for Sam. The A jwAlexander and the r for sR crain.

He produced most of the sessions himself and they have added some fun bits on the CD where Sam is talking to the artists and telling them how to sing and what to do.

CD1 is the gospel part and features himself but also the Soul Stirrers and the Womack Brothers. On CD2 we find them again but this time as The Valentinos. The song everyone will know if "It's all over now" that the Rolling Stones heard and then recorded.

It also features songs he wrote for others and then recorded himself a little later like "That's Where It's At", "Soothe Me", "When A Boy Falls In Love" and "Rome Wasn't Build In A Day".

The production was great because the songs all sound awesome. It really shows yet another side of the man who invented soul. This time the producer and label owner.

Sam Cooke was an amazing talent in so many ways, and this collection of the music his record company produced during its short five-year existence is further evidence (if more were needed) that his early death was a profound loss. Aside from his extraordinary talents as a singer and a songwriter, Cooke proved himself with SAR records to be a canny businessman and producer. In this regard, he was a pioneer. As Peter Guralnick points out in the introductory remarks in the excellent and thorough booklet that accompanies the set, Cooke's entrepreneurial effort marked one of the earliest occasions when "a prominent black artist was in a position to actually control the means of production."

And control them he did. One of the many pleasures of this collection is that you get to hear some of Cooke's direction to the groups on his label, and he can be both humorous and fierce. "Paul, you weren't watching me, no way," he says to Paul Foster of the Soul Stirrers at one point; but at another he patiently explains to a clearly frustrated Foster what the words of a particular song mean so that, as Foster says, "I can get the sense of it."

Cooke himself made history and has been called "the man who invented soul" (although that title should technically go to Ray Charles) by "crossing over" from the world of gospel, where he was lead singer of the Soul Stirrers, to the world of popular music--a move thought by many in the gospel community to be literally sinful. The set reflects that division, with the first CD devoted to gospel music--including that of the Soul Stirrers, reconstituted with Johnnie Taylor singing Sam's former part--and the second compiled mostly of popular love songs. To my mind, the first disc is far and away the better of the two. I find most of the songs on the second disc fairly forgettable, except the Sam Cooke songs that Sam sang better himself on other occasions. But the first disc is another matter. In fact, aside from the Soul Stirrers albums themselves, and of course Mahalia Jackson, I don't think there's any gospel music I enjoy more. The songs here are varied, moving, lovely. Many of them are powerful enough to bring me to tears. If the first CD alone were the price of the whole set, I'd happily pay it--and then some.
