A hidden and forgotton surprise in Rock 'n' Roll history.......2006-04-01

Thanks to Bear Family the younger generation (who wasn't there when it all happened) can enjoy this fantastic music. Since it was recorded a little later than Elvis and Jerry Lee, most tracks are in stereo and don't have the (distinctive) SUN sound. However, I guess that's a blessing. This music is pure rockabilly, blues and jazz and is (imo) much better than Jerry Lee's early SUN stuff, especially the voice and piano style of Rich are very RICH. Also, Rich wrote most of the songs himself (as well as some hits for Jerry Lee, like Break Up) and even plays piano on some of Jerry Lee's recordings!

This box set gives the public and avid CR,SR fans a great glimpse in the creative process in CR, SR'S early stage of his career. Couldn't wait to put the discs on my CD carosel and become drench in the creativity of this music and was pleasantly and RICHLY rewarded for my purchase. Lots of demos and unreleased material in 3 CDS that makes you wonder what could of happen if things had been different in the 1950's-early 1960's. Sam Phillips said that CR,SR could have rivaled Elvis and better than Jerry Lee in creativity---you be the judge. Well worth your money for an avid fan.

a three cd, 93 track set of many, many unissued demos from charlie rich's years at "sun records." also a 44 page, 12'x12' book by charlie rich expert, hank davis. this is a "bear family" records release and is excellently done. many tracks have been remastered for stereo and have had strings and voices deleted to show the raw power charlie rich - one of america's truly great musical performers - a songwriter, singer and pianist not many other artists can equal.
