Long Haul Laffs Volume 1

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Shel Silverstein left an indelible mark on popular culture. He has gone from cartoonist for Playboy, Time and Stars & Stripes to children’s book author to songwriter. Silverstein wrote songs for Johnny Cash (“A Boy Named Sue”), Dr. Hook (“Cover of the Rolling Stone”), Waylon (“The Taker”), Bobby Bare (“Daddy What If”) and several others.

Before Shel Silverstein died in 1999, he was writing songs for these two Long-Haul Laffs projects, a comedic look at long-haul truck drivers and the trucking industry. In all, 6 songs on these two 10-song collections were written by Silverstein.

To add to the allure of these off-center pieces, several artists with, let’s say, a specific appeal were enlisted to interpret the songs of Silverstein and others. The list of artists includes Joe Sun, Bobby Bare, Moe Bandy & Joe Stampley, Sheb Wooley, Del Reeves and newcomer Wacky Will Jones.

Of particular interest may be Sheb’s lament “I Just Don’t Look Good Naked Anymore” or perhaps his brilliant play on words “Truckin' Sons of Mitch’s.” There’s also a Silverstein-parody of “Six Days on the Road” sung by Bobby Bare as “Six Days Back at Home.” Other notable tracks are Joe Sun’s “13 Tons of Ice Cream Bars” and Will Jones’ “Airbag” which boasts the lyric “I already got an airbag and it happens to be my wife.”

Some would call Long-Haul Laffs Volumes 1 & 2 low-brow humor. Others might call it good clean fun. We at Music Mill Entertainment don’t care what you call it as long as you buy it!
