You hear lots about musicians who style themselves as outlaws, that is just posing. You won't find that here.

Product Description
The Lawless is another equisitely crafted Cd by Kevin Deal. The songs have that familiar, but on edge Lone Star feel, like the smell of heat baked Texas dirt, and these songs are packed just as tight and solid as that earth. from the first cut to the last Deal sends you on sun-kissed, sage-scented, dusty trail journey of the state that Texans love to call home. Lloyd Maines placed his immeccable production touch upon this effort. Deal's music is intricately woven through the stories he tells. It draws you in and won't let you go. ---Cheryl Arthur

5 out of 5 stars "Old Timey" blues.......2007-05-17

I first heard Gil Landry playing with the rest of the Kitchen Syncopators at a street fair in Seattle. I was hooked immediately.

Gil deserves all the accolades he can muster. The man knows the blues and can break your heart with a guitar or ukulele with equal ease.

If you're a fan of the blues, give Gil a shot. You won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Maybe the world will discover this guy now..........2007-01-31

For many a year, Gill Landry has fronted a delightful jug band called the Kitchen Syncopators. Six albums of sheer genius that the band produced, released and distributed privately, and countless nights in clubs and days at festivals could not bring this band the fame or fortune they deserve...(but you can buy the records through the band's web site, kitchensyncopators.com, and you should buy them all, and buy the early Gill Landry solo album for sale there while you are at it).

So, now comes a (relatively) major release for the front man, Gill Landry, who has a rich, expressive voice that deserves the beautiful production on this record. The songs are great - even the ones that are retreads from his earlier eponymous independent release deserve a listen here, because the earlier Syncopators and Landry solo records were not so nicely recorded as this one.

Sure, I miss the covers of old Mississipi John Hurt Songs, and I miss Slim's harmonica playing and Bob's washboard playing and Huck on the kazoo and piano - all staples of the Syncopators repertoire - but this album, taken on its own terms, is brilliant and I love it. I'll see Mr Landry perform in Seattle tomorrow night and I'm sure that it will be a fabulous show, as has been every Syncopators gig I've seen.

But if I have one hope, it's that this record will inspire people to check out the Kitchen Syncopators, a band for the ages, perhaps the greatest band of all time.

4 out of 5 stars L .E. Debut Exceptional Production & With 90's Style Lyrical Flow.......2006-03-10

Well first of all the influence of Magnif, J. Dilla and the Detroit are definately obvious and I think this project primarily is attempting to establish their presense, through name recognition, which in this era of the rap game is kinda played. I agree with some of the reviewers in reference to the production which is impressive and a 90's style formula; however, the lyrical content could use more substance and introspect. Maybe the next installment will be more informative, educational.

5 out of 5 stars Soundvision: In Stereo.......2006-01-16

Michigan's Motor City has no shortage of rap talent and on their debut album producer/MC Magnif and MC Griot contribute 12 songs in the key of that stereotype. Their aesthetic is pure '90s throwback to the boom-bap, delivering an airy sound bursting with the sound of soul. Beats are this disc's strong point; Magnif hugs the curves of golden era hip-hop, simultaneously flirting with De La Soul, early Slum Village and Pete Rock (minus the horns). The lyrics hold their own, They're about riding the laidback rhythms on cruise control, representing Detroit with a tasty collection of tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Flow This Raw.......2006-01-16

This hip hop duo is doing their own thing and that so happens to be producing some high quality tracks. Lyrical depth and fresh beats fill this twelve track album. "Crew" is a prime example of their story telling abilities, funky beats and reiterates the significance of having your entourage. The introduction of a heavenly voice from Melanie Rutherford on top of blissful rolling keyboarding tactic makes "One Night" stand out in a major way. Furious rhyming skills and a hypnotic beat with some wild electronic sounds are presented on "...Something (remix)" making it a scorcher. They take underground hip hop to the next level on this joint. Definitely not an album for those of you seeking a top 40 hip hop sound.

5 out of 5 stars Lawless.......2006-01-15

Im completely addicted to this album , its easily one of the best releases of a great year in 2005 . The production flows very beautifly and is mostly done by Magnif of Lawless Element , the lyrics are also dope but not as good as the beats , but the delivery and cadence of the rhymes are remarkable. It has some of undergrounds finest featured on this album , but its quite clear this is not a release for the average narrow minded underground fan , it has variety and enough skill to crossover to mainstream without even trying . I would say to any fan of good music pick this up.

3 out of 5 stars decent, but nothing new..........2006-01-15

lawless element...I must say that babygrande has fallen off in the last couple years...in an attempt to get some jazzy stuff on the label as opposed to the homo-bashing done on jmt and outerspace releases, the lawless kids do come correct on the production end...lyrics are nothing short of standard hood rap which can be found on any mainstream release these days...honestly, the production at times can outweigh the pointless flows...dilla does one beat and madlib contributes a couple beats to clean out his hard drive...this cd is something you would have as background music, not as something you would have all ears on...all in all, the cd is a decent release...I payed 4 bucks for it used...if you find it for a reasonable price, grab it, because it isnt horrible, but it isnt going to be in heavy rotation either.

5 out of 5 stars All I can Say is WOW.......2004-08-29

This is possibly the best Rockabilly band in years and years. The two albums they have are my two greatest buys. I know rockabilly, neo, traditional whatever, Ive listened for years..this is the real deal. If you are like me, enjoying a wide variety of rockabilly, this is the band you have been hoping to find, from high energy guitar riffs, growling vocals, this is the band. I guarentee this will be in your cd tray for weeks at a time. I cant say enough about Rockin Ryan and the Realgoners, except thank you! Keep rocking!

5 out of 5 stars great late 50's style rock'n'roll and some rockabilly.......2004-08-25

This cd captures Rockin' Ryan's wild and energetic stage presence, even though these are studio recordings. Ryan sings like a rockabilly star from around 1957, but without copying any particular 50's rockabilly icon, and therefore sounding original. This cd is different from his 1st lp, which sounded like mid 50's rockabilly, this cd is late 50's and even early 60's rock'n'roll ,with a few rockabilly and western swingy sounding tracks thrown in for good measure. The highlight of this cd is without a doubt his original "Spiderlegged Baby", where the witty lryics state "I was trying to kiss her lips, I was inbetween her hips... I was trying to kiss her face, I was inbetween her waste." A great cd, and it shows that Ryan is maturing wit hwach new release, here's looking forward to his next cd.

      Album Description

This is the debut solo project from John Lawless of AcuTab Publications - a business dedicated to producing high quality instructional materials for bluegrass instruments - and Huber Banjos. Through his association with AcuTab and the related promotion of the firm, John has established a recognizable name for himself in the bluegrass community. The CD features 10 original banjo instrumentals of John's, plus three vocal pieces featuring singers with whom John has worked over the years. Stylistically, the CD covers a wide range including John's take on bluegrass, old-time, and modern acoustic music. Guest artists include many of the high profile pickers whose music has been profiled in the various AcuTab books and DVDs over the years. With the release of Five & Dime, John eagerly shares his own banjo compositions with the rest of the bluegrass world. Produced by IBMA award-winning instrumentalist Ron Stewart, the disc has an all-star lineup including: Herschel Sizemore, Alan Bibey, and Warren Amberson (all on mandolin), Tim Stafford (of Blue Highway), Kenny Smith (Kenny & Amanda Smith), Dewey Peters, Tony Collins, and Kelly Green (all on guitar), Ron Stewart (fiddle), Rob Ickes (of Blue Highway) (dobro), Greg Honeycutt (bass), and Bill Smith, Warren Amberson, and Kelly Green (all on vocals). Special bonus: the CD contains CD-Rom info with musical tablature on all 13 tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Jampacked with solid, adroit, inspired playing .......2004-10-12

"Five & Dime," the debut solo album from AcuTab founder John Lawless features ten original banjo tunes, and three vocal numbers (Twilight, Listen to the Music, Baby Girl) sung by Bill Smith, Warren Amberson, and Kelly Green, respectively. And yes, "Listen to the Music" is a cover of the famous Doobie Brothers song. Other guest musicians include Dewey Peters, Alan Bibey, Herschel Sizemore, Tony Collins, Kenny Smith, Greg Honeycutt, Tim Stafford, Rob Ickes, and Ron Stewart.

Warren Amberson, Kelly Green, Greg Honeycutt, Dewey Peters and John Lawless are members of the band, Acoustic Endeavors. Amberson and Green are both graduates of the bluegrass music program at East Tennessee State University. Acoustic Endeavors' two highly-acclaimed CDs include "Coming Of Age... again" and "Sneak Preview." John Lawless lives in Roanoke where he manages AcuTab Publications, a small business dedicated to producing high quality instructional materials for bluegrass instruments. He started playing and studying the banjo in the 70s.

Lawless picks his crisp Huber banjo with a whole lotta gumption, and his friends provide plenty of flash. The result is an album that gets up and goes at a right pert and snappy pace. Each piece is memorable, whether it be "Guilty Pig" (a banjo/fiddle duet), "None Finer" (a banjo/dobro duet for his fiance), "How R Ya Waltz" (a waltz for banjo) or "Up All Night" (a fiery closing breakdown). It's also enlightening to compare the contrasting mandolin styles of Alan Bibey and Herschel Sizemore.

John Lawless covers a lot of ground on this project, and his skillful banjo-picking is always kept in the forefront. With nimble firework fingers, John demonstrates a cleverness that is innovative and takes risks in his contemporary music without any of the usual antics or stereotypes that some 5-string players are tempted to employ. "Five & Dime" is jampacked with solid, adroit, inspired playing without any grandstanding, despite the all-star guest list. The CD includes banjo tabs for all the tunes, as well as an interactive Copper Creek Record catalog. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

Lawless is a dope Chicano rap group based in the City Of Angels, listen to them on Latin Heat featuring Mr. Gee which is a loco joint about latin life, Hoody Rat featuring ALT & Mr. Gee is a tight joint with a latin flavored G-funk, Mr. Gee's verse is off the hook, Danger Zone featuring ALT & Nino B is a hard & evil joint about life in the streets of the City Of Angels, ALT goes hardcore to, its like Lawless are a Chicano version of Above The Law, and Love vs. Hate featuring ALT is another tight joint with a sweat G-funk beat, handled by ALT and is about love or hate (chosen).
