About the Artist
Since beginning his Bay Area singing career in the early 90s, Bob Dalpe has gained popularity and rave reviews for his outstanding interpretations of classic jazz standards. Bob's repertoire consists of the classic songs written by songwriting giants including Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, and Lerner and Loewe, as well as Bob's own original tunes. And if you're a Sinatra fan, you'll see why much of Bob's claim to fame is from the incredible likeness of his voice to that of the great Sinatra.

5 out of 5 stars The best of the best!.......2002-08-16

This cd is unbelievable. I reviewed this a year ago and it's even better today. I've listened to tons of music in my life and if you ask me my favourite all-time album, this is it!, hands down. Pure country rock, raw as hell, awesome guitar work(Tim Carroll), and even better lyrics,(downwright vicious lyrics.) Not too many musicians can do to me what this guy does. It's criminal that Bob's not better known, but that might also be a good thing.

5 out of 5 stars One of My Favorites.......2001-09-20

I love this Cd from Bob's lonesome twang to his caustic, cynical lyrics. I listen to a lot of country and alt. country and this is one of the best. Someone done you wrong? Done someone wrong? Crying in your beer? This is a CD guaranteed to make you feel better. Lyrics that hit you where you live coupled with a driving country-rock beat.

5 out of 5 stars A Blazer Of A Disc.......2001-07-16

Exellent. This Is Rowdy Country Rock At It's Best,Nothin Fancy,Just Great Music. The Lyrics Are Good,Surprisingly Good. The Guitarist On This Disc Is TIM CARROLL,And If You Can Pick Up His Cd's,Do It Cause This Guy Is By Far The Best Roots Rocker Out There. If You Want To Know To Find His Stuff,Drop Me A Line,You Wont Be Sorry.Anyway,Lonesome Bob's Only Problem Is He Doesn't Have Enough Music Out There.

5 out of 5 stars A darkly moving effort.......1999-11-29

I was very impressed by this first effort from Lonesome Bob. Unlike much of the popular country music, Lonesome Bob's songs are well-crafted, thought provoking and darkly comic. I especially enjoyed the harmonies provided by Bob's back up singer. I look forward to more music from Lonesome Bob in the future. Thanks for offering this CD on amazon!

Lonesome Bob's sophomore disc spites its own title: some things may change, but Bob's considerable gifts as a country singer and songwriter aren't among them. His baritone will still shake any room to its rafters, his songwriting skills remain so sharp that even songs that might sound like novelty numbers ("Heather's All Bummed Out," "It'd Be Sad If It Weren't So Funny") can cut to the bone, and as on his 1997 debut, Things Fall Apart, he's accompanied by a talented posse of fellow Nashville rebels that includes angelic vocal foil Allison Moorer and fiery lead guitarist Tim Carroll. But where the earlier effort was just a collection of killer country songs, this disc is a more coherent album. Dedicated to Lonesome Bob's son Zachary, who died unexpectedly in 1998, Things Change moves through the anger and pain of the harrowing rock numbers "Where Are You Tonight?" and "Weight of the World" to the sorrow, acceptance, and hope of the ballads "In the Time I Have Left" and the title track. --Anders Smith Lindall

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Wonderful voice, interesting lyrics, but..........2003-04-08

... but I was expecting a bit more musically. Nothing really wrong with these songs, mind you, but they come off sounding like rough demos that haven't had the chance to be worked on yet to flesh out the potential for musical richness and depth.

And on the track "In The Time I Have Left", the last word of the chorus is repeated OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again for what seems like 15 minutes (more like 1 minute, really, but it DRAGS). It just seems like poor song structuring to have it run on and on like that.

I really like his voice, though, and he recruited Allison Moorer, possibly THE most under-appreciated singer of modern times, to contribute backing and harmony vocals on most of the tracks. So Bob definitely gets high marks for that.

5 out of 5 stars Listen to every word and every note.......2002-12-10

Bob gets even closer to what makes us tick and what often knocks us down a peg or two, sometime further. This is a sparse CD that's full of penetrating energy and depth. Allison Moorer is all over Bob's CD (again), and to these ears, she sounds better in this context than on her solo CDs (and I love those solo CDs!) Amy Rigby joins the cast on the title track. Tim Carroll is here, too, ripping it up, electrically, moving the beat along. Mastered by Buddy Miller. Lots more to hear, here.

4 out of 5 stars probably 5 stars.......2002-07-29

outstanding cd!!a cross between cornell hurd and webb wilder but leaving both in the dust on this one.the kind of music you wished you'd hear on radio, but probably never will.{i'm lucky, living in austin i heard it on our public radio station}.the title track alone is worth the price of the cd,but don't let that detract from the rest of the cd.it's one keeper after another.my only quibble is the bonus track "PATCHES" detracts from the haunting ending.BUY THIS CD!

5 out of 5 stars Honest as they come........2002-07-22

A beauty. This guy's the real deal, and he's better than 99.9% of the music that's out there. Country rock in every sense of the word. The lyrics are awesome and the music is blazing. Also, anyone who hangs out with Allison Moorer's alright in my books. Grab this before it goes out of print;you know how these small labels can be.

5 out of 5 stars play it "every day".......2002-03-13

Bob Chaney deserves a lot more exposure than he gets. This music isn't for everyone, I use a lot of discretion in what I let my 9 year old son hear, but Bob is a rare talent and is the kind of artist that Nashville desparately needs to salvage the sinking ship that is today's contemporary country music. Bob's music is quite mature, themes range from successful thievery ("Got Away With It") to a woman's early-mid-life crisis ("Heather All Bummed Out") to substance abuse ("Dying Breed") to suicide ("Weight of the World"). "Where Are You Tonight" is about Bob's loss of his teenage son Zachary; this may not be the best song Bob's ever sung (that is debatable) but it certainly is the best Bob's ever sung a song (and that's saying a lot!). From start to finish, perhaps excluding the uncredited cover of Clarence Carters' "Patches" (where'd Bob come up with this one?!), these are well crafted songs sung by a voice that cannot be easily ignored. And Bob's secret weapon, harmony vocals by Allison Moorer, only makes it more difficult to take the CD out of my player. Buy this CD, in the time you have left play it "every day", "every day", "every day", "every day", ...................... "every day"!

5 out of 5 stars Uncle Dave searches for the perfect woman.......2004-05-04

I heard the Waco Brothers a few years ago on college radio in RI and got some of their CDs from the Bloodshot site and really liked them BUT this record blows my freakin' lid off. They've teamed up with Uncle Dave, some dude they used to hang out with in DC back in the day and he's come up with all these sensitive wordy country ballads and neanderthal rock anthems about his mid-life crisis. Hilarious stuff. He dreams up a fantasy woman for his future Uncle Dave wife and by the end of the album realizes she has to be killed before he can be free or happy or both. But it's OK 'cos she's not real, I geuss. The Wacos never sounded better and the rocking never stops. Uncle Dave has one of those weird non-singer story-teller voices that creeps up on you and gets in your skull! Perfect listening for unemployable single drunks staring down the barrel at 50... Where Does Love Go When It's Gone could be a hit for the Mavericks or Dwight.

    Album Description

Sibling duo Brennen Leigh and Seth Hulbert are bringing their eclectic mix of americana roots music to enthusiastic audiences from Minnesota to Florida. Armed with a mandolin and a voice as strong as railroad tracks and as smooth as a mint julep, Brennen Leigh breathes fresh life into bluegrass, country western, Texas swing, Irish folk and Mississippi Delta blues standards, as well as adding distinctively north woods images to her well-crafted original songs.

Brennen Leigh's eagerly awaited debut album includes seven original songs and nine covers of such americana classics as Hank Williams' "Moanin' the Blues" and Bob Wills' "San Antonio Rose" to contemporary gems like Greg Brown's "The Train Carrying Jimmie Rodgers Home" and Steve Earle's "I'm Still In Love With You." Lonesome, Wild & Blue features virtuoso bluegrass contributions from guest artists on mandolin, banjo, flatpick guitar, dobro, pedal steel, fiddle, and upright bass. Vocalist Brennen plays mandolin on several tracks and Brennen's brother Seth Hulbert plays guitar on all tracks and sings harmony vocals.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Gotta leave Fargo to get Famous.......2003-05-29

Brennen Leigh & her brother Seth left Fargo for the Texas Hill country and landed at Austin's SXSW festival in 2003. Their debut CD covers alot of ground--Roadhouse blues, alt.country, neo-trad country, bluegrass, with quality production. This album, especially the last track, is one of my Americana favorites on KRFC-FM.

    5 out of 5 stars A Great First Effort.......2002-06-07

Brennen Leigh's first CD leaves me wanting for an immediate second release. The blue grass/country sounds emanate from the past to enhance her own songs. The original tunes such as "Jesse James", No Way, Jose" and "The Legend of Benny Ambrose" are solid compositions and blend well with the standards. Her voice is powerful but soft when it requires. Produced by her guitarist brother, I anxiously await a follow-up.

Raw and heartfelt, these are intelligent songs played with the urgency of a live performance. I guess it's alt country - but rock fans should check this out. Vocal harmonies from Allison Moorer add color to the songs.

5 out of 5 stars STAGGERING Philly Country-Rock.......2000-11-12

From the first note I ever heard by Philadelphia's Lonesome Bob, I KNEW I'd found something special. Among the multiple descriptive adjectives that come to mind concerning this album: Powerful, Hard-Driving, Thought-Provoking, Catchy, Gorgeous, Shocking, Violent, Tragic, Blasphemous, and above all-- INTELLINGENT. He covers the "usual" in unusual ways, and the unusual in ways sure to inspire double-takes ("Did I really HEAR that?"). Highlights: "Love Is Not Blind" (people should be more aware of their own actions), "Point Of No Return" (the overwhelming draw of infidelity), "Waltzing On The Titanic" (a peaceful ending of a broken marriage), "What Went Wrong" (do psychiatrists CAUSE more problems than they "cure"?), "The Plans We Made" (a pair of bad marriages leads to a double murder), and "My Mother's Husband" (which includes one of my favorite turns of phrase on the CD: "It's not some complex psychological dynamic, it's just that loneliness is more problematic"). Then there's probably my favorite song on the disc, "Heaven's Gate", which looks at the problems with organized religions ("I was raised a Roman Catholic, they told me everyone else was wrong; which seems somewhat sociopathic, but hey, what the hell-- I belong!"). You just don't find stuff like this on your "average" country album!

Back in the 80's, Bob was the drummer in THE BEN VAUGHN COMBO (see THE PRHISTORIC BEN VAUGHN, THE MANY MOODS OF BEN VAUGHN, BEAUTIFUL THING). With Vaughn in L.A., Bob went to Nashville to do this remarkable collection. Ben joins him for the finale, a high-speed remake of "Sleepless Nights". Of recent country albums, only Kevin Johnson's & The Dixie Chicks' have affected me as much as this one!

            4 out of 5 stars Overlooked Gem.......2000-02-05

Well, here is another record that has seemed to fall through the cracks, because radio couldnt quite put a label on it, Is it Rock? or Is it country?..... Lonesome Bob cuts all the fat away, and gets right to the raw meat. Fans of Steve Earle,Chris Knight,Fred Eaglesmith etc.. should pick this up.
