Album Description
From composer David Arnold (Casino Royale, Independence Day) comes the sweeping original score to the motion picture Amazing Grace. Recorded in London with some of the world's top musicians, Arnold brings to life the intense journey of Williams Wilberforce and his quest to abolish the British Slave Trade in the UK during the 1700s. Amazing Grace is the story of the famed hymn, its author John Newton (Albert Finney) and the powerful journey of William Wilberforce (Loan Gruffund- A&E's Horatio Hornblower, Fantastic Four) the man who risked his life and followed his calling to end slavery. Wilberforce's dream finally came true around the time of his death. Britain's slave trade was abolished and slaves were finally free. Experience this music journey as history unfolds and the power of one voice changes the world.
Customer Reviews:
Adequate David Arnold Soundtrack.......2007-07-10
This soundtrack tries to make up a lot for the meandering film. Arnold does a good job. However, I think Arnold should just stick to James Bond soundtracks.
First Rate Performance.......2007-05-09
Cannot do better than timely delivery of what was advertised and ordered.
disappointed in the extreme.......2007-04-26
I bought the soundtrack with the hope that the best song on the movie - the bagpipes version of Amazing Grace at the end of the film - would be on it. It is not.
If your objective is to get that bagpipe song, don't get the CD. the other songs are ok, but nothing to write home about.
Arnold's Serious Side: "Amazing Grace".......2007-04-18
Fresh from his well-received score for the latest Bond epic, "Casino Royale," David Arnold has turned to a far more somber and serious project with Michael Apted's important film about the beginning of the end of slavery in the British Empire, "Amazing Grace." This is not the first time Arnold has worked with Apted, note another Bond effort "The World is Not Enough," so we expected the two to be rather comfortable with one another. And a good match it has proven to be this time around. Arnold has produced a score as serious as the subject matter. It is intelligent, moving and at times quite poignant. One might have expected Arnold to simply integrate the well known hymn which naturally plays a role in the story and do a number of variations on it (much like his integration of the Bond theme into his 007 music), but instead he has created his own themes, including an especially haunting main theme, in a fine score. Arnold has proven himself in the action-adventure genres and we have been waiting for a more mature score, having tasted bits and pieces in a host of other works. Here we see that David Arnold is a capable composer across the spectrum. Well produced by EMI, the soundtrack is somewhat disappointing in its packaging; the promotion for "The Amazing Change" is appropriate and deserving of mention, but more could have been done about the film and music themselves. The promo for the "music inspired by the film" is a bit much though given that none of it is actually in the film.

Great topical songs-excellent pickin'.......2004-10-24
Ok-I like bluegrass music. If you're reading about this CD-I'm sure you probably do to. As a frustrated musician, I listen to all types of music, and have accumulated an extensive collection of recordings of all types of music over the past 40 some years. During this 40 some years, I've heard recordings by an artist, and was so impressed by the music, that I sought out whatever music that artist recorded. Larry Cordle falls into that category, and I was fortunate enough to see him in concert locally a couple years ago. Very entertaining, great musicianship. Although this CD is pretty old now(1992), this is my favorite for it's topical songs, although I enjoy his newer recordings as well. These songs conjure up images-they paint vivid pictures in your mind while listening to Larry's verse. Great stories that most anyone can relate to. Check out Lonesome Standard Time, You can't do wrong and get by, Lower on the Hog, Little Cecil, You can't take it with you when you go, as well as Highway 40 Blues(which Mr. Cordle wrote, and Ricky Skaggs had a huge hit from). Guest appearances by Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs and Tater Tate.

Good bluegrass instrumentals.......2003-02-19
A real whiz-bang fiddler who's been around for a while, but shows no signs of slowing down. Duncan saws away in a variety of styles, from sizzling hoedowns to a few drippy Alison Krauss-y crossover arrangements. Pals including Earl Scruggs, Jesse McReynolds and Bobby Osborne pitch in on a tune or two... As with most all-instrumental fiddle albums, a little bit goes a long way, but it's all pretty good. Oh, wait: did I say "all instrumental"? Actually the last track, "Touch Of The Master's Hand," a deliciously goofy recitation tune with a not-so-hidden religious message. Nice album!
Glen Duncan - premier fiddler on OMS Records.......2003-01-26
There are only a handful of instrumentalists who have been as influential in bluegrass and country music in the last few years as fiddler Glen Duncan. He has been in several of the hottest bluegrass groups during this period, including Longview, Rock County, and Lonesome Standard Time.
Glen has also been a contributor to some of the biggest selling records in country music as one of the most popular session
recording artists, and most recently he was widely featured on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken (Volume 3)" release on Columbia Records.
Glen Duncan won the Grammy for Best Country Instrumental in 2001 with the recording of Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Earl Scruggs, and he has recorded with artists as diverse as Bill Monroe, Shania Twain, John Denver, George Strait, Mark Knopfler, Reba McEntire, George Jones, Faith Hill, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, The Statler Brothers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jimmy Davis, Hank Snow, Kenny Chesney, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Vince Gill, Patty
Loveless, and literally scores of others.
This recording features Glen with a collection of original tunes and groundbreaking renditions on two standards of the fiddle repertoire. In addition, Glen is joined by country music legends Earl Scruggs, Bobby Osborne and Jesse McReynolds. Grand Ole Opry announcer Eddie Stubbs contributes a rousing rendition of the classic story, "Touch of the Master's Hand."
This release on OMS Records promises to excite fans of the fiddle everywhere and features one of the finest fiddlers of modern times.

Album Description
Emotionally charged pop songs that are very real. Inspired by the human experience, the songs naturally find their way into the listener's understanding. Heavily influenced by the work of Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson). Features percussion and additional sounds by Danny Frankel.

Amazing and Captivating Album.......2002-01-16
If you like Dave Matthews Band, U2, Counting Crows, and Dido, and you want something new, this is the album for you. It's a good rock CD, but without the tired and repetitive melodies that are always on the radio. The music is mellow yet upbeat, and there are some great harmonies in the tunes. Warning- if you're listening to this on headphones, you'll be sorely tempted to sing aloud, potentially embarassing yourself.
