Jones At Home With Hits & Standards.......2003-05-30

The Green, Green Grass Of Home CD features songs included on the US album releases Green, Green Grass Of Home and Funny, Familair, Forgotten Feelings. Many of the songs included are remakes of classic country western genre songs, along with a few standards such as "My Mother's Eyes". Jones even covers the legendary Johnny Cash with a more rock oriented update of "ring Of Fire". Most of the songs tend to the romantic ballad side, although musical arrangements mostly stay true to a more country and less orchestral sound, which was uncommon for Jones in the late 60's. The highlight is the title track, an international smash hit single that gave Jones his second #1 hit in the UK and his first major hit single of consequence in the US after the teen following of "It's Not Unusual" and "What's New Pussycat" from two years earlier.

A True Classic.......2003-11-08

This is one of the great country albums of all time. The song "Green Green Grass of Home" is absoulutely beautiful and nobody could sing it like Porter.
"Slew Foot" has been covered by just about every Bluegrass group out there and many don't realize that it's actually an old Porter Wagoner song, but here you have the original version complete with Buck Trent's electric banjo (which is very easy to mistake for a telecaster in many of Porter's songs).
The third song and last of the three hits on this CD is "Eat Drink And Be Merry", a real tear jerker.
The non-hits here are just as good as the hits with "A Stranger's Story" which is a story song with a bit of a surprise ending and then "False True Lover" (which the Osborne Brothers did as "Fair And Tender Ladies" and most recently Dolly Parton recorded this song under the title of "Little Sparrow")
Next we have a couple of cute little toe tappers, "You Can't Make A Heel Toe The Mark" and "Men In The Little White Suits", (the latter of which would go well if followed by "The Rubber Room), "The Keeper Of The Key" is a beautiful love song as is "They Listened While You Said Goodbye."
The last song on this set may be the best one and even though this was recorded in 1968, this song is very timely. IT's called "I Dreamed I Saw America on Her Knees." When I listen to this song, I'm reminded that America needs God right now like never before. I would say that when you listen to this CD, you'll wind up playing that song over and over.
When it's all said, buy this one. It's cheap at twice the price. Thanks to RCA for re-issuing this classic.

One of Porter's bets albums to date!!!.......2001-01-11

I got this album a few weeks ago from a local record store here in Chicago, and after going through each track, the second, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth were some of the best music Porter has ever sung. I regard this album my favorite and Porter is one of my favorite country singers. I don't recommend a great many things to buy, but if you are a fan of Porter Wagoner and love traditional country music, you can't go wrong with this album. Get it, and you'll love it!!

This cd contains all of Tom Jones' greatest hits. I like that I could slim my cd library down by replacing several cds with this just one volume. To me, Tom Jones excelled in the 70s and that's where you can find his greatest songs (with the exception of his remake of Prince's "Kiss"). There are some standouts:
