This packed double-disc is the slim option for fans who find the Eagles' vaunted greatest hits sets too little and the boxed set too hefty. Hit singles large and medium are here, often ("One of These Nights," "Hotel California") still sounding definitive and even tough. Large helpings of favorite album cuts are also included, along with a taster from a promised 2004 Eagles studio reunion. Unfortunately, "Hole in the World," Don Henley's response to September 11, feels just as empty and entitled as "Get Over It," the band's previous state-of-the-union message (from which the newer song represents a philosophical 180-degree turn). But for those seeking an overview of this Southern California juggernaut's successes, as well as telling comments from band members--mostly Henley and Frey--in a well-designed booklet, Very Best will more than do. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Dollars and (common) cents........2007-06-14
The Eagles are great. Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh. I'm sure glad Hell froze over for them. Not that their recordings as the Eagles have been any good since then, but at least we might get a chance to see them live in concert.
This CD is the 'Greatest Hits' I've been waiting for. No longer do you have to buy their 'Greatest Hits - 1971 to 1975' for $14 and also their 'Greatest Hits - Vol. 2' for $15, in order to get all of their best work. There are $16 worth of great songs on here, but it will cost you $20 for the CD on Amazon. The songs are: CD 1: Tracks 1,2,3,4,7,8,13,14,15 & 17; CD 2: Tracks 1,3,5,7,9 & 10.
Better yet, all of the songs I've listed are available on iTunes. So buy each of the 16 songs individually on iTunes and save yourself $4.
Hope this helps.

This is a darned good album that spans The Eagles portfolio of songs. The live album has a more refined sound due to age and experience of the band members BUT, this is a benchmark hits album of the original recordings.

Linda Ronstadt, who emerged from SoCal's vaunted early-'70s country-folk scene, became the American female rock superstar of the Me Decade. After the initial success of the Stone Poneys' Michael Nesmith-penned "Different Drum," Ronstadt expanded her horizons through interpretations of a long string of successful pop and R&B covers. Along the way she championed emerging songwriters like Warren Zevon ("Poor Poor Pitiful Me") and contemporary favorites like Neil Young ("Love Is a Rose") in the bargain. As the formula waned with the changing tastes of the '80s, she briefly turned to new wave before stepping boldly back to the pop standards of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. Unfortunately, this collection inexplicably skips over that three-album collaboration with arranger-conductor Nelson Riddle, a body of work that presaged the 1990s' lounge-pop revival by a full decade--and outclassed it by miles. It also eschews a compelling contemporary Latin chapter of her career in favor of her winning collaborations with Aaron Neville ("Don't Know Much" and "All My Life") and less successful AC fodder like "Winter Light" and "Somewhere Out There" with James Ingram. A good primer to Ronstadt's immense vocal talents and recording history, but one that's flawed by some crucial missing chapters. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

FAITHLESS LOVE.......2007-02-28
When I gained weight after the Army in 1980 and needed to lose weight, I took up jogging and it seemed that about evey night that I went out the adult contemporary radio station would play this phantom song that moved me deeply-SOMEONE TO LAY DOWN BESIDE ME. I had searched the record stores like crazy to figure out what the name of that song was that got to me so much. I found SOMEONE TO LAY DOWN BESIDE ME on her greatest hits album. It seemed to say to me that although I will never find the perfectly comptable mate, it seemed to me that what you get in life is someone to ;ay down beside you at night! I could understand this well!
Lately, when I bought a new table top stereo CD, I would put this soft romantic album on continual play and let ol' Linda sing me to sleep at night> I guess I was feeling pretty lonely at the time! My mom had to come into the room and turn off the stereo because this thing played on and on all night snd it drove my poor mom nuts! (I can also have a sense of humor when the neighbors don't annoy me!) Linda had a nice sweet romantic voice.
I was touched by HEART LIKE A WHEEL-"its only love that can take a human heart and turn it inside out!". And since my divorce, I have done my share of finding the girl of my dreams who at one time actually in my sleep since 1984 was this pretty little bleach blonde girl. That's a phantom girl, too. You can really mess your head up talking to so many pretty girls and they all turn you down.
Then the duet she sang with Erin Neville, to me I call it I DON'T KNOW MUCH! I would also put this sweet romantic song on repeat play when I was awake.
I seem to recognize that she had a Motown influence and a country influence. I recognize a Chuck Berry song and a Smokey Robinson song "OOH OOH OOH BABY BABY-gives me dirty feelings when she sings it. And I thought I picked out a Hank Williams song-was FAITHLESS LOVE on that album? But of course there were songs used in commercials-like ITS SO EASY to sell spray cleanser. And JUST ONE LOOK to sell Japanese cars. I used to really be into music!

Only a handful of bands have made a greater impact with fewer recordings than the short-lived Buffalo Springfield. Their history is told in the titles of their three albums: 1967's eponymous debut was followed by the peak-performance Again later that year, which was followed by 1968's Last Time Around. While their entire recorded career encompasses a mere two years, the Stephen Stills-Neil Young-Richie Furay-led quintet produced a number of '60s rock classics. Stills chipped in "For What It's Worth" and "Bluebird"; Furay's "Kind Woman" is one of the touchstones of country-rock; and Young fired off the likes of the raucous "Mr. Soul," the gentle "I Am a Child," the ambitious "Broken Arrow," and the breathtakingly pretty "Expecting to Fly." They're all on this 12-song overview, a suitable option for anyone who isn't up to stocking up on the entire catalog. --Steven StolderCustomer Reviews:

THE LEGEND OF BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD LIVES ON WITH SOME OF ROCK'S GREATEST ANTHEMS EVER........2007-04-16
BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for recording some of Rock's most legendary sacred anthems ever. When Stephen Stills met up and joined forces with Neil Young, Richie Furay, Dewey Martin and Bruce Palmer, later replaced by Jim Messina, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD would be born and a great multi-talented group would soon be a mega force to be dealt with. Although BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD only lasted a mere two years, the band would record only three albums and numerous hit singles. BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD contributed and accomplished so much in a short period of time that the band can never be denied the amount of great Rock anthems that were recorded in that short two year span. "RETROSPECTIVE - THE BEST OF BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD" is the result of the many great hit songs that the band recorded during their two year reign. In my opinion, this legendary masterpiece compilation album is without a doubt, a definite true testament of five extremely talented musical masterminds and is a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was truly indeed, far ahead of their time.
It is now time to let the Rock n' Roll music of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically. This legendary masterpiece compilation album begins with one of the all-time greatest Rock anthems to ever document the Vietnam War, "For What It's Worth," the breathtaking Rocker "Mr. Soul," the slow and smooth sounding "Sit Down, I Think I Love You," the slow soothing "Kind Woman," the beautiful uplifting "Bluebird," the beautiful heartfelt "On The Way Home," the incredible beautiful sounding "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing," the blistering half live and half studio version of Neil Young's "Broken Arrow," the beautifully well arranged mild number "Rock And Roll Woman," the encouraging Country Rocker "I Am A Child," another great Country Rocker entitled "Go And Say Goodbye" and the the slow and beautifully orchestrated song "Expecting To Fly." May I also add that this legendary group mainly comprising of the talented mega-star lineup of Stephen Stills, Neil Young and Jim Messina contributed some of Rock's most beautiful musical arrangements while including and containing some of the most powerful lyrics ever.
Overall, this is one hell of a greatest hits compilation album worth seeking further research into and checking out especially if you are a hardcore diehard BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD fan or a devout music historian or collector. As for all of the curious newcomers and new beginners that are not familiar with the sound and music of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD but have to write a book report in U.S. History on Rock anthems during the Vietnam War in the 60's and early 70's, this album is definitely for you.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary masterpiece compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This greatest hits treasure album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great compilation album that no hardcore music fanatic or devout music historian or collector would want to be without. Please buy this album, you'll be glad that you did. You can research and purchase all of BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD'S catalog collection either through Amazon com or your local Borders books and music store.
In closing, as I stressed earlier in this review, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD would only last a mere two years. However, three of the band's legendary members would move on to bigger green pastures and greater things which would only add more fuel to the BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD storied legend and legacy. Stephen Stills, Neil Young and Jim Messina would not only have successful solo careers, but would enjoy being in other bands as well. Stephen Stills and later Neil Young would become part of the legendary band CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG while Jim Messina would enjoy success as part of a dual act in the band Loggins and Messina with Kenny Loggins. With all of the great albums that these combined legendary bands have recorded, their roots and influence while in BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD is fully intact and can never be denied. BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD has forever left their mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. So here's to you Stephen, Neil, Richie, Dewey, Bruce and Jim. Thanks for the great memories. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD FOREVER. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

I love that their songs have some point while still being upbeat, for the most part, which is a rare feat- I've found most light songs lack any real depth.
My favorite song on this CD was 'Anna Begins', but they were all amazing.
I also had the chance to see the Counting Crows live in concert, and that was amazing too- I think the live version adds to the depth of the songs, so now I'm planning to buy their live CD as well.
I'd definitely recommend this CD to anyone.

This collection exists for that guy who has heard "Touch of Grey" and "Truckin'" on the radio and wants to own them, but doesn't want to wear tye-die. It exists for that young kid who has heard legend of the Dead, but was too young too see them and missed the boat. It exists for the folks who are curious about their music yet feels intimidated by the vast amount of material available out there (106 officially released titles to date, not including all the tapes out there...) .
This disc exists for these folks, and in that light it works very well. Sure, it's incomplete as any single-disc best of by a band who recorded for 30 years would be, but it covers all the major bases. And it does so better than the "Skeletons...", "...Long Strange Trip..." and "Arista Years" compilations do, and is far-superior in sound quality than any of them. Above all, it whets the appetite for more.
So for the uninitiated, this is the best place to begin your long, strange trip. For some, this may be all you need. But chances are you'll find yourself wanting more...

Less than two years after the death of her mentor, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris recorded her first album for Reprise. Pieces of the Sky inaugurated a suite of four mid-'70s albums and a surprising number of hits: her sound was clearly traditional, but also tastefully up-to-date with folk-rock and singer/songwriter styles, and her crystalline, febrile vocals took standards such as "Love Hurts" and "If I Could Only Win Your Love" back up the charts. This compilation brings together her biggest hits, and shows why Harris is important and why she continues to make adventurous country music. Through unfailingly tasteful song selection, brilliant occasional songwriting, and her cool, velvety soprano, Harris extended Gram Parsons's vision of "cosmic American music" and made it her own. --Roy KastenAlbum Description
Masterful at rock, country, folk, bluegrass, and more, Emmylou Harris is one of the most distinctive and visionary voices in contemporary music. The artist's lucid, achingly gorgeous vocals and a string of celebrated albums-many featuring her acclaimed "Hot Band"-have earned Harris eleven Grammys and made this alt-country/roots-rock innovator a legend in her own time.Customer Reviews:

After immeasurable success in the U.S., Faith Hill finally comes to Europe, and There You'll Be is a sort of catch-up for the best bits we may have missed along the way (or, in other words, a greatest hits collection for the uninitiated). A dozen songs which map the path of the Georgia singer, it includes the massive hit for which she has come to be known over here--"There You'll Be," from the Pearl Harbor soundtrack--together with some pop anthems like "The Way You Love Me (Love to Infinity Mix)." However, the style she delivers most convincingly is that of her roots in country, with "Let Me Let Go", "Piece of My Heart," and "You Give Me Love" from the earlier albums being the clear highlights of this collection. --Gunther MatejkaAlbum Description

Album Description
The emergence of North Carolinian Randy Travis heralded a sea change in contemporary country. The true pioneer of the hugely popular new traditionalist movement, Travis helped reconnect the genre with its roots. His 1986 debut, Storms Of Life, delivered two #1 singles and became country's first-ever multiplatinum album. Getting back to basics never felt so good, and Travis remained countryâs dominant voice for years- "Forever And Ever, Amen," from '87's Always & Forever , launched a run of seven consecutive country chart-toppers. He hit #1 most recently in '03 with the award-winning "Three Wooden Crosses," and he remains indisputably, one of country's all-time superstars.Customer Reviews:

While "progressive bluegrass" might sound like an oxymoron, it's a good description of this dynamic acoustic trio's approach. Fans of traditional string-band music might flinch at Nickel Creek's experimentation, but there is little doubt that the threesome has attracted the largest crossover audience to the genre since Jerry Garcia. Still, the rigors of working together since they were teens have prompted an open-ended sabbatical at the end of their 2007 tour. Cue the Christmas 2006 hits package--it's the perfect time to cash in on the catalog with the band still hot as an active unit. Since Nickel Creek has recorded just three albums for Sugar Hill, it does seem a bit premature for this recap. But the label has done an admirable job by adding a bonus DVD of the act's seven videos and arranging the audio tracks in non-chronological order to enhance the flow. If anyone had any doubts that these youngsters were the future of bluegrass, Reasons Why should erase them. They never let their instrumental virtuosity on guitar, fiddle, and mandolin get in the way of writing terrific material such as "When in Rome"--a should-have-been hit on the order of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion"--and they also deliver the goods in concert. A nine-minute live version of "The Fox"--one of two previously unreleased performances that close this collection--proves they can mash up Bach, Bill Monroe, and Dylan with such cool aplomb, one can only imagine what the future holds. Until then, we have this compact reminder of Nickel Creek's strengths and potential--a superb collection that is as classy and challenging as the group itself, and leaves the listener wanting more. --Hal HorowitzCustomer Reviews:

This particular collection, selected from all of their releases, is wonderful and serves as a good introduction to the trio and their music.
