Editorial Reviews
Sara Storer's 3rd album 'Firefly' heralds the emergence of a more mature songwriter and reflects her changing environment. While she no longer lives in the outback or country of Australia, her powers of observation have sharpened and her yearning for contact with her friends, family and characters from the country has grown even stronger. Sara's long-time musical influence Paul Kelly, dropped by to perform a duet on a song and The Waifs' renowned guitarist, Josh Cunningham, not only provided a song 'Important Things' on which he dueted but also played guitar on a number of tracks. Her brother Greg Storer, has written the delightful song 'Billabong' and performs on 'Chiller's Bend' too. Includes a bonus DVD (PAL/Region 0) featuring the 'Making Of Firefly Documentary' & 'Firefly' videoclip.*Please note you will need an All Code DVD player to view. ABC Country. 2005.

Great Music!.......2007-07-16
Greg Edmonson did an excellent job composing the music. He really captured the essence of the show. I think it was a bad move on Joss Whedon's part to not go with Edmonson for the movie's soundtrack (Serenity). This CD is a must have for great music lovers, be it acoustic, classical or Celtic. This is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.
Must Have Soundtrack With a Few Omissions.......2007-07-08
Like the movie soundtrack for Serenity, the only real down side is the absence of one or two small pieces. In this case, the absence of The Hero of Canton from the episode Jaynestown is something that must be made up with a download from the internet.

" Too Much! ".......2002-01-17
Now for Remler. She graduated Berklee College of Music at age 18, and recorded this album, her first as a leader, in 1981 at the age of 24. Listening to her playing, you would think that this was a player of vastly more experience and years. Being a Jazz musician myself I feel that I know a little bit about musicians and their talent levels, and I can honestly say that with this being the first time I actually heard Remler, I was very surprised at what I heard. She plays with a very easy style, and does not fall prey to the mistake that a lot of players make--playing too many notes just to show how fast they can play. She gets a very easy to listen to Jazz tone from her guitar, and her solos are constructed very intelligently. She goes for musicality rather than showmanship, and it pays off well.
While there is no clear cut "best" tune on the album, the seldom heard but very beautiful bossa by A.C. Jobim called "Look to the Sky" is very beautifully played. While Remler is a fine soloist, her exicution of cool, well placed chords is equally impressive.
All in all, this is a very fine album. On the liner notes there is a quote from the famous Jazz author, W. Royal Stokes. It reads...."Remler is a prodigy and a phenomenon....Too much!" Indeed.

Joseph Lamb, a white musician who lived from 1887 to 1960, was considered one of the major ragtime composers of his era. By the end of his life, he had fallen into total obscurity, and even the ragtime revival hasn't made him a household name. His rags are different in style from Scott Joplin's, generally briefer and simpler in construction but still filled with lovely melodies and unaffected charm. The "American Beauty Rag," from which this disc takes its name, is only one of Lamb's many delicious miniatures (most of them under three minutes). Virginia Eskin has the style of this music down perfectly. She plays with just the right tempos (a trifle faster than would be appropriate for most of Joplin) and a lyrical sensitivity that doesn't prevent her from showing rhythmic drive. We're used to more than 49 minutes of music on most CDs, but 20 of Lamb's rags in a row are enough for one listening session. Don't give up before you reach the last one, though; "Nightingale Rag" is one of Lamb's best. A fascinating byway in American music is effectively explored and presented in realistic sound. --Leslie GerberCustomer Reviews:
American Sorta-Beauties.......2007-05-06
I paid the money so I don't intend to return the CD. But it'll play well enough in my noisy car driving to and from work.
Good, but not great.......2005-10-10
good.......2005-07-31
first of all in several rags virgina doesn't repeat where it says it must. second she plays several rags way to fast. Joe lamb was just like the others that ragtime must not be played fast the feeling get lost in the a rag that is played to fast like ragtime nightingale. I have the sheetmusic myself and it says "slow march tempo" not fast like virginia it plays.
but its a good album she plays with flair and style
Exquisite!.......2002-12-29
Excellent Rags Played with Gusto.......2002-08-04
The pianist has a great love of the material, and it shows in her playing.
I highly recommend this CD to all fans of ragtime.

What an exquisite song!
Featuring haunting lyrics and a sublime lead vocal by Jacqui Hunt (of Single Gun Theory), this is without question the most stunning track from Delerium's much lauded "Karma" album.
"Euphoria (Firefly)" blends ritualistic tribal chants with a symphony of delicate electronica that literally sweeps you away in its timeless majesty.

Lanza in (mostly) top form.......2004-11-28
Serenade marked Lanza's return to films after an absence of three years, and revealed a voice that had darkened considerably, while still retaining its brilliant upper register. Stylistically, this is also a much-improved artist in many respects from the sometimes-wayward tenor of the early 1950s. Anyone who compares Lanza's superbly operatic renditions here of Amor Ti Vieta, Lamento di Federico, and O Paradiso with his earlier versions (all featured on the CD Mario Lanza Sings Opera Arias and Duets) will immediately detect the new-found control in his singing.
That's not to say that all of the Serenade material is outstanding. Lanza's renditions of Nessun Dorma, O Soave Fanciulla, Di Quella Pira, and the title song are below par, with the tenor uncharacteristically strained in the upper register and rough in his approach. But redeeming everything are the oustanding renditions of the arias mentioned in the previous paragraph, together with Lanza's sensitive singing of Di Rigori Armato from Der Rosenkavalier, a superb Torna a Surriento, and an unsurpassed Dio! Mi Potevi Scagliar from Otello. Lanza also recorded the Act III duet from Otello with Licia Albanese for this film, but time constraints have reduced it to a brief extract here. (The entire duet, however, can be heard on the aforementioned Arias & Duets CD.)
The other album featured here showcases the romantic side of Lanza. Beautifully recorded, Cavalcade includes passionate renditions of Yours is My Heart Alone, Only a Rose, Will You Remember, and other selections from operetta and musical comedy. Although Lanza may indeed be *too* zestful here for some tastes, vocally at least, he is at the height of his powers. The voice is rich and round - gloriously consistent throughout its registers - and the abundance of effortless B flats, Bs, and even a high C reveal a tenor in formidable form.
Highly recommended.

Firefly flys but not much fire.......2007-02-28
I love Uriah Heep and think the albums Innocent
Victim and Fallen Angel were all brillant. Firefly
just seems too laid back but has some great songs.
Who Needs Me, Wise Man, Do You Know are all classic
Heep songs and the bonus track Crime of Passion is a
killer and should've been included on the album. After
listening to Firefly I go back to High n' Mighty and
Innocent Victim albums which are much stronger than this.
But if your a Heep fan like me you won't be disappointed
is you get it and it's worth a listen. OH the live version
of Who Needs Me is a killer!
The most underrated album of the bands career........2004-09-21
If you are looking for the heavy side of the band, this album is not it. The material on this album is closer to the laid back tracks that dominate "The Magician Birthday". This album features more keyvboard dominated songs than guitar oriented songs.
Breakdown review of the tracks.
1. The Hanging Tree - UH returns to the fantasy theme on their earlier albums with this one. Nice guitar echo effects at the songs introduction.
2. Been Gone Too Long - Start out slow and then speeds up, though not too loud. Fits Lawton perfectly.
3. Who Needs Me. - A Southern rock boogie style song. Songwritter Ken Hensley would leave Heep for Southern rockers a few year later. His interest in Southern fried rock seems to show early here.
4. Wise Man - The Wizard, part II. Nice piano ballad that continues the theme of the Wizard on Demon and Wizards.
5. Do You Know - The weakest track on the album. A throw away.
6. Rollin On - Could easily be mistaken for a Paul Rogers' Bad Company ballad. Good song though.
7. Sympathy - Nice mid temple rocker.
8. Firefly - One of the best epic UH has ever done. Song by organist/guitarist Ken Hensley. Nice soft keyboards and accoustic guitars. Has a Crosby, Still, & Nash feel to it.
9. Crimes of Passion - Another song with a Bad Company feel to it.
10 A Far Better Way - This is a bonus track that should have made it on the original album. A soft ballad that sounds like it's was song by Ken Hensley (Doesn't sound like Lawton's gritty voice). Could have been an Elton John song. This song is a little different than the 1997 remaster version. There are a little more guitars featured in the 2004 deluxe remaster.
Also featured in the 2004 remaster are two previously unleased songs. Unlike any of the above songs, these are not album ready and are rough around the edges. You can still here scratches on these.
They are.
I Always Knew - Heep tries to do a Stevie Wonder type song on this. Very soulful. Wouldn't have sounded bad once it was cleaned up.
Dance Dance Dance - Heep attempting to do Disco Disco Disco. Could have fit on the Fallen Angel album along side What you say.
There is also a live version of Who Needs Me that is much different than the album version.
