5 out of 5 stars A Great Soundtrack For a Great Movie!.......2006-04-26

This is probably one of the most complete scores you will ever find for an item, and the songs are all well-written and unique from each other. I will review a few specific tracks:

1. Main Title-The Brave Little Toaster has one of the creepiest intros, panning through the dark woods to find an empty cabin full of seemingly lifeless appliences. This haunting track works very well with it.

3. Blanket's Dream-I'm not keen on them leaving in the dialogue here, as you don't get the whole fantasy scene unless you've seen it. Still, Lampy and Radio's amusing lines are here, which is good.

4. The Air Conditioner Blows-For anyone who was terrified of this scene as a kid, this frantic track does the whole thing justice, with a grim ending.

6. Again, the dialogue and sound effects are left in, but they actually help the humor in this track. Lampy's voice is awsome.

8. City of Light-This is my favorite of all the songs. It's a bright and optimistic ballad-ish song when the appliences set out. They're all good singers, even though Lampy speaks a few of his lines. Very catchy.

10. The Pond-This one has to be heard to be believed. It's sound effects of the pond create lovely music, and the highlight is the opera singing fish (don't ask).

11. Toaster's Dream-I just have to say, this is a really scary track to accompany the scene that probably scared me the most when I was younger. That clown...

19. It's a 'B' Movie-This is a spooky number, and will remind you of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Preformed by the junkshop appliences (and a bit by the core group), it's the first showstopper.

22. Into the City-A Beautiful instrumental version of City of Light.

23. Cutting Edge-A techno number sung by the mean appliences that replaced the old ones. It has great lyrics and sounds just like some commercials from that era.

25. Worthless-A disco style song belted out by the poor cars at the junkyard before they all meet their "deaths" at a trash compactor. Catchy and sad at the same time, and a favorite of many.

26. Finale-A seven minute long song. Ranges from hopeful to frantic to a happy ending.

27. End Title-A very happy song to end the soundtrack.

Buy it now. It's everything you've ever dreamed of on the edge...and more!

4 out of 5 stars More sombre and heavier than previous efforts.......2007-04-22

Compared to the first three White Willow albums, Storm Season is a relatively heavier and darker album. While it still retains the aesthetics that defined their earlier work, it also incorporates a wider use of heavier guitar rhythms, metallic drums, and an array of cellos, flutes, and tambourines alongside regular prog rock instruments. Lars Fredrik Froislie puts in White Willow's most diverse keyboard work, utilising myriad synth sounds with piano, Mellotron, Hammond, subtle electronic textures, and many others. Aside from vocalist Sylvia Erichsen, there are also guest appearances to supply the songs extra depth and dimension.

The folky flute intro of "Chemical Sunset" is perhpas the only noticeable characteristic on the CD that could be linked with the band's more acoustic folky past. Brimming with Erichsen's sweet vocals and a blend of strings, the song boasts both sublime moody passages and elaborate unison solos. The ending sees a pronounced drum attack around which an eerie synth lead and guitar crescendo are built. From here on, the album, being a concept piece, retreats to a more sombre territory, introducing the story of Sally, the main character, in the brooding "Sally Left". Though all White Willow songs carry a distinct darkness to them, this one is imbued with utter despair. It mixes subtle sound effects into a textured, Mellotron-based song that also contains a vital cello motif in its framework. Holm-Lupo's acoustic guitar recalls Landberk while the ghostly voice of Teresa Aslanian lends credence to the dark lyrics. The Floydian guitar solo at the end is spine-chilling due to its weird harmonic structure and it complements the flow perfectly.

"Soulburn" and "Nightside of Eden" are among the heaviest songs they've penned, therefore alienating some of their older fans. The metallic edge in the guitar work, classically themed melodies, and somewhat jarring structure certainly drive the band from their older work known for its simplicity and bare beauty. "Soulburn" is especially a strong experiment, balancing male vocals with Erichsen's croon, thicker bass parts, and tension-filled guitar sounds. At certain points, the song takes on an almost avante-garde vibe, with its cluttered rhythmic angle and angular guitar work, but Holm-Lupo does throw in his trademark Floyd solo, which is arguably his most moving on this album. The quality of the composition is enhanced through further flute and string arrangements, so the piece never really loses focus.

Sylvia Erichsen's vocals on the predominantly acoustic ballad "Endless Science" and Bjork-like "Insomnia" are darker and more mood-intensive than ever. When she goes for the high register a capella type of vocals in the latter, it's like an excerpt from Bjork's Homogenic masterpiece. The use of sparse piano notes, frighteningly dark organ, and glockenspiel (awesome!) is awe-inspiring. The vocal climax at around the 3:18 mark is impossibly beautiful and haunting -- perhaps Erichsen's best yet. This song is simply amazing, emphasizing her vocals heavily without diverting from the instrumental aspects of their music. It moves through spacey arrangements to guitar-heavy passages that always culminate in timeless melodies.

The male vocal parts also bring in a welcome change to their songs, and I think they should somehow hook up with Ulver's Garm on a future release. Considering his work on The Gathering's Souvenirs with Anneke was otherworldly, I cannot fathom what it would sound like if he were to appear on a folky, somewhat Ulverian nordic piece providing contrast with his deep, unique vocal stylings. Sadly, this is the last album with Syliva Erichsen on vocals, but frankly, all White Willow discs are worth checking out -- they are essential in different ways.

4 out of 5 stars The Dark Side of White Willow .......2006-03-08

This is a hauntingly beautiful, yet dark, rock album with lots of textures. It takes a few listens to get into, but it's a very rewarding experience. Modern progressive rock continues to impress and White Willow have always been worth a listen, The range of music on this album is really good. 'Soulburn' is reminiscent of Pain of Salvation, whereas 'Nightside of Eden' reminds me a bit of Arena. This is only my opinion of course! Crank up the volume and make up your own minds - I love the keyboards on this album!

3 out of 5 stars Left me conflicted.......2005-09-20

Although I think it is great the band have progressed from their last album (which I feel to be better), I don't agree with how they have progressed. The most notable difference from Sacrament is the addition of heavier guitars. What bugs me about them is that the riffs are rather basic in comparison to the acoustic and keyboard parts. The second half of the album really lags because of this; Soulburn and Nightside of Eden suffer from metal simplicity.

However there is still some great music here. The orchestrated parts are really nice, adding to the atmosphere of the band. And of course the acoustics are great. Endless Science is a beautiful song, Trude's voice is as melodic as ever, and the guitar solo is a nice touch. The track ends with some wonderfully evil arpeggios reminiscent of the last album.

The flute on the opening track Chemical Sunset is one of the reasons I love this band. Together with acoustic guitars this is one of the bands best. Also the distorted guitars are used in a progressive, rather than primitive way.

Storm Season is an album from a band willing to try new things and I like that. Although it doesn't always come off, the good tracks are worth the price of the CD. I look forward to what the band will come up with on their next album.

3 out of 5 stars Not my thing........2005-06-27

I am in no way dissing this band. Their sound is very original and what they are doing is very cool. I only found 2 songs to be enjoyable to my ears, otherwise, I didn't like that album that much.

I hope they keep coming up with this stuff though. It's very cool, just not my cup of tea.

5 out of 5 stars definitely worth the wait!.......2004-11-05

White Willow's fourth album was delayed on several occasions, and was a painful wait for me. All release date postponements are forgiven because the finished product of _Storm Season_ is great. While White Willow is a prog band originating in the 90s, they should not be confused with the neo-prog/third-wave AOR-inflected stuff people usually associate with 90s prog. White Willow's well of influences overlaps with 70s British symph-prog, they have managed to establish a very unique overall sound. I think it is a concept album in some manner of speaking, because someone named Sally is mentioned a lot, and the last few songs talk about storms.

_Storm Season_'s aural moods are darker than the relatively 'light' previous album. In terms of arrangements, there are more heavy guitars but also more mellotrons/synths than before. Otherwise, the band continues to hone its unique epic, emotional folk-symph-prog amalgam. The lineup is a bit different this time, with cello and more synths added to the rock band + synths and flute core. Vocalist Sylvia Erichsen sings far less sweetly, adding credence to the band's descent into dark heaviness. The production is characteristically pristine but this time the mix was handled by Alan Douches, who has done mixes for bands as varied as Dillinger Escape Plan and Yes. Although the music isn't really anything I would consider _heavy_, the heavily distorted guitars and chugging metal riffs ("Soulburn") bring a few important elements to the music. Holm-Lupo now has more of a scale on which to explore his already poignant deployment of dynamics. The heavier sound adds emotional emphasis to the flow of the album, and makes some of the progginess of White Willow seem downright angry. The hungry guitar riff opening "Nightside of Eden" cackling upon arpeggiated synths is some mad proggin'. Heaviness and storminess seem to me perfectly natural together, as on "Soulburn", with eerie verses of soft instrumentation and male vocals, a grinding, crunchy chorus and solo cello section.

The tremendously haunting title track arranged for synths and mellotrons, and incredibly atmospheric vocals by Erichsen: "Gather your children and pray they will be there when the dawn breaks / Sound all your warning bells and cry for the lost sailors at sea / They are the first who will know what a storm can be." "Endless Science" fits the bill for the album's short acoustic ballad. The ominous, valedictory opener "Chemical Sunset" adopts a traditional folk motif into its grumbling, eerily beautiful prog arrangement.

The performances are outstanding all around. There is never too much or too little. Holm-Lupo's imaginative songs are gripping and emotional, and the production is, as always, outstanding.

_Storm Season_ is my favorite White Willow album along with _Ex Tenebris_, and is definitely one of 2004's Norwegian musical treasures.

(P.S.: I almost dropped a log when I saw someone mention this band in the same breath as the FLOWER KINGS. They sound nothing alike. This band wipes the floor with those Swedish wiener-prog nerds.)

This song is horrible. This song is just "Nasty Boy" The Remix. This is just a sneaky way to make more money off of Biggie's old material. This song is just Verse one of Biggie's "Nasty Boy" from "Life After Death" a capella remixed with a new beat and remixed with still living musicians recording new material. Sorry but I am not buying. Just let Biggie RIP.

Enhanced CD. 'Nasty Girl' is the fantastic first single from The Notorious B.I.G. Duets album. Produced by Jazze Pha and with the all-star line-up of Jagged Edge, Nelly, Diddy and Avery Storm, this joint is a party anthem paying tribute to the ladies and borrowing from the B.I.G. classic, 'Nasty Boy'. Bad Boy. 2006.

1 out of 5 stars Please No more Biggie.......2007-06-07

"Nasty girl" is just "Nasty Boy" The Remix or Part 2. Biggie's verse is th same first verse from "Nasty Boy". Then The others on this recorded new material and a new name and new instrumental was given and it was passed off as a new song. That is not right. It seems that Biggie has no unreleased material left and Puffy/Diddy still wants to make money off of him but Isn't he already? Doesn't Puffy/Diddy still make money off of sales from "Ready to die", "Life after death" and "Born again"? and What about his "Press play" and "No way out". It seems to me that Puffy/Diddy will do anything with Bibbie to make money. This song suck and so does the Whole "Biggie Duets" Album. Puffy/Diddy needs to just let Biggie RIP
