Robert K. Oermann - Music Row Magazine, Feb. 2003
"With All Of My Broken Heart" "..this piano-vocal throws the spotlight on her remarkable songwriting....Somebody sign this chick......"

Product Description
The long awaited full length CD from the songwriter of the 9/11 radio phenomenon "Little Did She Know (She'd Kissed A Hero)" is a compelling compilation of styles reminiscent of BMI award winning songwriter, Kristy Jackson's many musical influences ranging from Carole King to Donald Fagen and is combined with a big lyrical dose of reality. Production styles vary from her simple trademark keyboard/vocal to fully produced R&B and pop tracks. "Body And Soul" her 3rd full length CD with 11 new original tracks is the most personal CD produced by the songwriter to date. The 12th and hidden track is dedicated to her Mom & Dad... a track that they had forgotten they'd recorded. What a gene pool.

These days, it seems anyone can make an R&B album. However, recording a soul album takes that special intangible element. The 17-year-old Devon, England, native first proved that she has it with The Soul Sessions, a collection of rare soul grooves. She does it here again with Mind, Body & Soul, her first album of original material. For those who thought that Stone could only interpret vintage ballads, witness the midtempo attitude of "Jet Lag." Backed by a thumping backbeat, Stone tells of a love of so all-encompassing that it is physically draining. On lead single, "You Had Me," Stone takes the persona of a woman done wrong with biting edge and a funky wah-wah guitar introduces her "get lost" sentiment over an infectious hook. Mind, Body & Soul also features a host of moving ballads that are reminiscent of the more downtempo fare characteristic of The Soul Sessions. The choir-backed "Security" is an organ-touched tale of love and support in the wake of tragedy. "Spoiled," a song Stone wrote with the legendary Lamont and Beau Dozier of Dozier-Holland-Dozier, is a romantically lush offering in which Stone's alto caresses the piano-driven arrangement. Other Mind, Body & Soul highlights include the hypnotic "Snakes & Ladders" and the roots reggae vibe of "Less Is More." While The Soul Sessions introduced Stone to the world, this album will make her placement in the soul canon undeniable. --Rashaun Hall

5 out of 5 stars I liked every song!.......2007-07-10

This is Joss Stone's second album and I'm happy to say every song is good. I can't believe how talented she is. Her soulful vocals are the highlight of this album. I first heard Joss Stone on the radio with "Spoiled" and loved it. I was addicted to that song and it still remains to be my favorite song from the album. The first five or six songs are the best on the album but all of them are good. They're well written, well produced and well sung. If you have been curious about Joss Stone then I highly reccomend this album. I now am a Joss Stone fan. This is one of the best neo-soul albums since Heather Headley!

5 out of 5 stars AMAAAZING!!.......2007-06-09

I loooooooooove this album. It's definitley the best of her three. The only songs I don't care for are "Understand" and "Sleep Like a Child". The rest are amazinggggg. Esp You Had Me, Right To Be Wrong, Jet Lag, Killing Time, Snakes and Ladders, Security, and Dontcha Wanna Ride.

When I heard Killing Time, I thought for sure it was a remake because it sounded like such a classic song. THen I looked it up and saw that Joss wrote it, AMAZING!

5 out of 5 stars Premium quality white chocolate.......2007-06-01

I have a thing for white soul singers. No offence intended to black soul singers, who are of course brilliant. It's just that I feel a very interesting and unique vibe when that rare white singer excels at this genre. It is a hybridization of spiritualities. And Joss Stone possesses amazing soul, incredible talent and rich personality. All this at the tender age of 17 when she recorded this album (she's now 19). It's mind-boggling to imagine how much better she can still become.

'Mind, Body and Soul' is a bit of a paradox. It is raw, yet perfect: its youthful rawness itself is very charming. What I ask of listeners is to give it time. The songs are generally very simple, a throwback to the days when music (and life) was simpler and more sincere. Because some of these songs lack a catchy hook and seem so simple, you might not like them at first listen. But have a bit of that patience that music fans used to have, and you might find that the simplicity is accompanied by great sincerity and feeling. It is such a refreshing change in the 21st century to hear music that is simply good and heartfelt, with no stunts.

The songs that most people will like quickly are 'Right to be Wrong' (fabulous musicianship and lyrics), 'Spoiled' (richly sentimental and lush), and 'Jet Lag' (fun). But after about 5-7 patient listens, you might find that every song has the capacity to charm you and connect you with this young genius. The songs that grew most on me were 'Security' (beautifully sincere, stirring, pretty in its idealism) , 'Young at Heart' (youthful idealism and defiance), 'Snakes and Ladders' (energetically soulful), 'Understand' (very relaxed and really fun), 'Don't Know How' (classic-sounding) and 'Sleep like a Child' (tender night song).

The icing on the cake comes with the hidden track at the end. Joss unleashes her angsty side with an intensity and depth of feeling that are astounding for a fun-loving 17-year old.

Not since Vonda Shepard have I liked a white soul singer this much. Joss Stone is phenomenal for a 17-year old and is that rare kind of singer who can really move people deeply even though her vocal technique is still quite far from perfect. She makes up for it by singing straight from her amazing soul.

[...]Your thoughts and comments are most welcome.

5 out of 5 stars More of a good thing.......2007-05-31

Joss Stone continues with the formula that served her well in her first album, reaching back for some old school soul and putting her distinctive touch on it. There is a reason that some of the great artists and producers from the 60's and 70's have worked with her, they see that she has the gift to sing SOUL!!

Right to Be Wrong, Spoiled, Jet Lag, and Snakes and Ladders are just some of the highlights of this great album. The mix of songs shows her skill with dance tunes as well as slow jams.

There is absolutely no sophomore jinx here. If you really like soul, just listen to a couple of track samples and you will be hooked!

5 out of 5 stars Stone's Continuation Toward Greatness.......2007-04-20

On "Mind, Body, and Soul," Joss Stone had to follow up her phenomenal first release, "The Soul Sessions," where she took old but mostly unknown R&B songs and reworked them with a magic touch and a magic voice. So the challenge was clear: was she going to be able to do a CD of newer material and capture listeners as she has with the previous release?

I think the answer is a resounding yes. This CD demonstrates that "The Soul Sessions" weren't a fluke and that Joss Stone sounds just as good singing today's soul as she does singing yesterday's soul. She has a voice that shames vocalists with twenty or thirty more years of living than she has, and she seems to do it effortlessly.

"Right To Be Wrong," "Jet Lag," "Don't Cha Wanna Ride," and the other songs on "Mind, Body, and Soul" just prove that Joss Stone has a wonderful career ahead of her.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2007-07-18

I have one other Deepak meditation album which I gave four stars - this one, however, deserves the full 5!

Everything the other reviewers wrote, about feeling more focused, centered, balanced- is exactly how I felt after just one listening to the guided meditation. I tried it during the day and felt invigorated afterwards - and I tried it before bed and slept very restfully afterwards. I am relatively new to meditation and frankly not all that disciplined - I sometimes struggle to keep my mind from wandering - but I find this album really reins me in.

Highly recommended!

4 out of 5 stars Well worth checking out.......2007-06-29

I love Deepak Chopras voice for stuff like this whereas when I listen to audio books by him he tends to send me to sleep.

There are a billion meditation music cd's out there and better ones too. However, this is worth buying just for the guided chakra meditation. He walks you through the meditation explaining the name and purpose of each of the 7 major chakras without it ever feeling intruisive. There is plenty of time between his talking to allow yourself to concentrate on the chakra involved and go inside.

Of course you can do it on your own when you get used to what you are supposed to be doing but I still stick my Ipod on from time to time.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-06-25

Going through a very stressful period and having trouble with falling asleep, I have been buying all sorts of "healing" etc CDs. Some I promptly sold...this one I love! The first CD, music only, I play when I paint--it is gorgeous music and not in the least annoying, as some other similar CDs are. The 2nd CD, the Chakra meditation one, does wonders putting me to sleep. I haven't made it past the 2nd chakra meditation, so I have no clue what the rest of the CD does or says, but it doesnt matter--it works!. This package will be a favorite for a real long time.

5 out of 5 stars highly effective treatment.......2007-05-12

During the prelude on the guided meditation a voice calls this a "Subtle, yet powerful treatment." When I bought a guided meditation CD, I was not expecting a treatment, but that's really what this CD is, because even when my mind wanders while I am listening to it on the bus to work I still feel lighter and more connected after it's over. Something about the music behind the meditation has a real physiological effect on me.

I haven't listened to the massage music half of the CD very much, but it is very relaxing and not annoying at all. That's about the best anyone can say about most massage music that I've heard. It would also be great to do some freestyle meditation to.

5 out of 5 stars excellent choice.......2006-09-02

I have been looking when in myself and epsecially at my chakras in that of doing a lot of self healing and this CD set is great.
CD1 has some beautiful soft music and it does relax one after a hard day at work.
CD2 the chakra meditation is just as good in that one starts to work with the chakra centers and one will notice the difference in ones self ater using doing the meditation a few times.

A good buy.

5 out of 5 stars Craftsmanship at its Finest!.......2007-03-19

I have hundreds of CDs, and dozens of cool jazz, but ONE favorite--"Body and Soul Sessions"! The craftsmanship these three players exhibit on this album is of the highest caliber, and if you listen to just three tracks, "Do It Again", "September", and "Lovely Day", you will find all of the inspiration you need for a day! Philippe's inspired playing of both acoustic AND Fender Rhodes pianos illustrates the reason he is a much sought after session player; David Finck's acoustic bass performances comprise a study in precision and artisanship, and almost excruciatingly perfect playing; Scoota Warner's flexibility, and his ability to adapt to wherever the others take the song, makes him a more than worthy complement to their musicality (my favorite phrase of the entire album is the final few measures of "September", where Philippe breaks into a Latin flavor, and Scoota switches from the rim of the snare drum to full snare; that sound adds so much to what the other two are playing that it is almost a percussionist's "triumph".

Please try this album; if you love cool jazz, you will find something you like!

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic blend.......2007-01-05

This CD is a fantastic blend of Classic and Smooth Jazz. If you like Ramsey Lewis you'll love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars A musical masterpiece!.......2006-08-25

A truly top class album topped-off by the first track "do it again" - for me one of the best smooth jazz tracks I have ever heard.

An absolute must for any contemporary jazz fans across the world

5 out of 5 stars Superb!.......2006-05-31

This is a magnificent jazz CD, both artistically and technically. I have been a Philippe fan for about 5 years, with this being the third of his albums that I've purchased. I have always admired his eclectic blend of songs on each CD. This one is a bit more consistent, yet is remarkably fresh, with incredible phase shifts within some of the songs--a Philippe trademark in my opinion.

Don't let the "Trio" moniker fool you--the efforts on this CD skillfully punch out contemporary grooves, without betraying the trio instrumentation!! I was playing it in the car (by the way, sounds veerry nice on my Mark Levinson system), and I even caught my adolescent son bobbing his head and tapping his feet while listening to it.

I could rave on all day, but this CD is better experienced than discussed. You won't be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Destined to become a classic.......2006-04-25

I first heard Do It Again as I was driving in Orange Co., California. It was played by on-air personality Dave Koz. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. IMHO this track is destined to be a jazz classic. This was the best jazz track I have heard in a LONG time. The PS Trio plays with a joyful exuberance that we haven't heard since the late great Vince Guaraldi. These guys sound as if they are having a blast playing - which of course they are. Every track is a treat. Sharp, clean, and precise on each of the 12 songs. If you appeciate great jazz played by extremely talented musicians then this CD is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Body Moves: Non Stop Disco volume 1.......2007-05-27

I guess I was looking for something different than the other girls were looking for. I LOVE this CD. I go to an exercise class every day and this gets my blood pumping more than the music they play there.
When I put it on at home, I fly through the work that needs doing because of the beat. My adrenalin really gets pumping. I just bought the second disc in this collection.
Depressed? Throw this one on and you will feel great. Take it from one who knows.
And the music is fun to listen to.

1 out of 5 stars aerobic music that didnt work.......2007-05-15

I was disappointed when I found that I couldnt use this CD in my aerobic class. It says it is non-stop, yes, but it doesnt flow from one song to the other with the proper 32 ct beat. I like the music but that doesnt matter when I cant use it for what it was intended for.
Very disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars not worth it.......2006-05-05

the music was so slow paced, there is no way you can use this cd for a cardio workout. not worth a penny.

Pathetic for a cardio workout tape. I would like to see Amazon start noting the BPM on workout CD's.

4 out of 5 stars fun music.......2005-08-22

I bought this CD to jog to and I like it. The songs are fun and upbeat. What I like best about it, is that there is no breaks between songs, it goes from one song right into the next one. It would make a great CD for an aerobics class also.

This CD compiles several Coleman Hawkins sessions recorded between 1939 and 1956, capturing the masterful tenor saxophonist at the height of the swing era, in the midst of the bop revolution, and at the helm of large orchestras. While the quality of his accompaniments varies tremendously, Hawkins's contributions don't. The earliest session climaxes with his classic solo version of "Body and Soul," a landmark in both the harmonic language of jazz and improvised musical architecture. Another four tracks come from a 1940 octet date with some of Hawkins's old associates from the Fletcher Henderson band, Benny Carter (on trumpet here) and J.C. Higginbotham on trombone, along with the underrated clarinetist Danny Polo. It's small-group swing of the first order, with touches of traditional jazz in the improvised ensembles.

Tadd Dameron wrote the arrangements for a 1947 band that includes trumpeter Fats Navarro, trombonist J.J. Johnson, pianist Hank Jones, and drummer Max Roach. While the horns all solo fluently on Dameron's "Half Step Down, Please," it's the three ballad features for the leader that stand out, Hawkins drawing inspiration from Dameron's moodily dense harmonies. The settings are pedestrian at best for a series of 1956 recordings, with Billy Byers and Manny Albam writing arrangements. Hawkins bristles with individuality, whether soaring over a substantial big band on "The Bean Stalks Again," cutting a new path through a cluttered "Body and Soul," or counterposing his ruggedly magisterial horn to still fussier arrangements of "I Love Paris" and "Under Paris Skies." --Stuart Broomer

5 out of 5 stars Fabulously full sound.......2006-10-08

If you have not heard Coleman Hawkins, he has an amazingly full and rounded saxophone sound that some would kill for. I come from the Deep South (London England) and I love this music.

5 out of 5 stars Stark Raving Mad - The Life and Music Of The Hawk.......2005-04-23

Coleman Hawkins is not just one of jazz's best musicians but one of america's. Indeed he has many claims to fame - Practically bringing the Tenor to the public, and possibly inspiring the be-bop with his (at the time) extemely free and at times lengthy solo's. It would take a very long time to list the musicians who were under his influence (Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Charlie Rouse to name a few). The sets compiled on this cd, sound terrific. I have never heard music from 1939-1949 sound so great. Even though this disc ranges from 1939-1956 it flows extremly well together. Hawk dosen't change his style as much as the muscians around him do. Early on this set has a very 1/2, Train/March sound to the rhythm. Then be-bop hits, and Fats Navarro and Max Roach are with him, even Hawk adjusts for these sessions to a certian extent. The last sessions are are Hawk with Strings, are excellent. There is always a debate as to who is the classic king of the tenor? Coleman Hawkins or Lester Young, it is impossible to say, they both deserve the title. Also check out the extremly fun "Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins" for more hawk.

5 out of 5 stars Not enough Hawk.......2004-05-29

Referring to the 19 track RCA incarnation of this title:

This is 5 star material, as is most Coleman Hawkins. He is presented with half a dozen all-star orchestra and small groups recorded between 1939 and 1956. A swell way for the unintiated to get aquainted with the Mother of all (tenor) sax players. To hear the Hawk is to hear them all: you'll find shades of every tenor from Adderly to Rollins. The selections are carefully chosen for artistic merit and variety. The sound quality is quite good, even on the older sides.

The problem is, as an overview it is too narrow. Spend the extra money to get the 2CD "Retrospective 1929-1963" which contains 40 tracks, including all those on this CD. The Hawk is too huge a jazz legend to be captured on a dozen CDs, but at least the expanded release covers a sizeable chunk of his career. If you cheap it out and buy this one, you'll love it but in retrospect you'll wish you'd gotten the 2CD version.

Postscript 12/01/06: Although the 1929-1963 Retrospective is no longer available at Amazon, check out the $9 Quadromania 4CD set. Not quite as good audio quality, but a lot of bang for the buck. A lot of the Quadromania Fletcher Henderson trax feature Hawk, and he is prominent in Disk 4 of the Quadromania Pee Wee Russell collection.

A favorite and classic Jazz CD -- all six songs are excellent, the sound quality is great as well, and, something like "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis, it's considered by some a "must have" Jazz performance.

I really enjoyed this cd!! Especially Maria, Maria by Carlos Santana that song brought back so many memories it was a real joy to listen to. The other songs on this cd make for great listening pleasure. I would definitely recommend this cd to others.

4 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) Decent Compilation Of R&B Hits.......2007-02-09

R&B compilations can be a great way to get a collection of great songs that you have grown to love. Whether it be a bunch of slow jams, chart-toppers, or one-hit wonders, there's almost always a reason to get a music compilation these days. Sometimes the song you want is on an album that is out of print. Other times you have old tapes or records that have reached the end of their usefulness and you don't necessarily want to buy the whole album all over again. So buying a compilation saves you from missing out on all your favorite music you would otherwise have to live without. The Body and Soul series has been one of those standout collections that people can instantly rely on. The latest offering is Midnight Fire, a collection of hit R&B songs from the 90s and early 2000s. Standout songs like D'angelo's "Untitled (How Does It Feel?)," Jill Scott's "A Long Walk," "You Don't Know My Name" by Alicia Keys, "Why You Wanna Act Like That" by Tyrese, and Jon B's "R U Still Down" bless this collection. You are also treated to some classic gems from Dru Hill ("These Are The Times" and Sisqo's "Incomplete"), Ginuwine ("So Anxious"), R. Kelly ("When A Woman's Fed Up" and "Be Careful" with Sparkle), and Jagged Edge ("Promise"). There are a few songs like Toni Braxton's "Spanish Guitar," Donell Jones' "You Know What's Up," or Santana's "Maria, Maria" that don't blend well with the rest and shouldn't have made the cut to begin with. This collection probably doesn't have the strength of previous Body And Soul collections. But all in all, Midnight Fire is worth checking out for that pure, nostalgic feeling you get when listening to good, contemporary R&B music.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

5 out of 5 stars Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23

THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

5 out of 5 stars Joyful and free.......2006-11-06

Listening to Joss Stone and her wonderful, foggy voice can take you to any where (you think) you would like to be. Great CD! A cut above.

4 out of 5 stars Joss Stone has real soul and heart.......2006-05-02

I would recommend adding Joss' CD to anyone's collection of soul music. I am disheartened with the haters who want to jump on the 'white girl stealing the black woman's sound' or 'she's too young to sing songs with real soul'. Listen to her music and ignore her color and age. She certainly has experienced love, loss, happiness and sadness, these are universal. "Mind, Body and Soul" has three songs out of 17 that I don't care for, but the tracks that really hit with me make up for that. "Understand" was the song I first heard and Joss' voice laid over the starting lonely arpeggiated guitar caught my attention and the careful addition of instruments and backing vocals as the song continues builds the energy and tension. Listen to the backing vocals and you know the production group understands soul. "Right to be Wrong" evokes Janis Joplin with a Gladys Knight vibe. "Jet Lag" speaks to the intoxication of love - years back Lisa Stansfield would have recorded this. "Spoiled" is a Slow Jam if I have ever heard one. "Don't Cha Wanna Ride" is just a feel good old school ditty laid over the "Soulful Strut" sample. I saw a reviewer on another site ask 'Why did they put a song about a car in the middle of the album?' - The guy needs to get a clue, the song is not about a car - it is a metaphor! The song is a girl shaking her hips and smiling. It makes me want to go buy a convertible and take my wife on a drive and picnic by the oceanside. Imagine my surprise when I watched the included DVD videos and the video for this song is set along a beach drive! "Torn and Tattered", "Killing Time", "Less is More" and "The Right Time" make my play list. Skipped tracks are "You Had Me", "God Only Knows" and "Call it Christmas".

5 out of 5 stars A YOUNG JANIS JOPLIN.......2006-02-10

THIS IS A VERY SOULFUL DISC. JOSS'S VOICE HAS A HOARSE, FULL
BODIED R&B SOUND. VERY UNIQUE. SHE SEEMS SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN
BORN IS THE 70'S. THIS ALBUM HAS A STORY TO TELL. IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY. SHE SOUNDS LIKE A YOUNG JANIS JOPLIN.

5 out of 5 stars Not his usual stuff.......2007-04-18

Back in the 70's, this was definitely a giant step for QJ, moving from his Jazz sound to the heart of commercial Soul; and who knows or feel music better than QJ? The result is a soul album yet based from all the Jazz sound QJ feels.
Released in 1974, this album did not age a single day; on the contrary, in today's fast life, if you are not in a Jazzy mood nor in the R&B or soul mood, this album would perfectly fit on your CD player, because it is not really Jazz, Soul or R&B, yet it has all these sounds well mixed and tuned into each other.
Last and not least, if you enjoy this album, make sure to check the followings:
The Brothers Johnson; Look out for # 1 (produced and arranged a year later by Mr. Jones with the same feel as `Body heat")
War: the world is a ghetto
Roy Ayers: Mystic Voyage
Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Superb.......2006-02-21

Quincy Jones translates to "genius" in my opinion. A perfect example of how Jones is a revolutionary in the music industry. From seductive jazz-pop in "Body Heat" to moody conscience songs in "Everything Must Change" to funky jazz in "One Track Mind" (my favorite), this album ranks among Quincy's best, and that's a tough goal to achieve.

5 out of 5 stars Quincy At A Potent Juncture.......2005-07-20

It has taken me a very long time to fully appreciate how wonderful this album is!In the early 1970's Quincy Jones was beginning to retool his sound to accomadate more rhythmic elements replacing his swinging big band sound. And on 'Body Heat' he completed his conversion.Plain and simple. No particular song stands out but it's certainly the marking of a new and funkier era in Q's sound!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful vocals & fine arrangements..........2003-07-22

This whole album always sounded like a conceptual soundtrack or score for a stage production. I always visualised Arthur Murray or Martha Graham arranging a dance project to go with this album. The arrangements are superb on every track...the lyrics of the songs are beautifully phrased. I first heard this album back in 1976 and was impressed by the tremendously emotional vocals of Bernard Ighner on the track "Everything Must Change' (very much like Billy Eckstines baritone voice). The vocals on this song give way to a hauntingly clandestine mute trumpet solo, a la Miles Davis. The result is an ultimately 'cool' laidback idyllic journey which carries you away from all your troubles! The song "Just a Man" is very similar in it's effect. This song is strongly gospel inflected with some stunning harmonies.
This c.d has the best ever version of this song.(I realise that George Benson later covered the song as did Randy Crawford.) The other track that blew me away was the stunning version of "If I Ever Lose This Heaven"...Minnie Riperton was at her best on this track. (her untimely death still leaves a huge void in the music world ). The arrangements ,again, are wonderful especially on the Benny Golson song "Along came Betty"
All in all this c.d . has everything on it, from low down 'n' dirty funk( as on "Boogie Joe, The Grinder") to cool soulful jazz and even when I play it today I find it still hasn't lost any of its excitement or feeling from 1974!
It is , however, a very short recording but as they say, good things do come in small packages!

5 out of 5 stars Fan Forever!.......2002-05-24

I had this 'album' years ago during college. I have always been a 'Q' fan, and always will be. This particular selection is Q at his best. The selections show his range of talent and breadth of expressions, from quiet and melodic(Everyting Must Change), to thumping and erotic(Body Heat). I highly recommend this for people that may be new to Quincy and want to know why Quincy Jones is so revered in the music world.

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2006-08-03

This CD is very relaxing and it runs long. I'm not experienced in these types of CD's, but enjoy this one the best of the ones I've purchased so far.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent background music for bodywork.......2006-03-01

It has been very difficult for me, for many years, to find good albums for using during a bodywork session. Nine out of every ten that I try are peaceful and undemanding, for all but one or two places on the recording. The one or two places make that
album fail the test. I can't have the client relaxing into parasympathetic mode, and then an abrupt change in the pace or volume of the music demands their attention. That nullifies the previous fifteen minutes of work.
Llewellyn's music on this recording is beautiful, when you put your attention on it, but provides a pleasant background sound if you choose to not consciously attend to it. This work rivals the recordings of Liquid Mind, in its suitablity for a tranquil massage therapy session.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!.......2004-04-07

I think this is the most relaxing CD in the universe! I purchased this CD about 3 months ago and I listen to it virtually every single day. I use it to either put me into a state of deep relaxation or to put me to sleep at night (or both). I play it when I'm stuck in rush hour traffic and it helps me to remain calm and mellow. I also play it on my way to see the massage therapist in order to prepare my mind and spirit to fully receive a relaxing massage. I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Healing Massage (Lewellen Series).......2002-12-26

A very relaxing CD.This will get anyone in a mood for therapy treatments or just to relax too.The music blends together so well it's hard to tell when one selection ends and the next begins. I would highly recommend this to all healers.
