Product Description
Sometimes we think about the album like this: landing softly in a new town, things that make you sad but are so beautiful you bring them out again anyway, the part where you kick the trashcan just because you remembered something that pissed you off, the moonlit night where you were far from the city and the stars and the orange and the snow swirled together, the relentless highway drive that you dont remember because you were listening to the radio really loud.Customer Reviews:
Now I Remember Why I Love Albums.......2005-09-29
My music-love-life ebbs and flows. At times, it all seems so silly, you know, like if you listen to the wrong radio station for more than a half-hour, you start to wonder why you bother at all. During those times, I try to look back on my past. I try to remember what it was that could make me just sit and listen to the same record over and over.
Sometimes, it seems like those records are destined to be just a thing of the past. Is there any heart in modern popular music at all? Or is it all fashion?
But then I heard Watertown by this little band from San Francisco and all hope returned to me.
What a great collection of earnest beautiful songs! This is an album. Sure, it's full of great individual songs, but the CD flows like a record, like it's all one thing.
It's starts off smoothly with the enchanting "Synaptic Gap". It's hypnotising and it's setting you up for the trip that's in store for you. From the popfest "Instaglo" through the wrenching "Birthday" passed the nolstalgic high-point "Watertown" and on and on. These songs are perfect for a car-ride or for just lying back and listening through a big set of orange headphones. The music wraps around you like a blanket.
This album feels like home to me.
Lovers of well-written honest catchy indie-poppy-rocky quality music should check this out. Recommended for fans of Trembling Blue Stars, The Breeders, Fountains of Wayne, Liz Phair, School for the Dead, The Lucksmiths, Aimee Mann, Belle and Sebastian, The Feelies, and even The Cars.

Album Description
The Whistler picks up where previous Fairburn Royals' records left off, with more indie pop stylings, albeit with a more laid-back, alt-country feel. As with the earlier records, drummer Jason Eshelman (who also plays with Athens band The Eskimos) doubled as engineer, and the record was recorded at Eshelman's Sonic Research Facility in Athens. The band's growth as musicians is exhibited by the fact that traditional guitar-bass-percussion assignments were juggled during the course of the record.Guest appearances include Patrick Doyle on saxophone and trumpet, and Eskimos guitarist/vocalist Dave Weiglein adds guitar to a track on the record.

Customer Reviews:
Garth's older half-sister shares family talent.......2004-03-21
To my knowledge, this is only album ever released by Betsy. Apparently, it was more readily available in Europe in the mid-nineties than it was in America. Betsy always wanted to be judged on her own merits and not achieve fame because of her half-brother. It certainly worked with me - I don't ever remember hearing about any Garth connection and I might never have known if I hadn't surfed the net looking for information about the album.
Betsy's music has some similarities with Garth's, being rooted in country with rock influences, but there are differences too - Betsy's music has a bluesy edge that ideally suits her slightly bluesy voice. This album blends country, blues and soft rock in a most appealing way, though ultimately country is the major influence. The closing track is a duet with her mother (This house), a semi-autobiographical song.
Some of you already know another fact about Betsy's lifestyle that I only discovered when researching for this review. Unlike (say) k d lang, who makes it obvious what she is, neither the cover picture nor the music makes it obvious that Betsy is gay.
This will appeal to contemporary country fans who appreciate a rock edge to their music. Try forgetting that this is the otherwise-obscure half-sister of a megastar - judge Betsy's music on its own merits. And if you do, you'll discover how great it is.
