4 out of 5 stars Don't know why he didn't make it big.......2004-05-06

This is an extrordinary recording. To be honest, he has written many of George Strait's hits, so some of these songs look familiar.

The sound on this cd is much like that of George Strait also, especially from his #7 album.

Boone had a very rich baritone voice, without much range, and also a desire to record classic sounding honky tonk music. He had all the ingredients, but for some reason he didn't catch on.

When you listen to this cd, you can imagine that in some parallel universe, he is the huge star, and George Strait is the one whose cd's are all out of print and hard to find.

To summarize, I wouldn't call Boone a George Strait wannabe, as he has his own style, but his music sounds almost identical.

Also, don't let Boone's later day "line dance" fettish give you the wrong idea. The music here is all classic sounding honky tonk. And yes, Wine Me Up, is the same song Faron recorded in the 1960's.
