Need more evidence of the record industry's obsession with youth? Consider that budding Welsh diva Charlotte Church was a ripe, old 16 when this, her first greatest-hits anthology was released. Spanning her first four releases, as well as some outside collaborations and unreleased material, this 18-track collection underscores the soprano's seemingly boundless potential--as well as some potential career obstacles ahead. Her crystalline, still-maturing voice is best showcased on classically oriented works like Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu," Franck's "Panis Angelicus," and her now-ubiquitous rendering of Delibes' "Flower Duet." She also excels on folk traditionals such as "She Moved Through the Fair" and "My Langan Love." But overwrought productions like the already-dated "Dream a Dream" and "Habanera," a faux-flamenco take on Bizet, nearly get the best of her. Still, her promising duet with fellow young phenom Josh Groban on "The Prayer" and her mature, dreamy reading of A Beautiful Mind's "All Love Can Be," as well as strong performances on the previously unreleased "It's the Heart That Matters Most" and "Bridge over Troubled Waters," are ample evidence of her potential for rewarding pop crossover--if she doesn't retire by 21. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
A Beautiful, Relaxing Project.......2007-06-15
I love her rendition of "Amazing Grace". She also did good on covering "Bridge Over Troubled Water", though I was disappointed she didn't try the high note on the verses as Garfunkel did. My favorite on the project was "It's the Heart That Matters Most".
If I want some beautiful sounding music to relax to while I'm working, this would be a very good project for that.
It just cannot be the end for Charlotte's classical career! :(.......2006-08-20
Her beginning pieces (Pie Jesu, My Lagan Love, In Trutina, Panis Angelicus, and Amazing Grace) were sung at the beginning of her classical career, and you can hear her flat vowels and shaky low notes. You can also hear it in "She Moved Thru the Fair". It's really annoying!
La Pastorella is a beautiful song to sing, and Church masters it beautifully! Just Wave Hello - the Ford Anthem, is also a beautiful piece, with amazing work from the orchestra.
Ave Maria is a complete annoyance! Church lays on the high notes too much, putting too much emphasis on them, and it's an annoyance! Her vowels are also flat on the high notes - I just hate it!
Dream a Dream is a very nice piece, leaning more towards the pop scene. Church still seems to make it work, and I would listen to it all day!
The Flower Duet is a beautiful song, but Church's vocals are strained, which makes it hard to listen to with a smile on your face! It's still beautiful!
The Prayer (w/ Josh Groban) is a very nice piece, originally sung by Celine Dion. She's still a little bit flat here!
All That Love can Be is sung beautifully, completely smooth and connected. The vocals are flawless and have a mezmerizing effect.
It's the Heart that Knows is a pop piece that Church sings with strong vocals. It's just showing us that she's ending her career as a classical superstar!
Tantum Ergo, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Sancta Maria, are all beautiful pieces!
I am a Charlotte Chruch fan, no doubt, but I really didn't like this album! I still wish that she would stay with opera, but I guess dreams don't come true! I wouldn't advise you to buy this CD - but as long as you have Voice of an Angel, Charlotte Church (the Self Titled Album) and Enchantment, there's no need for this CD!
Sorry Charlotte!
Charlotte Church.......2006-07-29
Somewhat decent but still mediocre.......2006-06-07
Charlotte's voice is very well trained - maybe too trained. From a very young age she's been hitting the same notes as Sarah Brightman. But I feel that Charlotte's over-worked and not to mention overdone voice has been declining tremendously.
But I guess none of this really matters now because I haven't heard her do anything classical for a while. If you want to listen to Charlotte now, go find the song 'Crazy Chick.'
If you want to listen to other angel voiced sopranos, I'd go with Sarah Brightman or Renee' Fleming.

Gutsy and energetic; a singer's singer all the way.......2007-01-26
This Jennifer Rush's rock CD.......2003-11-05
in the 80's. This CD rocks. This was the second release.
She has a duet with Elton John "Flames of Paradise" and this
song is explosive. Elton John like her voice so much he asked
if he could do a duet with her-and this rocks. I am telling
you this song is awesome-Elton John can barely keep up with
her-she is just so powerful on the song. It is a great dance
song--one of the best ever recorded. The rest of the CD is more
rock sounding than the rest of Jennifer Rush's CD's but this
CD is rocking
Power keyboard and rock ballads from one mighty voice!.......2003-10-31
The intense keyboards and crunchy rock guitars, the latter done here by Bon Jovi's Ritchie Sambora demonstrate that sound in "I Come Undone" which has the intensity of Cutting Crew's "I Just Died In Your Arms." Ellen Shipley, well known for her association with Belinda Carlisle's solo albums, wrote and did backing vocals for here.
Desmond Child produced and co-wrote "Down To You" call it a power keyboard ballad, highlighted by sheets of synths over which Jen's voice rises in its glory.
Harold Faltermeyer produced the title track which is symphonic keyboards and guitar that's an emotional anthem. "Look over your shoulder and then leave it behind/put all the heartbreak away/we'll start all over one step at a time/don't let the past take my place" she declares. Notable personnel: Dan Huff's guitar and Siedah Garrett's backing vocals. The most powerful track on this album, and one that leaves me short of breath.
Faltermeyer's hands are also on "Search the Sky", which is what one does when asking why love sometimes lies, looking for a reason why. Again, her voice really soars here.
"Stronghold" is another power keyboard ballad, this time an Andy Goldmark/Bruce Roberts production. She keeps the power going on in the chorus when she affirms "this time I won't let go."
"Walking talking like a flame, baby..." Yes, that upbeat song that barely cracked the Top 40, "Flames Of Paradise" with its skippy keyboards and drums, brassy synths that come in during the chorus. A rare gem that was overlooked, but then again, Elton wasn't scoring the same success in the mid-80s that he was in the 70's. This merited a Top Ten charting at the very least, as Elton and Jennifer make a great duo.
The Harold Faltermeyer-penned "Love Of A Stranger" is a slower keyboard affair that really highlights Rush's voice to an operatic splendour, with haunting backing vocals to match, including that of Rush and Siedah Garrett, who helped Michael Jackson take his "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" to #1. Another beware of love song, because "love will hold your heart for ransome here/'til it's gone and leaves you all alone." Dan Huff's fiery guitar helps her here as it did Tiffany.
Desmond Child loaned his pen and backing vocals on "Heart Wars", which from the get-go compares two people as fighting nations, asking "is this the state of all human relations/words are like weapons, take aim and fire/love loses reason in the name of reason." It calls for sunshine instead of thunder, but given the Cold War context, this song does have a subliminal political agenda. A standout cut.
A loyal "Sidekick" is what Jennifer offers to be when a man is blindingly seduced by a "flash and trash" girl in snakeskin leather, that someone to catch him when he falls and when the snakeskin girl stalls.
It's songs like this that made me wish Michael Bolton stuck to songwriting instead of singing like he normally drinks a can of Drano after every meal. "Call My Name" is a winning ballad, where Rush's operatic timbre comes in. The keyboards and backing vocals become symphonic and operatic themselves towards the end. The production of Gus Dudgeon, best known for producing Elton John's crucial 70's albums, comes through in spades.
After hearing this, I went after her Passion album, which I enjoyed immensely, but that's another review away. As for this album, it's a strong rocking powerhouse of emotional power ballads and a woman who's got a very powerful voice whose potency I can only take a little at a time.
Wonderful Album by JENNIFER RUSH, an underappreciated artist.......2001-09-19
what a voice.......2001-07-28
The voice: there is nothing in today's market that can compare.
The style: a stylish voice, not just delivering but interpreting the songs.
Whatever happened to here

Two Classic Multi-million Selling Albums from the Canadian Singing Queen!Customer Reviews:
The comeback begins..........2003-10-09
Two interesting eighties albums.......2003-03-16
The other number one was Just another woman is love - it is the kind of song I expect from Anne, and she sings it brilliantly. There were other singles from the album, but they didn't do much, which was a pity as this is a great album full of wonderful songs.
The second album, Heart over mind from 1984, makes a more conscious effort to win over pop fans, but ultimately it is still Anne's singing that counts. The two big hits here were Time don't run out on me and a duet with Dave Loggins, Nobody loves me like you do. Of the other songs, I first heard Our love on an album by Elkie Brooks, but I have no idea who recorded the song first. It is the last track and as such it makes a great way to end another excellent twofer in this long series.

One to please Tammy's fans.......2004-03-20
Overall, Tammy is mellower and more reflective than in the seventies but still sounding as good as ever. Gone are the songs about standing by - or standing up to - her man, that generated so much interest early in her career. Also gone are the songs about children. Of course, anybody who followed Tammy's career knows that these songs had already become a rarity.
Bob Montgomery produced this album. A few years earlier, he was Janie Fricke's producer on a couple of albums. One of the songs that Janie recorded with Bob, Where's the fire, is covered by Tammy here. Other highlights here include Let's call it a day today, Suddenly single and What goes with blue, but there are many wonderful songs here.
This album will certainly appeal to Tammy's committed fans though the absence of any famous or controversial songs may limit interest to others. That is a pity because there are many fine songs here that might have been hits in different circumstances - if Tammy's music had been fashionable, or if somebody else had recorded them.
